Hunting for a Bar - A Transatlantic MMP

Why do I find it harder to go to class on days when I only have one hour than when I have several? It’s like “dude! for one hour of class, I have to get dressed up? really? for one lousy hour? can’t I go in house clothes?”

Happy Birthday LiLi!

And specially a happy year.

Happy Birthday, Li-Li!

I’m just sitting here trying to get motivated. I only have one lunch today and then after I’m done with that I get to continue my quest for a 4 inch square, 1/8 inch thick piece of steel to repair my car door latch. I’ve only found one place to provide this yet and their price was $66! TVMan suggested a place in his area, so I guess I’ll call them in a couple hours.

Nope, sorry. Truly abyssmal timing. I’m switching jobs AND having surgery next week. I’m planning on being completely incoherant.

Mahna Mahna, you are still up because you kept ME up. Yup, you did. I saw your name in a thread somewhere, and got the Muppet tune stuck as an earworm all night long. Thanks.

Blurf.

Happy Birthday, LiLi!!!

I was gonna post the exact same thing, dammit.

ETA: Gotti, VWife took off the tip of a finger this past spring with a rotary cutter. Your new flat spot is going to be tender and sensitive for quite a while.

I really need to buckle down and concentrate this afternoon and accomplish one major thing. However I am having an “Ooo look shiny!” kind of afternoon and have wasted an hour after lunch already!

Got my flu jab this morning and my arm hurts now…:frowning:

On the plus side it is 5 weeks 3 days til I see hubby again!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY LI LI!

Up, caffeinated somewhat, already at work. It’s not Firday yet, is it?! Bah!

Hugs and then gentle hugs to TatersDaughter and Gotti, with a special ouchie in there for Gotti

Is next week Canadian Thanksgiving? I know that Monday is Columbus day here (woo hoo, three day weekend coming up! LOL). I am so ready for turkey and stuffing, btw … and pumpkin pie too! Not that I’m Canadian (or that there’s anything wrong with it … :p); I’m just thinking of going out and getting a turkey, maybe, if the price isn’t too high. Just cause I can’t wait until the end of November here.

HIPPO BIRDIE, LILI!!!

Score! (could be worse, I have to look at my username all the time, which usually results in humming Muppet songs for weeks at a time)

It was a rather hectic morning. The Boy did something weird to the alarms (again… it’s become a rather bad habit of his) and I woke up at 7:45 in a panic when my subconscious realised it was much too bright to be pre-7am like it ought to be. If The Boy keeps up this new habit of his, I’m going to smother him with a pillow while he sleeps… it’s bad enough he can stay in bed much later than me because he works in the arts, and no one expects creative types to get to work before 10am. Grrrr.

ETA: tarra, we’re celebrating Canadian turkey day this weekend. Don’t think we’ll be doing turkey or pumpkin pie this year, though I’ll probably make a batch of pumpkin focacciato bring to the in-laws.

Turns out I didn’t have class today, but at least I did remember to check my email, so I got the message.

Tomorrow we have four hours of class, then we have to go downtown for a seminar in another university, then after the seminar and also downtown a huge consulting firm is holding a job fair. I plan on having lunch downtown and dropping by the job fair. Not planning to ask them for a job (after 8 years as a consultant, I don’t think I wanna sign up as a junior), but it’s always good to circulate the CV, keeps it well-aired.

Happy Birthday, LiLi!

A good college friend called Sunday night to tell us that he and his wife are expecting a baby in April. Yay! They’re the first of our close friends - either KT’s or mine - to have a baby. So it’s exciting. Even if they’re half a continent away. I think I’ll have to make a trip home in May or June to see the new baby.

**FCM **- here’s a quick dinner idea. (OK so it’s too late for last night’s dinner, but it might come in handy sometime.) By the way, I’m shamelessly stealing this from someone’s blog. But I don’t know if she’d want me to link y’all over to her blog so I’ll just steal it.

Super Speedy Supper Soup
2 cans chicken broth (or 1-32 oz box)
1/2 bag (30 oz) frozen hash browns (the kind that are just shredded potatoes, no butter, oil, or other additives) or 1-16 oz bag
1 can creamed corn
1 bag frozen, mixed veggies
Kielbasa (just use as much as you want… I had maybe 3/4 lb), chopped into bite-sized pieces
salt and pepper to taste

Bring chicken broth to a boil in a large pot. Add potatoes and corn. Boil for 5-10 min or until the potatoes are soft. If you want it thicker, take a stick blender and blend up some of the potatoes so the starch thickens it. Or leave it as it is. It’s tasty either way.

Add in the frozen veggies and kielbasa and bring to a boil. Taste and adjust salt and pepper as necessary. I liked it better with a lot of fresh-ground pepper, but that’s just me. Serve!

Takes less than 20 min from start to finish with no prep work other than cutting up the kielbasa. And it’s not too unhealthy with all those veggies. Use less sausage to make it lower in fat. And low-sodium broth so it’s not too salty. Good flavor. I’m keeping this recipe around for quick weeknight dinners.

Happy Birthday, LiLi!!

I stayed home today with a migraine. Or at least, a really bad headache. I’m feeling much better after judicious application of sleep. And since tomorrow’s my regular furlough day (we’ve been cut back to four days a week to save on paying us), I’ve got a new little weekend, right here in the middle of the week.

I am trying resolutely not to think about gotti’s finger because it squicks me out, but I hope it heals fast and painlessly. And I also hope it’s not your elevator button finger. I sprained my EBF real bad once, and then always forgot it was sprained until I spent my elevator ride to the office clutching my hand and whimpering.

Nava, when I was in college, I had Thursdays off … except for ONE class at 11:00. I totally failed that class because I didn’t show up often enough.

Happy LiLi Day!

Drae, I hope that wasn’t too bright for your eyes!

I went out for a team lunch today, paid for by the head of dept across the road from my building. See, I work in Public Health and the rest of the undergraduate teaching team works in Primary Care Clinical Sciences so I’m part of their team, but sort of not. Their head of dept pays for a “thank you” lunch for the team to thank them for the work they do running the exams and stuff, and since I help out a lot with invigilating, I ninja’d my way onto the free lunch. Yum!

Just over two hours out of the office at the pub on a Tuesday, can’t be bad…

I’ve never heard of an EBF before. Never thought of it, despit being in a building with several elevators. But, this is the finger that normally does all of the typing for my right hand. I’m one of those weird half-touch-typists.

Ooh, that’s gonna be rough. Here’s hoping it heals fast.

And, may I just say, on a totally unrelated note, WOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!! My homestead tax rebate came in this morning (I wasn’t expecting it until the end of the month). Of course, it’s all going toward my credit card bill 'cause I’m responsible and stuff, but I am keeping fifty bucks back to do with as I please. Since the advent of my company’s “20% less pay, but 50% more weekend!” policy, I haven’t had much cash to blow on fun. So this is probably all going toward my Halloween costume. Maybe I shall buy that sewing machine!

Hooray! The metal guys gave me the piece of metal for free!!!

We had a team lunch today (the kind that just involves everyone going out together to be sociable, not the kind that involves the company paying for our food) at the mall’s food court. Our old team had 6 people and we could go to a regular sit-down restaurant that we all agreed on and could get served in a reasonable amount of time. The new team has 15 people, which is really too big to just show up at a restaurant without a reservation, and even with a reservation, it takes forever to get served. And you have to get 15 people to agree on where to go. The food court 1) can handle that many people, 2) has lots of cheap alternatives, and 3) has plenty of space for sliding tables together. And for some reason, it’s one of the only places where I can get lots of people to agree to go. I’m the de facto lunch planner, and almost anywhere else I choose, I get 3-5 people to go. If I suggest the food court, I get a dozen easily. Weird. But there’s a local fresh Mexican kind of place there that lots of people like so it’s not like it’s just McD’s and random no-name not-so-good Chinese food.

Now I don’t feel like working any more. Blah.

We only have four people on our team and we’re all hardcore foodies, so it’s pretty easy to organize a team lunch… the only problem is finally settling on a place, because we usually have four or five that everyone’s interested in. The only sad part is that we only have team lunch every couple of months, which isn’t nearly often enough.

Speaking of which, we just did cake for our director’s birthday. It was apple-caramel mousse, and it was AWESOME.

Howdy Y’all! One down and four to go!

Heck, I don’t much like anybody I work with, much less want to actually go to lunch with 'em. Ok, so occasionally I’ll be good and go in on a potluck thingy like I did a couple of weeks ago, but still… all I want to do is go there, do my time and go home.

Dindin tonight is death chicken, steamed broccoli and carrots and rolls. I’m usin’ chicken thighs cause I find that makes the best death chicken. I’ve been cravin’ me some and it’s so easy to make. Matter of fact, it’s cookin’ away as I post.

Yay on the free metal CutiePie!

Yay on the tax rebate Drae!

I need a beerverage.

Later Y’all!

HappyHappy LiLi DayDay!!

Turns out I didn’t have to hang around till 5:30. Apparently whoever sent out the meeting invite isn’t real swift with military time. It was to go till 1530, which as every sailor you know will tell you is 3:30. So yay, I only had to work a little bit later.

I’ve got 3 chickie tits thawing, awaiting the application of Buffalo seasoning. Steak fries and some sort of vegetable matter on the side - should make for a nice supper.

Other than that, I’ve got nothing. Is it Firday yet??

HAPPY BIRTHDAY, LITTLE MAMA LI-LI!!!

Owie, gottie! That just gives me the heebee jeebees! I can’t even stand having my finger poked for a blood test. I’d rather get a horse needle in the arm.

Oh, and glad to see you back, drae!

Ever find out that somebody who works in your very small, shared break room building is a real perv??? Like as in camera-shoe-wearing-peeker-up-young-girl’s-skirts type of perv? That happened here this morning. Guy got arrested on Saturday at the same Target where I bought my sewing machine. Glad I didn’t see him and say hi!
