I don't quite get today's "Questionable Content" strip

And Hanners looks positively mortified by Marigold’s poking fun.

Faye looks like k.d. lang with her new hairstyle. I guess that was inevitable.

She’s obv heartbroken when the dude says he just wants to be friends, and when he says he has to go, she huge him even tighter and just starts bawling, as evidenced by the look of pity on his face

Did you actual even bother reading the thread GovernmentMan? Was there any particular reason for answering the OP’s question when it was clearly answered on the first page?

LOL. I’d totally forgotten the subject of the OP, and I was reading post #883 and scratching my head.

Anybody else Google the Gary Phenomenon? :o

OK, I’ll play. The google results didn’t amount to anything. An Urban Dictionary entry that references the QC comic, and a Reddit thread titled “Did anyone else Google ‘Gary Phenomenon’ after reading this?” (“this” being the QC comic). Did I miss something?

Remember that the QC universe is parallel to ours. There was an AI singularity in the recent past, thus the AnthroPCs. So the Gary Phenomenon most likely doesn’t exist except in the comic.

I never thought otherwise.

Nit: the anthroPC’s were around before the AI singularity. Pintsize was quite upset when he wasn’t subsumed into the AI consciousness.

Yeah. I, er, realized this after I googled “The Gary Phenomenon”, thinking I surely would have heard of this!

Again: :o

The Singularity (which…uh…doesn’t seem to have been much of a singularity*) happened in the last 3-4 hundred strips, so, yeah, way after the aPCs were intro’d (in something like the 4th or 5th strip).

  • Of course, since the whole point of the Singularity is we can’t know what’ll happen on the other side of it, I suppose ‘the new super-intelligent AI doesn’t really want to bother doing anything’ is a completely valid outcome…

Actually, they were introduced in strip number one.

Also, anyone think it’s kind of odd that the robot character never heard of this phenomenon of the same email appearing on every computer on Earth, simultaneously, even the ones that weren’t online? I mean, she is a computer! Shouldn’t she have gotten one of those emails, too?

Hnn. Been too long since I read the earliest strips…I remembered Pintsize getting introduced when he met Faye.

I assume she hadn’t been built yet. Or if there even WERE anthroPCs in 1997 in that world. Hell, I’m not even sure WHEN it is in the strip now.

Yeah, Momo is only 2.7 years old. And the strip, while obviously not in our universe, references enough current-ish bands that it must be later than alternate-1999.7.

Ah, totally missed the date ref.

Kind of reminds me of this real life event.
"Dimensional Warp Generator Needed" from strill (trust me, it’s related, ignore the URL)
Anyone else get one of those?

Totally whooshed by the reference in #2089 today. What’s randy supposed to be and what’s a bankai? I feel old

It’s a rather mangled Bleach reference.

Bankai are upgraded forms of the Zanpakuto (mystical swords) used by Soul Reapers/Shinigami.

Randy, on the other hand looks like a Hollow, who don’t have Zanpakuto. (There are the Arrancar, who are Hollows who’ve damaged their masks to gain Soul Reaper abilities; and Visored, Soul Reapers who’ve started wearing Hollow masks to gain Hollow powers, but Randy doesn’t look like either of those.)

Of course, Randy also looks kind of like the Shinigami from Death Note, so it could be a really confusing crossover reference.
