I have found my favorite potato chip flavor

The Herr’s horseradish chips I’m familiar with were not kettle chips. But I think that’s all they offer in the flavor now. Boo!

They have chicken and waffles flavor. To me, they just taste like maple syrup.

Walkers the English one do a roast chicken, I’m obsessed with how much it tastes like roast chicken. I just have to nibble a tiny piece and I can see the entire Sunday roast.

As a kid it was all about smokey bacon, there were only a few flavours in England back then. I moved to Amsterdam and they only had two flavours, salted or paprika. If you’re only going to have one flavour then paprika for me please.

Well, Walker’s started out independently in (looking it up) 1948, and then was acquired by Frito-Lay in 1989. It looks like it was some time in the mid-90s that both Lay’s and Walker’s got that red-banner-with-sun logo.

My husband is hooked on cheddar and horseradish chips, and I can’t stand them. This might be why he’s hooked on them, tell the truth.

My favorite are plain, original Lays. If I have to pick a favor, any good salt and vinegar will do.

Herr’s, Wise, and Utz were all childhood staples but apparently not part of my current food desert.

I’ve never seen their pepperoncini but have you tried their Thai Sweet Chili? I’m not a big potato chip eater but I could down a whole bag of those in one fell swoop!

I went to Trader Joe’s just today and I gotta say I wouldn’t even have considered/noticed the cheddar and horseradish chips if it weren’t for this thread. Trying some now. Ooh, my sinuses! They’re pretty good.

My go-to favorite are the Kettle salt and fresh cracked pepper chips. Just a touch of jalapeno in there and so good with plain sour cream as a dip.

I also picked up a bag of chips with South African style seasoning. Haven’t tried them yet. It was a good trip to Trader Joe’s. I don’t shop there enough!

Let us know how the South African chips are, I’ve been wanting to try them.

I tried Roast Chicken and Gravy potato chips once. Yes, they really tasted like that.

But they were just a gimmick release, and the company never put any more out. I still mourn…

I like them. Milder than the cheddar horseradish for sure. These are regular chips, not crinkle or kettle. Hard to describe if you’re not familiar with “South African Seasoning.” A hint of what I can best describe as savory barbecue rub, with an equal herbiness like herbs de provence. I got an additional hint of smokiness and small amount of spice on the tongue after about an ounce of chips. The flavor lingers. I ate an apricot after the chips and still have some of that seasoning lingering.

They won’t replace my favorite, but I’d pick them up for a party or if I have room in the cart after the rest of my shopping is done.

All the talk of chicken chips reminds me of my ill-fated quest, after falling in love with the tawdry yet sublime glory that is Chicken in a Biskit, to make chicken-flavored popcorn. I still have the dream.

Tawdry yet sublime…what an apt description for those terrible, awful, delicious [del]salt licks[/del] crackers.

Tayto Cheese & Onion crisps occupy a special place in my heart. And mouth.
