I had jury duty today and SUR-PRIZE, SUR-PRIZE, SUR-PRIZE (not), I was chosen as juror for a trial. I spent the day going the voire dire, being selected, and then listening to testimony.
Both sides have already rested their cases, so we’ll deliberate tomorrow. After than, I get to report back down to the jury pool room. Tomorrow, there are a lot more cases on the docket, so I won’t be surprised if I’m chosen again. For some reason, I’m always chosen. I don’t know why.
I came home to find my son crashed on his bed, with 25 minutes before he had to be at work. I woke him up, he scrambled to get dressed, and I drove him to work and picked up dinner for me and Mr. Taters. Both the kids are working today, so it’s just us.
I’ll have to pick both the kids up from their respective places of employment around nine or nine-thirty.
I vote for the shrug, too. The wrap looks nice, but I agree that it’ll take lots longer and be harder to finish because you’ll be doing the same thing over and over again. You have to be really motivated to finish something that big.
I’ve missed al. l the big sports events this week. MSU beat UM, Twins beat Tigers. Heard about it all second hand.
This computer is really annoying. I’m almost out of things I know how to do to fix things. Tired of this, so I guess I’ll worry about it tomorrow. I’m afraid I might have to completely wipe out the computer and start over again. That would be no fun.
I just had a moment of :smack: Went to the break room for another cup of WTHU and got the end of the pot, which means I had to make more. Our coffee machine is one of those big, commercial air pump types.
Put in a new filter, and a load of fresh grind. I added the water, then realized I never opened up the pot to catch the new batch. Hot coffee went EVERYWHERE…
 Not only did I have to make coffee yet again, I also got to entertain myself cleaning up my mess.
On the bright side, Vundy, at least you’re awake now.
I did end up deciding on the shrug for my project, and will be doing it in an organic cotton that’s a more reasonable $15/skein… so this way, I won’t feel quite so guilty if it comes out looking like a beginner project that than the nicest shrug that ever did shrug.
I also had a lovely time grabbing some Vietnamese food and gossiping with my girlfriends after our yarn-shopping adventure. I’m ever so lucky to have such lovely and funny and intelligent friends in my life.
Going to go hunt down and kill some toast. I’s hoooongry.
Poor bobbio had an “aw shite” moment. Happens in our breakroom every once in a while. Our machine has a brew button that when pushed downloads an entire pot of coffee. However, when pushed twice, the ASM occurs…and usually the perp disappears.
I am home puttering around doing tidy-up-the-ranch chores. Towels in the wash so bro has fresh ones when he gets here cause I’m nice like that. Vacuuming and swabbing the deck still to be done.
That’s probably good also because the really fuzzy yarns like alpaca (which I loooooooooove, but still) don’t always rip out so well. The fuzz gets wrapped around itself and it can be really hard to pull apart. And the yarn doesn’t look as good afterward because it’s been loosened a bit. (Can you tell I have experience with this?) I do love a nice alpaca scarf though. If you do another project and want to use alpaca - and you should sometime 'cause it’s soooo nice to work with, I would recommend looking for other sources of alpaca. WEBS has decent deals sometimes, and Mama Tigs recommended the folks who sell this. That’s 10 small skeins (of super fine) for $32.
Although the idea of owning my own alpaca also seems like a good one, swampy. I mean they’re just so cute and fuzzy! Who wouldn’t want one in their front yard??
At work, caffeinated…it’s been a bit of an odd duck day so far. Rosie, those are indeed the first words of Fanny Brice in “Funny Girl,” which was on TCM this past weekend - love that movie! And of course Streisand is the best.
I’ve got to make an appt. with the nutritionist and start eating smaller meals more often during the day. To be honest, I know what I’ve got to do, it’s just a matter of buckling down and actually doing it.
gt, if you think you have a virus/malware problem, I can highly recommend this as a starting point! The initial self-help process is laborious, but it does give you all the data you need to then get the Major Geeks to help you if you still have problems!
Hurrah, TGIT!!! Weekend, weekend, weekend. Now if I can only train my daughter to sleep for 12 hours (even 10 would be good) without wetting the bed, my life can be declared a success (for the time being).
In other exciting news, we have booked (and paid) for our flights home to Australia next April! Emirates finally started non-stop flights to Brisbane, so we spend less than 24 hours total getting from here to there. Now I just have to find the right holiday apartment for the last 2 weeks of our holiday - balance of close to beach, close to shopping and close to casino should tick everyone’s boxes!
That’s some awfully pretty yarn, taxi. Unfortunately, I checked on the shipping charges, and even the cheapest option they offer for Canada adds $22 to the total… so I’d be paying $50US for those ten 50g skeins, which isn’t quite as much of a bargain.
Still cheaper than $28Cdn per 100g skein, granted, but there’s another LYS that sells Berocco alpaca/wool blend for $11/100g that I might check out as an alternative once I don’t need classes to go with my wools (they charge $80 for their equivalent to the course I’m taking for free… regardless of the cheaper materials cost, I’m still ahead at my super-expensive fancy-schmancy store for now).
Lunchtime! I will not go to McD’s for greasy food. I will behave myself and get a salad from the caf instead.
Sorry, Muppet, I didn’t think about shipping-to-Canada charges. But yeah, if you get a free class, it’s worth paying what they’re asking for the yarn. Especially if you can use the cotton for this one. Sounds like fun!
The user who sent in a request for a particular retail banking application. We create the ID, and sure enough, they come back saying it doesn’t work.
I send them a link to the people who actually support the application and advise them that there’s more setup they need to do with that group. (My group just provides the password - the other group defines what can be done. It sounds strange, but it’s an intentional dual-control arrangement that keeps the federal bank auditors happy.)
“Huh?”
I send them a link to a detailed set of instructions at the other group’s website. It’s got 27 eight-by-ten color glossy screenshots with circles and arrows and a paragraph next to each one, and it’s really quite simple once you look at it and see that there’s just three things that need to be done. I’ll repeat that part: Three things that need to be done.
The user comes back this morning saying they’ve done one of the things on that list and the ID still doesn’t work.
gotti, don’t you wish that stupidity like this was grounds for revoking their access? Though, from the sounds of it, the stupid is doing a pretty good job of keeping them from logging in without any action on your part… so maybe it’s best to leave things as they are.
Shipping to Canada always costs something absolutely silly. It’s one of the reasons I don’t bother shipping online (and also the reason I did a happy dance when Anthropologie finally got around to opening up a store this side of the border… their Canadian shipping charges for online orders were ludicrous!)
I just got an invitation to a corporate marketing summit (from a vendor) that doesn’t list what city the event is taking place in. The address is Park Avenue so one assumes it’s probably New York, but c’mon. Really? You’re so NY-centric that you don’t consider that there are a whole lotta other cities with Park Avenues?
