How often do you visit SD boards?

Do many of you work where you have the computer on most of the time, or have one on at home alot? So many of you regulars post so frequently, I have to think it takes up a lot of time! I don’t get the impression this is a community of folks who spends days on end hunched in front of a monitor.

I usually go on in the mornings; read the local cyber-paper, read & answer email & visit here, in between running the dogs & doing various before-work chores. But the rest of the time I’m generally working or out doing stuff. i’ll often go days without turning on the computer - though then I get antsy & wonder who’s emailed me!

So; how often & when do y’all get here?

I am an underworked administrative assistant.

Here is my work schedule:
7:00 - Arrive at work
7:00 - 7:15 - Answer pertinent Emails
7:15 - 11:00 - Surf the Boards
11:00 - 12:00 - Lunch
12:00 - 12:15 - Run out for cookies for a meeting.
12:15 - 3:30 - Surf the Boards
3:30 - Leave.

Ok, not really, but close. I generally have Explorer open to SDMB while I’m doing other stuff.

Then I usually kill time at home in the afternoon here as well.

On the weekends, I’m usually busy, but if I am home, I generally take a peek here in the morning, and check back from time to time.

So the short answer to your title thread is: Constantly.

Although I have unfettered 'net access at work, I don’t have any screwing around time so I rarely visit from the office. I do sometimes drop by during lunch. At home, if I’m not surfing somewhere else, I tend to leave the SDMB up and check it perioodically. I spend way too much time here.

I’m here for hours during the day. Sad, isn’t it? Usually my homework gets neglected during this time. Ah, gotta love senioritis…

What gets me is that there are people who have thousands of posts more than me and they registered more than a year after me! Wow!

I usually go on for a while after classes are over. For how long depends on the amount of homework. Finals are over in less than a week, so I imagine I’ll be here a lot, as I have a 10 month break before I go back.

Watch my post count soar.

Visit? You mean I’m allowed to leave?

I usually log on a couple of times throughout the day just to catch up on the new stuff. But I’m not an addict or anything. I can quit anytime. Really.

I post a bit from work, and I have a cable modem at home, so I’m check in frequently whenever I am home and not particularly busy.

Let’s just say a lot an leave it at that, shan’t we?

[sub]well, mom, at least I’m not going to the frats and drinking…[/sub]

Every day I work…which is every freekin’ day lately.

Short staffed, people quiting, others on vacation.

18 hour of programming 7 days aweek. There’s me and two others.
Bleh

I try to check in once a day. If I have time after work, I will post around 6 pm or so; sometimes if I’m not busy or bored I will check back around 10:30 (unless, of course, ER is on).

What gets me are people who registered in July and have triple my post count. Admittedly, I took a self-imposed hiatus, but still. I am usually on here about an hour to an hour and a half a day (2 hours if I have nothing to do), and I maybe post 4-5 times. Sometimes once if it’s something I really think about. Reading the entire post, thinking about my answer, writing it, previewing it, changing things around a bit, previewing again, then submitting takes a little while.

Go figure.

My job basically consists of me waiting at my desk all day for someone to need my help. Or to answer a phone, grab a fax. Once a week or so I order office supplies. Once a month I do invoices. Every Wednesday I organize the office lunch and order the food for it. Ahhh, the joys of being an Administrative Assistant in a small office. But I digress…

I read a lot more than I post (points to post-count). However, I’m at work from 8am to 5pm, so I check the boards and my two email accounts every 10-15 minutes. Unless I get caught up reading something new and interesting out there on the http://www. I also co-run an IRC Trivia channel. It’s addicting. So, now that I’m really getting sucked into SDMBs I will probably be popping in to check updates at least every 30 minutes throughout the day.

Oh Lordy Lordy don’t I feel pathetic now…

I also read a lot more than I post. When I’m at school and online 24/7, I read the boards constantly throughout the day but only respond to a very few threads. So my post count doesn’t really reflect the amount of time I spend here.

Um . . . so?

I don’t even check the boards every day. Most days I do, but not all.

However, I do post quite a bit. I also have a lot to say.

As for WHEN I’m on . . . when there’s a computer lab open, there’s the possibility I’ll be on. Generally when I’m on AIM I’m also reading the boards.

Don’t worry. I’m only a junior and I think I have senioritis. I never do work anymore. And if I do it’s only for certain classes. Most of my work time goes to the SDMB. I swear, these boards are like an addiction.

But in answer to the OP, I’m on every day, at least 2 or three times.

::::::::::Anti hunched over and squinting at her monitor:::::

We must be giving you the WRONG impression somehow!

A few hours every day, well it’s just open in the background and if no one is on-line to talk to then I read the boards, I don’t really post much but I learn a lot. My friends think I’m incredibly odd for it but shrug oh well, I got three of them to join so I must not be too bad. growls At least that was before AOL reaffirmed it’s stupidity, my sister thinks I’m a horrible person so she put parental controls on my account, mature teen. For some reason AOL didn’t block the straight dope site but they blocked the message boards. Evil AOL! I love MSN now.

Kitty

I leave every so often. Weekends and nights, mostly.

LIKE an addiction?

As should be obvious from the post counts of . . . oh, I don’t know, handy, Coldfire, or . . . ME, this board IS an addiction.

When I first started my job in August, I didn’t come here. But now that I can do my job (claims administration) with my eyes closed I open up a window and it stays open all day. My co-workers have requiered me to come to the boards at least 3 times a day in order to lower my production.

At home, my husband plops down in front of the T.V. the minute he walks into the door and falls asleep while watching through his eyelids. Then he accuses me of being addicted to the internet just because I plop down in front of my computer instead. At least I turn off the computer when I get sleepy.

My daily schedule changes vastly from day to day, so some days I won’t be on at all and other days I’ll be on here for hours at a time. But usually I end up checking the board for at least a few hours on mondays, wednesdays and thursdays, and sundays.
