I looked and looked: A tentative MMP

Thanks, Soapy, for getting us started! If there’s no one signed up, it’s never a problem if more than one person starts us off. We’ve had them just merge threads if there’s more than one MMP; that makes it extra interesting.

Anyway, excellent topic for the holidays. Hmmm, things I can’t pass up: French onion dip with pretty much anything (but especially potato chips); anything pastry-like, both sweet and savory (quiches, turnovers, tarts, etc.); any hot creamy dip (buffalo chicken, crab/oyster/lobster/clam + cream cheese, etc); hummus; guacamole; and many many more items that I’m forgetting.

Condolences, MBG. Your aunt sounds like she was a great person. Sounds like you’ve got a good plan for keeping everyone’s potential stress down.

Feel better, Taters.

Hi LiLi! I’ve been reading your blog pretty regularly, but it’s always nice to see you stop by here… Hope Thomas is better quickly and that the stress lets up a bit soon.

The concept of that cake sounds yummy, taxi. Maybe you can make a better variation sometime.

Lots of work today, but I’m off tomorrow so that I can go tour Christmas decorations at the Governor’s residence and run some errands, including getting a few small gifties. Hopefully the weather won’t be awful; it’s VERY COLD here right now.

Anyway…gotta get some stuff done.

Hugs.

GT

LiLi! I forgot to say howdy earlier. Pardon my atrocious manners.

I went with speckled butterbeans to go with the chikin’ 'n dumplin’s. I knew y’all were on pins and needles.

lindy (everybody gets a nickname so this is a workin’ one) I boil six aigs to make deviled aigs for the two of us. That makes for six deviled aigs each, which, IMO is a single servin’. Have I mentioned I lurve me some deviled aigs?

gt my mother is goin’ to tour the Governor’s mansion tomorrow too! Well, the Jawja Governor’s mansion. I have a sneakin’ suspicion you’ll be tourin’ the Ohio Governor’s mansion. Correct me if’n I’m wrong.

taxi KT is much more polite than me. I’d have snarfed down that piece of prosciutto while yellin’ “Ya snooze, Ya lose!” I like prosciutto.

I want party food!

I think I ate too many pickles with dinner.

feeling greenish…

Which is the usual color one feels after eatin’ pickles.

taxi, sounds delicious. Don’t be hard on yourself, I have the same problem - I was at a potluck criticizing my dish last week, only to be met with nods and blank stares while they scarfed it all down :p.

swampy, you’ve convinced me - tomorrow I’m making deviled “aigs”. Six is quite the fair serving, and no I don’t think it’s overkill. I don’t mind the nickname one bit

Big time stressed. More later, when I don’t sound so whiney.

:Throws shrimp at bobbio until he feels better. :

(((((**LiLi **and Bobbio))))) I’ve been there.

MBG, sorry to hear about your loss. (hugs)

Like tarragon, I absolutely cannot pass up deviled eggs. Also hummus, artichoke dip (dairy, but who cares) or those little meatballs on toothpicks.

Currently I am on Day 5 of life with no uterus. I got out of the hospital Saturday, and am forbidden from housework or heavy lifting. Sounds like fun, until you actually have to live in a house when one of the two people who do the housework is out of commission. Fortunately my mom and sisters have been very helpful, and I am truly grateful to them. I am currently enjoying some lovely Vicodin while the Diva (aka my teenage niece) cooks din-din for me, apparently eggplant parmigiana, but I feel a bit dizzy and don’t trust myself enough to walk down the hall to check.

The somewhat longer version now is that DH was having chest pain/pressure, an ache in his jaw and pretty much all of the other symptoms on the “You may be having a heart attack if…” posters on Friday.

He calls me from work to say he’s not feeling well and wants me to take him to the hospital. When I get to his office, he reveals what’s up. I’ll tell you all what I told him:

**If you think you’re having a heart attack, call 911.
Don’t call someone who doesn’t have an ambulance. **

Fortunately, an ER is only about a mile and a half from his office. Get him there, and while he’s being triaged, I call his sister. She arrives shortly and promptly declares this ER to be defective and entirely wrong for cardiac problems. She tells the doc, who says it would be illegal for us to leave and go to another hospital. Sis then basically says “Oh yeah? Watch me. Try to stop me.”

Fifteen minutes later, she’s arranged for an ambulance transport, a bed at a highly rated hospital with advanced cardiac care capabilities in another city and a cardiologist to receive the patient, which satisfies EMTALA and annoys the ER doc. The ER doc is dumbfounded at the whole concept that anyone would ever think of going to a good hospital and be able to arrange for it.

By this time, DH has been on a EKG and had two rounds of blood tests to check for a chemical marker that indicates heart muscle damage. None apparent, so he’s stable and able to go.

Skipping over a very boring Saturday and Sunday, DH had angioplasty today and there was nothing bad enough to need a stent, but there were a couple minor restrictions that got the balloon treatment. His color’s better and he’s not feeling pressure in his chest now.

I’m fairly sure that the original hospital would have sent him home on Saturday morning, saying “You didn’t have a heart attack. If the symptoms return, come back as soon as possible.” and left it at that.

Up, caffeinated, off to irk. Is it Xmas Day yet?

{{{{MBG}}}}

{{{{BBBobbio}}}}

gotti, Yay for DH’s sister.

Happy Tuesday - up and caffeinated and brekkied as well! YUM!

Have to laugh at ya, Doggio - is it Christmas yet?! Ye gods, man! LOL Today is the 69th anniversary of Pearl Harbor, however, so do remember all the service men and women were who there on December 7, 1941.

Well, even though I’m caffeinated and brekkied, I’m still kinda sleepy, so have a good day today, all! Hope Soapy is feeling less green today!

Warning: whine-age ahead.

I honestly think I’m going to crack up from everything going on.

[li]Mrs. Fred is still in the hospital, and Mr. Fred is badgering me constantly for advice and help. Normally, that’s OK, but:[/li]
[li]VWife is in a different hospital. Sunday AM early, her left arm started hurting more than usual. At 10:30 sunday night, she woke me up to so me that it was significantly swollen, and had a circumferential bruise that looked like she was attacked by a blood pressure cuff from hell. she’s getting blood products and vitamin K as an in patient to stop the hemorrhage. This is the same arm she was going to have rotator cuff reconstruction done on it Thursday, and that might still happen.[/li]
[li]Had a long talk with my current boss, and I might have to eat the cost of moving to Moooooooomland myself. I have 0 bucks saved outside of my 401(k).[/li]
[li]I am really obsessing about selling the VunderLair because it will be at a loss, and I came to the stark realization that I LIKE it here. I never really felt at home when we lived in Hampton, but I do in Cottonfield County.[/li]
[li]The scale of the physical effort to move us 200 miles is overwhelming me.[/li]
[li]The company presence at the Coastie base is withering not far behind my departure.[/li][/ul]

I can haz lottery?

Herbs, I want it to be the 25th, so the madness will be over for another year.

Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffienatin’.

gotti, first glad that DH is ok. Second, yay for DHSis! Please let him know that a total internet stranger has him in my thoughts and prayers. I once thougth I was havin’ a heart attack. Turns out everything was ok but it did make me start to behave better healthwise.

BBBobbio, if there is a chance you could stay in Cottonfield County I say stay. However, you have to do what you have to do for a job, I know. VWife and Mr./Mrs. Fred are in my thoughts and prayers also. Here’s hopin’ for a stressless BBBobbio soon.

Today is Pearl Harbor Day. Think I’ll go see my two favorite WWII vets around here today. Maybe I’ll see if’n they want to go to AJ’s (a local favorite waterin’ hole) for a drink.

Happy Tuesday Y’all!

**(((((LiLi)))))

(((((MBG)))))** - I’m sorry for your loss, she sounds like a really great person.

(((((VBob))))) - lots of stresses there, I hope you can get something worked out one way or another.

I am down to my last two weeks at home on my own. 'im indoors finishes his job in Belgium on 17th December and moves all his stuff back over that weekend. I am kind of looking forward to having him back again, and kind of not. I like it when he’s not under my feet all the time making a mess and getting in the way. Selfish, maybe, but that’s just how it is.

Swampy, good luck rejoining the rest of us wageslaves!

Favourite party food…oh, too many to mention! Basically anything that my current diet doesn’t really allow me to have - pastry, cheese, pizza, dips, all the good stuff…

I have the day off on Thursday. I am supposed to be doing my xmas shopping but there will be some serious temptation to stay in bed with the kitties as it’s nice and warm. Still, presents don’t buy themselves and I will have to brave the hordes at some point. On the plus side, we have a German xmas market in town so there will be hot mulled wine on offer.

Whoa, gotti, what a scare! Glad to hear that DHSis was knowledgeable enough to get him to a good hospital.

So sorry for your stress, Bobbio. You’ve really sounded at home in Cottonfield County. Maybe the new job is just meant to be temporary?

I have the day off today, but have lolled about so far. Time to get up, though and get a few things done. Starting with breakfast and a bit of knitting, I think.

Then I need to get some work done on park volunteer stuff (organizing for next year) and need to do some Christmas shopping and home-office cleaning and organizing I think.

Yes, swampy, I will be touring the Ohio governor’s residence (somewhere along the line, they decided mansion sounded too grand, thankyewverymuch, so everyone calls it “the mansion”, but it’s officially “the residence”). See? A bunch of my friends helped decorate for the holidays, so I’m going to admire the handiwork. Pics later.

Anyway, I need to get moving. Inspiration, please?

Hugs.

GT

That’s scary, gotti! Glad his sister got him to the good hospital and that he was taken care of.

Sorry for all the stress bobbio and doggio.

I made a non-authentic but very tasty chicken statay stir fry for dinner last night. With lots of vegetables and brown rice. There’s been too much unhealthy eating since before Thanksgiving so I’m trying to make healthy (and tasty) food in between parties.

My team at work is going to tour our warehouse and to listen to some customer service calls tomorrow. It should be interesting at least.

Thursday is our anniversary, but without looking at the date, I bought orchestra tickets with a friend. I just saw that it was a Thursday and that it was the only date that they’re performing at the cathedral. I haven’t been to the cathedral so it seemed like a good opportunity to hear good music and see what I assume is a beautiful building. Then after I’d ordered the tickets, I saw the date and went “Oops!” We’ll just have to celebrate on Saturday. Which is easier than trying to do something on a weeknight anyway.

taxi I think the symphony sounds like a great anniversary “date.” I’ve been in St. Paul Cathedral. If that’s the one you’re talkin’ about, it’s bee-yoo-ti-ful! Of course, Minneapolis may well have a cathedral too. What do I know?

It’s cold! 41 degrees Amurrkin at noon is cold for these parts.

Quesadillas (pronounced Kwes-AH-dill-AHs) for dindin tonight. Chikin and beef. Plus rice and refried beans. Sort of a Mexican comfort food dindin.

I do not have to go out anywhere again today. I’d been out earlier takin’ care of some stuff like food shoppin’ and a couple things to get myself ready to be a workin’ bear tomorrow. I’m glad I don’t need to go back out. I shall chill for a while.

Later Y’all!

Just checking in.

Thanks for all the condolences, Auntie was a great person.

It’s cold here, and I dislike cold.

Off to lunch, then a meeting.

Lunch will be crispy fried bacon, and a bowl-o-soup.

Meeting will be dull.

Wow, gotti. I’m glad DH is going to be alright.

Bobbio, I hope the stress levels go down. Keeping VWife in my thoughts, along with Mrs. Fred.

Not only is today Pearl Harbor Day, it’s my son’s 18th birthday. I can’t believe it! Seems like he was just heading off to kindergarten a few months ago!

Well, I’ve got to get going. Lots to do, so little time.
