Like I said in the subject line… and what’s with all the bugs? And blood? And birds
If this is the video that I’m thinking of - The set was on casters, as was the furniture. they had bolts going through the walls to hold (or not hold) the furniture in place, and a large group of grips (crew members) pushing the set back and forth around the soundstage.
oh, and the camera was attached to the set, so it would move with it.
I think the video was about the dangers of genetic testing/altering.
I remember seeing the Pop-Up Video for it. As I recall, the blood was originally supposed to be like “The Shining” and come out of elevator doors in the back, but it malfunctioned and just kind of dribbled out.
The camera was attached to the walls, which were NOT attached to the floor. So as the floor moved around (or the walls, I forget which) the other appeared stationary. Similar technique was used in Royal Wedding to show Fred Astaire dancing on the ceiling: camera affixed to set as it rotated.
I saw an interview with JK. IIRC, the floor stood still while the set was shunted around (as has been said). The camera was on a wall/false wall. Great vid.
Just wanted to add that the floor was digitally “cleaned up” to remove footprints and scuff marks from the grips moving the set around.
not only have I never heard of this video, I have never heard of “Jamiroquai” either. I feel so out of touch
Well, Opal, it was sometime way back in the 90s…
Is this, perchance, the same technique that was used in Lionel Riichie’s Dancing on the Ceiling?
OpalCat,
if I remember correctly Jamiroquai was a mid 90s artist that had one real hit and a few minor ones so you’re hardly out of touch this is just a late question.
As for the meaning of the video/song it was about the surface of earth becoming uninhabitable (I don’t remember why. Environmental catastrophe maybe?) and we’re all forced underground to live while going insane.
One joke I heard was “‘Jamiroquai’ is French for ‘sounds like Stevie Wonder’.”
I can’t remember how many hits he had, but he was/is still a fairly popular album artist. His most recent album came out in 2001 and was pretty big.
I don’t think it’s reasonable to paint him as a minor artist.
gex, the common mistake of referring to Jamiroquai as ‘him’, is just that, a mistake. It’s a band. The lead singer is called J K.
gex - your perspective may be for outside the U.S. - I can’t remember where you hail from.
Within the U.S., it is a matter of opinion, but Darkhold’s POV is reasonable. They had the one hit and aren’t really on the radar anymore…
And, of course, that.sound.again is right about band vs. singer…
Thank you, gex gex. Jamiroquai is one of my favorite bands. I’ll buy a Jamiroquai CD without even hearing one track from it first (say, what is the auditory equivalent of sight unseen, anyway?). There is no other band that gets that distinction.
Hmm, I just read that last post of mine again. It was composed quickly and I realize now it might sound a bit harsh or condescending.
I’d just like to assure you that it wasn’t intended that way. I just commented on a minor mistake in a post I otherwise agree with.
Sorry about that.

I forgot how cool that video was.
Y’know, I hate most music of that type and I still love Jamiroquai. It’s pretty damn good stuff.
