I like my women -> ? Who is the next top waddle?

The first time I heard her say “This is a 2,” with that insipid little giggle, I turned to my husband and said, “She must be talking about her IQ.”

Homo Ergaster you rock. I was looking for examples of “healthy” bodytypes. thanks!

Same thing here. I’m small - my husband affectionately refers to me as “a human built to HO scale”, and I’ve probably only met a half dozen “normal” adult women in my entire life that were smaller all around than I am. I wear a size 5. To get into a size 2, I’d have to lose probably 20 pounds… and there’s no WAY an 87-pound adult is “normal.”

I think I’ve decided that moving this thread was a mistake. It’s staying calm, and it appears I jumped the gun.

Back to IMHO.

That’s weird. Do you know what brand she’s wearing? I’m about 125 and 5’4 and I wear either a 2 or 4 (vanity sizing). I’d be swimming in an 11.

I was going to say…I think it depends on body type. When I’m 128 (I’m 5’2") I fit into a size 4 in pants and a 2 in skirts. Even with vanity sizing, those are still pretty small.

I need to get me some of those clothes with vanity sizing. I must be an odd shape, because I couldn’t get into a size 2 if my life depended on it.

Well, I weigh a lot more than 87 pounds and I have quite a few 2s in my closet - mind you I also have a bunch of 4s and 6s so I agree that the 2s are probably vanity sized. I think it depends how you carry your weight, to be frank.

And I always get in trouble for saying this, but if it’s nasty to mock someone for being a size 14 or 16 or 22, it’s just as obnoxious to mock somebody for being a size 2. K?

Agreed. My mother is somewhere between a size 2 and a size 6, depending on the brand. She’s always been very tall and slender; her top weight was when she was pregnant with me. She’s always been criticized for not eating enough. She’s a vegetarian, though she does eat animal products like cheese and ice cream. She also likes various kinds of grilled fish. She eats well-balanced meals and normal portions, just without meat…I don’t see why people complain or tell her she’s not eating anything.

I’ve even had people blame me for her size; apparently I need to watch her constantly to make sure she eats.

Tyra might love her skin but the magazine might think it needs to look like Corinthian leather, and airbrush it. EVERYONE who is photographed for a magazine shoot like that is airbrushed. Badmouthing Banks about this, as if she has any control over it, as if it isn’t de rigeur whether the model has great skin or not, is ridiculous.

Wow, are you really saying that I, who love my breasts (a perky 34DD, btw, so I’m not padding or jacking up), should not wear a push up bra or I’m a hypocrite? WHAT? I just got a new IPEX bra from VS and it totally changes my profile to look like Jayne Mansfield. If I wear it with a dress that shows off my cleavage, that means I am a hypocrite for saying I love my breasts? How completely absurd. It’s me showing them off BECAUSE I like them. Seems quite obvious to me.

Again, I have to say, are you kidding with this? Her hair hides like 2" of her arm, mostly her armpit. How is this some sort of obfuscation? Look at the picture again. She’s not hiding behind her hair, at all. It’s not accurate to say, much less to call Banks a hypocrite over.

I agree entirely… I’m not mocking anyone, just trying to figure out how come people who are bigger than I am can get into way smaller sizes! I find some variance in clothing sizes, but in general 4s are too small on me and 6s are too large (and the fact that my size is a “junior” size and limits my selection of age-appropriate clothing is a whole 'nother rant.)

As I said, I know very few women my size or smaller. Since most people tend to refer to me as “tiny” or “petite” or “skinny” and I am 20 pounds heavier than 87 pounds, I think 87 pounds is VERY tiny for an adult.

See, this is where that body image stuff we get from the media DEFINITELY affects the way we think. That we are carefully watching what we say lest we inadvertantly “mock” someone for their size shows me that we are way conscious of this stuff. I don’t usually even mention my weight, because it is what it is - bringing it up at all in this thread serves no purpose except for me to try to figure out basically how it is even possible for a woman probably 8-9 inches taller than I am to be considered heavy at 160 pounds. I believe the “normal” weight for my height is about 115-125 pounds, so to me, someone THAT much taller weighing the same seems as if it would be far too thin.

At least in my case it’s because when I’m in shape (which I am NOT right now) I have a very defined narrow waist and hour glass figure at that weight (no huge tits, though, sorry, I’m a fucking goblin)

I also did ballet for years and when I feel like being thin I get a personal trainer and build up a ton of lean muscle, while lowering my body fat percentage to “normal low”. Lean muscle weighs more than fat.

My sister has a completely different build than me. She looks pudgey at 120, she usually keeps her weight down around 110. She is a true size 0. She’s very very slight, flat…does have curves though.

Same height as me.

That’s sort of why the BMI charts are across a range, isn’t it? I actually sort of got the impression you think Indygrrl and I are lying. I can tell you right now that at 138 I definitely look bloatey but at 125-128 I’m downright thin.

Oh, no, and I’m sorry if I gave that impression. I have a very good friend who I would SWEAR is the exact same size I am, and she does wear the same size clothing as I do… but she’s 20 pounds heavier than I am (which puts her very firmly in the “normal” range for this height.) She is far more muscular than I am, but I was floored when she told me what she weighed. She claims I weigh less because my bones are hollow, and I’m beginning to believe her. (Or perhaps it’s my brainpan that’s empty.)

I’m small-waisted, flat-chested and a tad bottom-heavy, but I’m overall noticeably dinky - my six-year old niece can wear my shoes and gloves, and she’s dead-center in the height-weight chart for her age.

Honestly, people are floored when I tell them I weigh 125/126/128 and I look athletic (which I think is more accurate for me than “thin”) at the height I am, so I can kind of understand. The poster upthread talked about people don’t look overweight at a size 8 or 10, but I do.

If you have the type of body where your waist nips in very sharply, you can go to smaller sizes, especially in skirts. I know people who are physically thinner than me but larger sizes because they have a straighter figure. OTOH, their clothes hang differently than mine do on me (more elegantly, I think)

If you are building up muscle at the same time as you’re burning fat your weight is never going to go that low. If I weren’t doing that maybe the weight would be lower, but I feel better having the muscle and my mom was just diagnosed with osteopenia, so I feel a medical need to do all the weights and stuff, not just vanity. The mean trainer is always having me do squats, lunges…exercise that gives me muscular haunches. My last trainer gave me lovely defined muscular (but not crazy big) arms. All those pushups :).

Well, I think the easy answer is that they’re not actually bigger than you. As I said, it really depends how you carry your weight.

In recent years my boobs have gotten friggin ginormous (32E - E!!! What the hell is THAT about??) and I think that they make me look bigger over all. So, it’s possible that the people you think are bigger than you are actually only bigger than you in ONE AREA.

Another example is my former roommate - she an I used to wear the same size and NOBODY believed it - the difference is that her hips are wide and her butt is flat. My hips are narrow and my ass is a bubble (matches the boobs I guess) - so while we wear the same size, it looks totally different on us. Additionally, shes 5’2" and I’m 5’8" - the six inches of height make a huge difference in how things sit.

Yeah… I’m 5’1" and maybe 115 pounds (haven’t weighed self in a while) and I wear mostly 2s. I think it really does depend on how you carry it - I have small bones, which makes me look smaller than I really am.

As for Tyra, she is nowhere near fat, whatever else she may be. I don’t think she’s being a hypocrite either. Like Rubystreak says, those decisions are made by the editors, not by the models.

I don’t get how she’s a hypocrite in any way. To say Tyra a hypocrite because the way she looks in ANY of the photos posted in this thread contradicts the idea that she loves her body… it’s a sick thing, don’t you think? She’s a model and a celebrity. Her pictures are going to be tinkered with-- it’s part of the industry and no reflection on her self-esteem. Oh, but her hair is hanging down. She has boobs in a structured bra. Must mean she hates herself and all her claims of feeling beautiful right now must be lies…

 and kind of

A little late for this, but I have first-hand, in-person knowledge that alice_in_wonderland is smokin’ hot and has a great rack. And likes to shop.

Yeah, I really don’t get women’s sizing at all. I’m 5’7’’ and weigh around 110 and yet most of my pants are size 6 or 7.

You’re just saying that because you have a girl-crush on me.
