Lolita fashion and lolicon are not the same thing, and not even particularly well correlated. Nor is infatuation with the adorable, even when it ranges into creepy territory.
Well, fair enough. I’m sure I’m not immersed enough in that sort of thing to get the distinctions, sorry if I abused the terms.
Just FTR, Lolita Fashion is a fashion movement primarily popular among teens and young adults, that isn’t specifically sexual (in fact, for some lolita fashion fans, it can be deliberately non-sexual) - though, of course, it can be sexually appealing…I for one find it very so (especially on adult men). Lolicon (short for lolita complex) is a sexual interest in young girls.
(Sorry for being a bit snippy about it, BTW, but after admitting to being a fan of Lolita fashion, it was kind of  to have it conflated with lolicon.)
You oughtta love this guy then:

But seriously, the guy has some mad bass skills. I love this comment from one of his other vids:
I totally dig his style and attitude. Could use some makeup and either a wig or some hairstyling help, but he rocks the dress.
Isn’t Winslow an iPod Anthro? I’m surprised he’s that big…I thought he was standard iPod Classic size. That means Pintsize probably comes up to mid-thigh…which is way bigger than I thought he was, too.
He’s fluctuated in size (like every character in the strip), but he’s always been much bigger than an iPod classic that he’s modeled after.
Yes, I think the point was that Hanners and Marigold were essentially playing dolls.
But… Winslow isn’t dressed up. He’s a prop for Momo. And I’m really unclear how dressed-up Momo holding an unadorned Winslow increases the kawaii factor. Maybe the “little hat” prop is part of that. I guess?
And we’re back to the idea the they’re putting her into an amaloli outfit. Dolls and teddy bears are common accessories in lolita fashion, especially Sweet Lolita - Winslow is serving that purpose. (Tiny hats are also a common lolita fashion trait.)
OK, I guess I get it. I’ll just let my culture ignorance stew over here in the corner. I guess I don’t have to “get” every QC. I just like to. Sorry again for the unfortunate term mangling earlier, Tengu.
Not a problem.
Once I got past the ‘don’t assume I’m a lolicon!’ defensiveness, it was a good chance to talk a bit about something cool.
(Also, I should say Winslow seems to be serving as her doll accessory, since I don’t know for sure Jeph is deliberately going for the lolita look (but, again, with Marigold, it’s a good bet), and dolls aren’t a required accessory - not that anything is…there’s no loli police out there, heh…)
What the hell is he playing there? I see four strings but eight pegs – is it the bass equivalent of a twelve string with double courses of strings, mandolin style? I see there’s a wiki article on such a thing, but I’ve never seen one – is that what I’m looking at (setting aside the dress) ?
Yup, 8-string bass. That page also mentions 12-string basses (a 4-string bass with tripled strings) - that’s what you hear during the intro to Pearl Jam’s Jeremy.
In the tagline to today’s (6-26-12) strip, Jacques says he’s “Totally poking fun at everybody who assumes Marten is gonna hook up with one of the interns”.
Okay, why would anyone think that? Maybe because Jacques has introduced two other female characters since Marten broke up with Dora - and Marten tried to hook up with both of them.
Also - that’s what interns are for.
I assumed it because “Hey, here’s three girls. Go spend the day with them kkthx~bye” seemed like an obvious set-up.
Edit: I don’t even mean a “poor writing” set-up but rather a “This is exactly what your female friend would do for you given the opportunity” set-up. So, in that way, it would actually be realistic writing.
He didn’t try to hook up with Renee, Sam, or Dr. Case, right?
Well, Sam is what, thirteen?
Renee and Dr Case were introduced alongside another female character he did try to hook up with. Which sort of proves the point that when Marten meets a group of new female characters, it’s not unreasonable for the fans to speculate about which of them he’s going to put a move on.
Sure, but your first point was not that point.
