Afternoon…I am having a grrr just now. I have been sorting out packs of materials for tutors which need to go out in the mail in the next day or so - they have a training session on Monday so it would be useful to get the materials out to them in advance, no?
In the stationery cupboard there are two boxes of write-on transparencies, and I need to put three into each of the 26 packs I’m sending out. So I pick up the first box, it’s open and partly used so I continue with it and empty it but I’m only halfway through the heap of envelopes. No problem, thinks I, there’s another box. That’s when I discover that someone else has opened the other box and has left four, count 'em, four! transparencies in there. Now I have to find someone to beg, borrow or steal more of them from so I can get the packs finished.
boofae, that is one of my pet peeves! Fer crissake, use up a package before starting a new one. Mr. Anachi is particularly bad about this in the food category. He will leave the last of a loaf of sliced bread and open the new one because it’s “fresher.” Ah, well, if that’s the worst thing he does, I’m a lucky lady.
Today is my Firday. I am taking two days off this week cause my bro is coming on Firday for a visit. He’s only here for real Firday and Saturday and is then off to a work conference on Sunday morning. I’ll do my regular weekend chores tomorrow so we can have fun while he’s here.
The perv hasn’t shown back up to other office but I don’t know if he’s out of jail either. His work mates are awfully quiet though. I’d be surprised if he didn’t get fired.
Speaking of, due to a pretty bad car crash wherein some (as in several seller-size baggies) mary juanna was found in a company vehicle, Mr. Anachi’s boss had all their (survey) field crews drug tested and they had to fire six out of nine employees. That was after they were given the option to walk out the door no questions asked. Instead these bozos were fired when they tested positive. :smack: Real bad cases of Teh Stoopit.
I third (or fourth…whatev) gopher. It’s cute.
I guess I’ve procrastinated long enough from the big ick project I need to get done today.
Morning everybody! I’m up and caffeinating, and in a few minutes I get to go help a friend paint a room in her house. I think she’s going to try to insist on paying me, but I don’t think I’ll let her. I’m only unemployed one day a week, I don’t think I’ve sunk that far yet. Hopefully, I’ll get home in time to do some laundry and take a short nap before Roomie gets home.
I’m going to add my vote for Gopher, by the way. And speaking of, does anybody know a way to actually teach a dog to fetch? Winchester (insert obligatory adorable pic here) just watches the ball go, then stares at me like “Well? Are you gonna go get that, Mama?”
It’s cold and damp outside. And I’m sleepy. And somewhat sniffly. Ugh.
I’m going to go sign up for a knitting class tonight - there are four patterns to choose from, and I’m torn between doing the Portobello Shrug, or the Waffle Wrap, though the latter looks like it might be a little too difficult for a beginner like me. What say the resident knitters?
Are you going to be doing them in the same yarn as in the pictures? 'Cause those are going to be expensive! The shrug looks like it’ll be done faster, which is good because sticking with something, especially in the beginning can be tough. It’s nice to have the positive reinforcement of something finished sooner rather than later. IMHO.
Hope you feel better soon, Rebo!
Did anyone watch the Twins vs Lions game last night? It’s the talk of the office (and, presumably, the Cities) this morning. Even KT and I turned it on for a bit at the end, and we’re not baseball fans. But still, go Twins!
I was leaning towards the shrug for the same reason, taxi. I’ll see if they can recommend a different yarn, mostly because the one they recommend looks like it would be super-warm and I generally prefer a lighter sweater even in the wintertime.
It’ll still be expensive, though, since even their cheaper yarns still run around $18/skein since they only carry really nice yarns (stuff like pima cotton, llama, mohair, merino wools). On the bright side, the classes don’t cost any extra… you only pay for the materials, and they throw the pattern and four hours of instruction for free.
I’m confused 'cause the Vikings played on Monday night (and beat the Packers), the Twins played last night and won in overtime, and the Wild started their season with an overtime win. Hard to keep track of all that winning.
Muppet, can you buy yarn elsewhere to bring to the class? I’ve found alpaca for closer to $11-14/skein. Even at that price, buying 5-7 is expensive. But it’d be better if you could do that and bring the yarn with you. Or find a wool blend or something in the same weight that would be even less expensive. If this is your first project, you’re probably not going to come out with the nicest-looking result. (Not to impugn your abilities, but first projects generally aren’t top rate… mine was decidedly uneven and skewed to one side and rolled around the edges.) I’d rather save the high-quality, really nice yarn for a time when I know I’m going to get a good result in the end. Sorry… I’m not trying to be a downer… those look like great projects, but the cost would scare me off, especially as a first project.
So, if the Detroit football team invited the Detroit baseball team to watch them play the Chicago football team what would we have?
Lions and Tigers and Bears! Oh My!
Howdy Y’all! Home and sippin’ upon a martini. Ol’ y’all know who is goin’ by the Chinese place to swipe General Tso’s supper. We call eatin’ General Tso’s Chicken swipin’ General Tso’s supper. It cracks us up. Deal with it. So There!
I hereby decree that Fetchund be henceforth known as Gopher.
So mote it be.
Hmmmmmm… my martini seems to have just evaporated! Dang south Jawja humidity.
I made a hat back in the spring, which turned out slightly lopsided but otherwise presentable, and a skinny scarf that turned out much more evenly… both were in garter stitch, but I think I’m ready to graduate to a proper knit stitch. Plus there’s always the option to frog it and start again, right?
I don’t have the option to buy materials elsewhere, either. Not for these classes, anyways… and sadly, the more affordable yarn stores either don’t do lessons or only offer really ugly patterns that I wouldn’t be caught dead wearing.
swampus, clearly your glass had a hole in the bottom.
Home. Big pot o’veggie beef soup simmering on the stove. Critters have been fed. **FCD **is napping on his recliner. SIL is at work, Daughter hasn’t called yet, so she’s still at school.
I went to a local alpaca farm recently and their yarn was $20 a skein!! I think it’s because they have to send out to have it spun. The owner was telling me that for them to get their own yarn mill, it’d cost about $100K. Yoiks!!
Good day at work - I was tying up a few loose ends - mostly doing some research, and someone else has to put the big product together. So yay for passing it on! Tonight is definitely a knit-night - I should be able to finish liner #5.
Closing in on my staycation - YAY!! Oh yeah, and I think Gopher is a good Mumper name.
Ol’ y’all know who also had a martini evaporate before his very eyes. It’s just a mystery!
Da cave smells like pork tenderloin due to the fact that I have one in the slow cooker that should be done in the not too distant next half hour. Now all I have to figure out is what to make to go with said pork tenderloin for tomorrow’s dindin. I shall worry about that tomorrow.
After all… tomorrow is another day!
MOOOOOOM buy an couple of alpacas, a spinning wheel and a loom and you can have all the alpaca yarn you want. Plus it’ll give the neighbors sump’n to talk about. It’s all win-win!
Arghhh…my computer is doing something weird. I have it booted up in safe mode with networking at the moment because apparently something decided it didn’t play well with Vista. This would be why I like Macs. Never ever ever had that problems in 4 years of iBook. I’ve only had this laptop for a year.
I’ve already run Ad-Aware and am thinking of running Spybot too before going back another restore point.
Am home from busy, but productive day at library. I successfully led the library committee meeting (meets quarterly. A bunch of docs and I sit around and talk about what we’d like to acquire for the library).
I looked so like a Librarian today: gathered circle skirt in blue, gray and cream, elbow length blue blouse and black sweater vest with black MaryJanes, glasses and hair up. TeeHee.
I read but did not retain. Sorry. Hope the computer cooperates, GT.
I no longer have 2 days of computer class the rest of this week because my RN job has decided to postpone them until January. So, I didn’t need to rearrange my whole life for this week afterall. I hate my nurse job–they’re so disorganized about this kind of thing. Grrrrr. I do still have to go to work as an RN there tomorrow, and I’m the only afternoon RN scheduled. More Grrrrr.
It is very possible, but you with some dogs you have to be pretty darned patient. I doubt the whole world wants to know the details, but I could PM you the details if you’d care for them. It helps if you have done any clicker training… I don’t suppose…?
But in the meantime, I need to break some rules and work off the clock tonight. I’ll be DARNED if I’ll let this project die just because they wouldn’t give me time to finish it!
OMG, Swampy is channeling Scarlett O’Hara! LOL Well, at least she’s a fellow Georgian. “Hello gorgeous!” - and who said that first line?
Ran into a bit of difficulty in the doctor’s office this morning and ended up not making it in to work (because it would have been afternoon when I got in!). So, tomorrow I’ll just have two days worth of work to do. Ah well! Oh, we got some gusty wind this afternoon - had a few power flickers!
