I don't quite get today's "Questionable Content" strip

He did. And I don’t remember any talk of a history of addiction. The only mention of any drugs was the fact that he used to slip bourbon into his milkshakes.

ETA: IIRC he never left a note or any indication of why he did it.

My speculation is that Faye was trying to drink until she overdosed. She took a swing at Marten because she was angry he thwarted her suicide.

He did, and Faye saw him.

I know this is mean of me, but I’m thinking that Angus dodged a bullet here.

I don’t know if you mean he dodged a bullet because Faye broke up with him or he dodged a bullet because you’re assuming Faye isn’t dead.

Because if Faye is dead then Angus certainly did not dodge any bullet. He’s going to spend the rest of his life dealing with the guilt of choosing to move to New York and then having his girlfriend commit suicide over it. And Dora will be the same way. She fired Faye and Faye went home and killed herself. This is the kind of guilt that destroys people. And Faye, who went through her father’s suicide, should know how terrible survivor’s guilt can be.

I’m guessing at this point that this wasn’t a suicide attempt, and was purely accidental alcohol poisoning.

I interpreted this as he dodged a bullet getting out of her life. I can’t help but think the same thing. Faye knows how to bring the drama…I’d be scared dating someone like this. Never knowing what would set them off…

Very well then. Not dead.

Damn.

I suppose it’s certainly not a good thing to drink so much that you pass out face-first in a pile of your own vomit, but I admit I wasn’t expecting a trip to the ER to come about out of it.

Gonna be pretty hard for Jacques to make me sympathize with Faye here, though. She’s always been one of the more annoying characters, probably one of the worst examples of “drama for no reason” (Dora being the other).

I seriously doubt Faye is going to die, but it would make for an interesting arc if she did.

As for why she swung at Marten, I suspect that if she were under full sedation and you poked her with a stick, she would still manage to lash out at you anyway.

So she wakes up and apologizes. Dull. Much better if she had cursed out Marten for overreacting and thrown him out of her hospital room.

I suspect this is going to be the catalyst for Faye finally putting real effort into getting her shit together. It may be dull, but she’s been an absolute mess for 12 years now (real time, not comic time).

It should be noted that this is at least partially inspired by Jeph’s own alcohol problems.

It looks like Dora feels guilty but is sticking with her decision to fire Faye.

Could be a blessing in disguise. Now Faye doesn’t have a job, maybe she’ll decide to make a clean break and go to New York with Angus.

Not sure he’d welcome her back with open arms after she dropped him like a bad habit an hour after he got the part. I wouldn’t.

Also, I’m glad to see Dora sticking to her guns. I didn’t want to see a total reset there.

I think Dora is feeling guilty something bad happened to her friend and she is probably (unfairly) blaming herself for it since she fired Faye that day. But she also realizes she has a business, and has to think about herself (and her employees - if CoD goes under, that another 3-4 people out of a job) first.

Honestly it might be better for Faye to really have to change things to get out of her rut. I don’t think she’s going to go back to Angus (if I were Angus, I wouldn’t want her back), but I do think she’ll get on her feet after a while (which may well be 500 strips with the pace QC goes at).

I wonder if this is going to split the group apart (the title from a few comics ago was “The Great Schism”). Despite Dora doing the right thing and firing Faye, I could see someone blame her for this, and wherever Martin goes so goes the majority of the group.

If that’s the case, he’s going to have some issues at work with Tai.
