 Then sell him a Dasani, or pass him the tip jar along with his water.
I want to know what you get when you order a “regular” beer.
Or sell him a soda. What kind of bar doesn’t have overpriced sodas available as mixers?
The last couple weeks have been up and down for me since I like Faye/Bubbles and can’t stand Claire.
Exactly. Bars might insist you buy “something” but I don’t think a bar in this country that would specifically push you to buy alcohol. It raises dram shop liability issues.
It’s not 2016 in the comic.
My best guess is that the bar is another weird place like Coffee of Doom where people enjoy the staff being mean to them.
Though, if the original version of the current comic were canon, I’d reevaluate that. Something silly as a harpoon perfectly fits, though.
And, yes, it is 2016 in the comic. Just an alternate version of 2016. Otherwise, he couldn’t make current references.
Also, here’s the actual 3211 comic, which someone uploaded to Reddit. Jeph says it’s canon.
Is anyone following Jeph’s other comic, Alice Grove? It’s starting to get interesting.
(I have to say, I found Sedna to be extremely hot during the fight scenes, and that was *before *she appeared topless.)
Or a 2016 “twenty minutes into the future”… in any case a world where we would not have receded when it comes to responsible drinking.
As the better half and I would say, “it’s like you wrote this shit.” I hope Brun is growing on you.
Me? I really like Brun. She reminds me of … me.
Sorry to be late, but there was a fire, and Clinton’s hair became more Hipstler Youth and he somehow misplaced his glasses, and he’s just fine? I spent half of today with only one contact in, and noticed that I probably couldn’t recognize the presence of a human face 8 feet out? Were they lenseless glasses?
Brun is yet another asocial and vaguely violent wild woman brought in to be mellowed by the Group, just like Marigold, Hannelore, and, for that matter, Faye. It’s the same story arc that Jeph keeps coming back to. This one even has the added redundancy that Clinton is being turned into Marten, even as specifically as his mother being more sexually active than he is.
Marigold wasn’t violent, and Hanners has OCD and only thinks she might commit violence due to her disorder (it’s a common unwanted thought, and that’s what OCD is–unwanted thoughts you try to control.)
I do admit I see the pattern you are describing–I just think you’re being too specific. He introduces people with social problems–usually women–who then get normalized by being in or in contact with the group. In one way or another, it holds for every character, even Dale (who had a lesser version of Marigold’s arc) and Penelope (who got over thinking she wasn’t good enough to have a boyfriend).
And, yeah, I do think he is giving Clinton Marten’s old traits. Because he wants to keep writing that character, but Marten just really isn’t there anymore. He kinda graduated to the mature advice giver.
Though I do hope we explore his career. And the problems inevitable in any long term relationship. Plus, I still believe that Claire will eventually have some crisis related to her trans status. It’s a Chekhov’s gun that hasn’t gone off. Even if most people accept her, something has to happen.
Maybe Claire’ll try and pee in the wrong rest room.
And thank god no one’s mellowed Emily out yet.
Anybody else think that Renee (Brun’s friend) is the same Renee that Angus dated, the Faye-equivalent at the Other Coffee Shop?
On the Reddit forums, they say that Jeph doesn’t repeat names. Everyone assumes it’s her, given what Angus said about her.
Oops: forgot the link. Reddit - Dive into anything. I’d have linked to the specific subcomment, but it shows up in a lot of them.
That would fit with her issuing absurdly violent threats.
I admit to being kind of slow on the uptake, even whilst reading the funny pages, but does this mean Emily is going to arrive for her shift tomorrow, see Clifford in all his no-glasses tousled-hair radiance, and do a jaw-drop eye-boing like a Tex Avery wolf?
