How was Jamiroquai's "Virtual Insanity" video done?

gex,

sorry if I sounded like I was belittling him I was mainly trying to say that OpalCat’s ignorance of the band wasn’t surprising. How about he had one big hit on MTV (the video this thread is about) but he may be popular in other venues as far as I know.

Note my location the only non country music (country music shudder) I have easy access to is through MTV which I don’t even watch anymore.

Unfortunately, Jay Kay has the same name as the director of Tranquility Bay.

Sound unheard. In my case, Steely Dan has this distinction.

That’s one of my favorite videos as well. I was rather disillusioned by the conveyor belt-bit at the ensuing MTV awards.

gex gex is from Australia. At least Jamiroquai’s last three albums – “Travelling Without Moving”, “Synkronised” and “A Funk Odyssey” – were big in this country (“The Return of the Space Cowboy” is not unknown either).

I’d hazard a guess that Jamiroquai also remains extremely well-known in the UK.

Another one of the COOLEST videos ever made, from a sadly overlooked album, is “Lucas with the Lid Off,” by Lucas, but I can’t find a clip of it anywhere. Can anybody else track one down?

my favourite jamiroquai video is the one where he gets headbutted by a paparazzi photographer

As Narrad said, I’m from Australia. As you say, the ocean between us could explain the differences in perspective. (Hope I didn’t sound too snotty. I didn’t mean to.)

What was the big hit? Virtual Insanity?

Yeah… I knew that, but it’s one of those things that easily slips yr mind. Jay Kay is such a dominating presence to begin with, and I’d always got the impression that he had a very much Trent Reznor in Nine Inch Nails position in the band.

Anyone know if this is this true, or do the other band members have more of an active role?

Lucas With the Lid Off

I remember hearing that this video was filmed in one continuous shot. I can only imagine how much running around that guy had to do. Great video.

“Lucas with the Lid Off” was directed by Michel Gondry, the guy who alternates Charlie Kauffman scripts with Spike Jonze; and it was obviously an influence on “Being John Malkovich.”
