Howdy Y’all! Home from mom’s. Ok, been home a while but I had a nap, plus doin’ some laundry. Also, I stopped off at the sto’ and bought some cubed steak. I’m makin’ dindin tonight. Cubed steak and gravy, butterbeans, squash, mashed N.O.T. and biscuits. Oh, and peach cobbler. NUM!!! It’s coolish and rainy and dreary out so I thought a big ol’ southern style home cooked supper would be good.
Hi Drae! How’s life in the bell tower?
Great op BooFae. We ought to draft you for MMP ops more often. I’ve never been to New Yawk City and I’m a lot closer to it than you.
BBBobbio admit it, you loved it!
Ok, off to check out some other stuff and then start dindin.
Right. TOmorrow’s my birthday, and I am going out for dinner without the kidlet. Mezes, El Sol, Allen’s, Melanie’s Bistro, or a recommendation from Muppet?
Goodness… is it October already, LiLi? I’d totally lost track of time. Happy early birthday!
El Sol is good, but they don’t call it El Slow for nothing. Definitely better to go without Gnat than with, since at least there’s no fidgety toddler to worry about during the interminable wait for your food. Plus it’s really really really good. Going by what they say on Chow, looks like waiting an hour for your food is pretty much par for the course.
Mezes or Melanie’s Bistro are both good choices as a backup, assuming you don’t want to leave Gnat with the sitter for too long. I’d skip Allen’s, though, as their appeal is mostly in their three-chalkboard-long beer list, which is no fun when you can’t drink… the food is okay, but not all that special and rather pricey for what it is.
Now, another place I might suggest is Mambo Lounge, which on Danforth right by Broadview. They do really really good Cuban-style tapas, and they’re on par with all the other places you mentioned. I’ve been there about 4-5 times now, and the service is great. Plus the owner might even do something special if you mention it’s your birthday, assuming he’s there.
gotti, my finger is throbbing with empathy pains. I’ve never sliced anything off, though I have given myself a few nasty cuts over the years with sharp knives… still, a dull knife is far more dangerous.
Looks like you had a nice adventure in the Big Apple, BooFae! But you should have had at least one photo fo you. For all we know, someone else took your camera and sent you some pics…
**Bobbio **- eeeewwwwww! Did you burn your britches after your little brush with, um, brushes??
**gotti **- owie! Your description gave me the heebie-jeebies!
I ended up working an hour over today, and tomorrow, I’m scheduled to be in a working meeting from 8-5:30. But it’s OK - they’re bringing in pizza so we don’t have to break for lunch… No idea what Weds and Thurs will hold, but the project is due on Friday. I’d rather put in the extra hours now than have to come in over the weekend to play catch-up.
Daughter is on her way home. I really need to think up something for supper. Back laterz…
'Ullo, all. Nice pics of NYC, BooFae. I never really thought about it, but I think we tend to have bars inside restaurants anymore. Except for the neighborhood taverns.
The flip side of this is when I’m in London, I never know if I can just go in to a pub and eat something (I’m not much of a drinker).
Am home and already in jammies. Back at it tomorrow (I’m working 6 out of 7)
I think the Vicodin addict was just nasty. And probably trying to get you to give some in exchange for godknowswhat in the back of an ambulance. <shudders>
I read the rest, but my brain doesn’t work so well. Sorry to hear about the bad back–that sounds horrible!
I’ve been trying to stay upright all day and get up and hobble around in hopes of loosening whatever is jacked up in my back. I’m still having problems (I’m walking like a little old lady) and bending and stooping are still painful, but it’s not as bad as it was yesterday and earlier today.
I can walk with a little more ease and my back seems to have stopped having spasms, so I guess that’s a good thing.
My group doesn’t have to report for jury duty tomorrow, so I’ll be toddling off to work. I’ll need to ask if I can leave early so I can get the title tranfer on my son’s car taken care of. I couldn’t do it today with my back all jacked up and Mr. Taters didn’t get home until nearly 5:00 pm.
Before I can go to the DOL, I’ll have to go back to the emissions place to show them we bought a new gas cap and have them sign off on that portion of the emissions test. Then, I can finally go to the DOL, show them we spent more than 150 bucks to diagnose the problem and transfer title and get tabs.
I first read it in a Dan’l Boone accent “Huntin’ for BAR!”
Then my brain caught up, and I realized it was A bar. But, “Transatlantic” then morphed into Transvestite. I got a quick mental picture of Dan’l Boone in a coonskin cap wandering into a tranvestite bar in New York.
I’m kind of depressed that my brain didn’t keep following to see what resulted - hope he had fun!
I will not go into what my day was like - Dan’l Boone is WAY more fun an image.
[QUOTE=dogbutlergott, So how is Long Pig with basil, anyways?[/QUOTE]
It was supposed to be caprese salad. (Or at least our particular perversion of caprese designed to feed 120 people - it’s not the classic composed variety.)
Don’t worry… I chucked everything that was on the cutting board into the trash. The salad was a little light on basil, but it was at least still vegetarian and free of any animal flesh.
Fetch, maybe you should be down for the next MMP so you can expand on that fantastic image. But don’t forget we’ll need an extra large order of brainbleach first.
I dont think we found any real transvestite bars but one cocktail bar we went into was a bit suspect. Mostly it seems that bars don’t advertise themselves very well and some of 'em don’t actually look like bars so it’s hard to tell. Never mind, it was a fun trip all the same.
I expect 'im indoors will be thinking about another holiday sometime soon, probably Jan/Feb so we’ll have to see what Virgin are giving away in their next seat sale. Who knows where we might end up?
Taters, sorry to hear about daughter’s car, it’s a real pain when you get written off. I’ve totalled a few cars in my time and it’s a nuisance having to argue about value etc and wait for the money to appear, but the bonus is the fun of car shopping. If you like that sort of thing. I have my eye on an upgrade for my current vehicle which is now 6yrs old but tempting as it is, I am not sure I can justify it.
rosie, I’m sure 'im indoors will be flattered!
LiLi, I think he took a couple of pics of me, I don’t photograph well so I don’t really like being in front of the camera at all. I’ll have to see how long it takes for him to download his pics, knowing how excited he gets about the latest goings on in WoSW, it could be a long wait.
