I don't quite get today's "Questionable Content" strip

I thought the beeps faded out because she passed out again and couldn’t hear them any longer.

Might’ve died of DTs also.

Probably not, but just sayin’.

Oh, hey, it’s already quarter after 9 here in Brooklyn. Who else is ready for a bourbon?

Then she’ll go, then everyone is going to be extra supportive of Faye during her oh so difficult time.

It’s really just the “We’re here for you, Faye!” part that I see coming.

I thought Faye also, but I was thinking that she’s not conscious.

If you’re pouring, I can be there in a half-hour. Waiting here for the stores to open so I can stock up for the storm.

The traditional way of showing that though is “Beep Beep Beep BEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE…” I’ve no idea if that’s medically accurate or not but that’s the usual shorthand for it. Her beeps stay regular and just fade out. I’m going with “slipped back into unconsciousness”.

Point of view is strictly from Faye - She’s on a gurney, but they have her sitting up, instead of lying down (which is a very common way to transport someone). Faye clocked Marten, but she did it unconsciously, just thrashing out is my guess.

She punches Marten before the machine is connected (no beeps) - it looks like while he’s walking next to the gurney rom the ambulance, since the EMT lady is still there. I think the beeps fading are just her fading out of consciousness, though, not dying. That would be … too dark, I think.

But I’d just like to add that I love what he’s done with the dark panels here. Good comicness.

I dunno, that punch looks solidly planned and landed. And Faye’s in the habit of blaming others.

I definitely read it as - Marten called 911, they took Faye to the ER, she’s fading in and out of consciousness, realized she’s in a hospital, got pissed because SHE DOESN’T HAVE A DRINKING PROBLEM!! and punched Marten, then passed out again. Very typical Faye behavior.

Exactly how I read it too.

I think the beep fadeout is because rather than passing out from the alcohol, she’s passing out from whatever the hospital gave her to keep from clocking someone else.

I don’t think she’s that rational. She’s in a scary situation that she doesn’t understand and is lashing out. The only “planning” is the vague sense that “this is the person who has put me in this scary situation. Also, he’s close enough to punch.”

I think it’s even lower level than that. It’s just her default fight-or-flight response: Marten’s within arm’s reach = fight.

And now it’s dialed up to 12 or 13 by giving Faye acute alcohol poisoning. Which I guess is possible, although given Faye’s tolerance for alcohol, seems unlikely. I just hope this wasn’t a suicide attempt because that would be ramping up the drama to the point where the knob breaks off the machine.

It’s not like she hasn’t had both excessive drinking and a suicide attempt as the basis for her backstory. Toss in abandonment issues and there we go.

Yeah, she’s always had a drinking problem and lashes out if anyone dares to comment on such.

Betcha a dollar there was no food in her system. And that looked like an empty quart next to the empty pint (could have been another quart; Jeph’s detail is sometimes off) on Friday. Even the most serious boozer would succumb to alcohol poisoning in those circumstances.

Her dad died of an intentional drug overdose when his addiction history was uncovered, and she’s been portrayed as a functional alcoholic for years. So none of this is surprising; certainly common as hell in real life. At least with the people I get to deal with every day.

I thought her dad shot himself in the backyard.

That could be too, but IIRC it involved also a secret addiction problem.
