I hope the Red Sox kill the fucking Rockies.

Astros fan gives DianaG high five

Congratulations to both Rockies and Red Sox fans for marvelous seasons. They both have a lot to be proud of.

Sweetie, he’s 32, and will be when the next season opens. And “getting worse” than this season does not equal decline - a bit of regression to the mean would be expected, even for A-Rod. However, I would be willing to bet a crisp new $50 bill that his performance over the next five years will be roughly in line with his average performance over the last ten, which would not constitute decline by any reasonable definition of the word.

God, you really are just insufferable… and you’re an idiot. tdn began the entire sub-topic of BoSox not being local vernacular. Go back and read, whydoncha?

I find it sad that your own basement-level self-esteem caused you to take all this personally as if someone’s trying to exclude you from something. Find. Meds. Now.

Time for the placating aphorisms, such as:

The good lord never gives you more of a post-season ass beating than you can bear.

Actually, by way of follow-up to my previous message, Alex Rodriguez’s average season since he was 22 (ie, for the last ten years):

BA: .304
OBP: .393
SLG: .589
HR: 45

I will bet you the following two things: (1) That Rodriguez’s average statistics over the course of the 2008, 2009, and 2010 seasons will not substantially differ from those averages; and (2) That Mike Lowell will never have in his career a single season to match that average season described above.

ETA - Not to take anything away from Mike Lowell, who is a good player and a big part of this World Series win for Boston, of course. I think it’s just frustrating because I want A-Rod on the team for which I root, but that’s not going to happen and meanwhile the fans of the teams who have a shot at signing him are all like, nah, we don’t want him. Fine, sign him and trade him to the Mets. We’ll suffer along with his inevitable decline.

Dude, I’m not trying to break up your fan club. I’m sorry you’re losing him, if having him around makes you happy. But I don’t want him, and you’re not going to convince me I should.

Hell, my team never had him. And if stupid shit like facts gets you all het up, then by all means continue to believe that Mike Lowell is a better or more valuable player.

I’ll even say this: May you, and your team, get what you want.

Thank you, that’s very kind.

Have they played the World Series yet?

Hee. Sorry to get so worked up. I haven’t had any caffeine yet this morning.

The Red Sox played, but the Rockies not so much.

Please please please tell me that you just can’t STAND it and will go away?
I know the Indians won’t get Rodriguez, but any team that doesn’t want him is crazy. Some teams can’t afford him, but every team should want him.

Because every team needs an arrogant prick that nobody likes.

Geez, nobody ever tells me anything.

Every team should want the best player in baseball. Being a nice person doesn’t actually win any games.

Lowell will be two or three times cheaper than A-Rod, and is a genuinely nice man. Maybe you opt for the asshole if you’re desperate and can’t win without him, but the Red Sox clearly can win without him, and with their biggest challenger the Yanks all but finished six months before the season starts (assuming the Yanks don’t have a change of heart and try and sign him after saying the won’t), I don’t see the need to pay 30-35 mil a year for him just to piss off the Yankees. And yes maybe his skills aren’t going to decline this year or next, and if you could get him for a two or three year deal, I’d say sign the asshole. But he’s going to want what, seven years or so, and when youre paying 35 mil a year for the 40 year-old A-Rod, that might be a completely different player then the 33 year old one. The can sign Lowell for 10 mil and two other players for 10 mil for what they would pay A-Rod.

Have any of the Rockies weighed in on losing the series, Christianity wise?

Here’s a pretty good NY Times article on the whole affair. Presented as more of a report than an agenda’d opinion piece, I find it even more difficult to generate much ire towards their management or, more inexplicably, the players and fans.

Pike’s Peak out of a molehill.

Baseball is a team sport. If he helps you win the series, sure. But what exactly have the Yankees achieved with him, or the Rangers, or the Mariners?

Congrats to the Red Sox, they outplayed Colorado and were the better team. But for crying out loud, can you fans just enjoy the win and stop figuring out the best way to buy next year’s championship?

Being an asshole doesn’t win any games, either. Even an asshole with ARod’s numbers.

In all seriousness… he announced his his contract status during Game 4 of a World Series he wasn’t in. What exactly does this guy have to do to convince people that no matter how good he is, he IS NOT a guy you want in your clubhouse?
