I like my women -> ? Who is the next top waddle?

No, probably not. You could check your e-mail though.

There are at least 2 stickied FAQs in the ATMB forum that will begin to answer your questions.

When it comes to Tyra

I think she looks beautiful and healthy. But I’d never in a million years want to look like that.

And… while, in that particular photoshoot, she appears to be showing her natural body to some extent, if anyone’s ever watched America’s Next Top odel, the story’s a little different. When you see her “in person” she looks pretty much like that… but they open the “elimination ceremony” every week with a picture of Tyra… where she’s photoshopped so much she’s practically a computer generated human.

look here (if it doesn’t take you to the picture of Tyra in the green dress, click “models.” from what I can tell, that website’s funky.) or check out the photos here… she still doesn’t look unhealthily thin, but she does look much smaller than she does in the swimsuit photos.
I don’t think she’s being a hypocrite by putting her hair over he shoulders, but I don’t think she’s entirely on board with the “I love my body and I’ll show it just the way it is” idea either.

You end up treading dangerous water here and get into things like… is a fat body riddled with flaws? is a soft belly something to be ashamed of? when does it become ugly and something to cover up? Is it impossible to love your body and still recognize your flaws?

But those are pics back from her modeling career - you’re too young to remember but many of those pics were in ads and magazines oh so many moons ago when you were just a wee thing. At one point Tyra was a super model and had the requsit skinny body to go with it. And yah, they were photo retouched too - as I said - they’re pics from her career - not recent takes.

Just don’t stalk Alice in a creepy way talking about her boobs and you’ll be OK.

Well, you can talk about my boobs a little…

I don’t think she’s being a hypocrite either. Of course she cares about how she looks, that’s how she makes her living.

Anyone remember when Heidi Klum said the model looked like a fat Minnie Mouse on Project Runway? That model was either a size 4 or 6.

heh… I know Tyra used to be a skinny supermodel- but I’m about 100% positive those are recent pictures… they always correspond to the totally ridiculous weekly photoshoots for the ANTM girls. The ones I linked to are from this past year.

Right - they use her former pictures as inspiration for the weekly challenges. I promise - those are old photos - in some of them she’s barely 18.

I don’t think so. Last year, for sure, they had a “alternate careers” photoshoot and Tyra’s lead-in photo was of her making a stupid face and standing on her talk show set- definitely recent. And most of those photos wouldn’t make any sense out of context- the one with the bull horns, the one with the ring leader costume, the one where she’s being the scowly model stereotype…

and, correct me if I’m wrong, but the dresses she’s wearing in those pictures… I don’t think those were really IN in the 90s… that neckline/cinched waist and the halter loop thingy and the color green she’s wearing in the group photo…

anyway. I’m not sure how I’d prove it either way, so I’m going to leave it at that. But I’m still pretty sure they’re recent/photoshopped

To be fair, she retired from modeling in May 2005, so quite a few of those pictures (if they are recent, some of them really are from her younger days though, I agree with Alice on that. The bathtub one is one of them IIRC.) were probably taken before the weight gain was too noticeable.

If that was Alison’s paper dress, it did make the model look fat–and that was the problem. The model wasn’t fat.

I definitely don’t think she’s a hypocrite. She’s a model… it’s HER JOB to minimize her negative attributes and maximize her positive ones. It’s part of what you learn to do when you become a model. She probably wasn’t even aware she was posing that way, because she’s been doing it for years… I"m sure it’s instinct by now. Watching her show she’s consistently stood up to anyone who wants to eliminate the models for being plus-size. She thinks her experience of being a black model helped to alter the industry’s perceptions of what beauty is, and considers issues like weight and height to be arbitrary limitations on beauty in the same way race used to be.

5’ 10", 161 pounds … she looks fine. Still, she’s far from “thick” or fat; I wouldn’t consider her to be plus-sized. She may have “curves”, but they’re not the kind that would be catered to in a place like Lane Bryant.

dig it, elmwood there’s hope for you yet!

You want puls-size and sexy? Try Joely Fisher…now that’s the kind of woman that looks like she’s not “only non-fat whole-wheat bread with tofu”.
You want more? Sarah Rue

Tyra…call me…I’ll love even if you get 20 more lbs.

It made her look like she didn’t have a waist. Sort of thick in the middle. I’m reluctant to use the word fat talking about someone that wears a size 4-6 but yea, compared to the other models she did look heavier.

It was the way Heidi said it that was sort of funny.

The model had a GIANT yellow bow on the top of her head! Heidi nailed it, with the lines of the horrid dress, and that bow, she did look like Minne.

Speaking of society’s “norm” for women I’d just like to add my $.02 about that Nutrisystem commercial. The woman in the commercial is raving about being a “size 2” after having lost 33 lbs. I know from experience that 10 lbs = 1 clothing size (approximately and by personal experience) so at 33 lbs heavier she was what a size 8 or 10? Since when is a size 8 or 10 so hideous that a person is inspired to join Nutrisystem and lose 33 lbs.

Every time I see that commercial I want to slap that bitch and make her quit saying “size 2, I’m a size 2”

Perhaps I’m letting this get to me.

OK, sorry for the hijack. I’m done.

Yeah, well, she’s probably not actually a size 2. A size two, even with inflated sizes, is pretty small. I mean, I have a couple friends that are that size, but many many many more of my friends are bigger.

Hell, the smallest of my close friends is just a small little thing (people always poing out how little she is)- 5’1 and I think she’s currently 120? Maybe 115? She’s wearing a size 11 jeans. Granted, she just had a baby, but I would have guessed she was a LOT smaller than an 11.
