I need ideas for a website!

I need some feedback about web surfing. I need to know what people enjoy reading on websites, and what types of websites people go to? I need people to post here the details on a website you would like to see. I would kinda like to make an original website, something that would stand out and make people visit over and over again, enjoy the content, surf the layout with ease, and not be porn. I don’t need to add to the massive gigabytes of porn on the Internet…
Wait, is it possible for there to be too much???

A site dedicated to the lives of the SDMB moderators. Their loves, their loathes. A list of their favourite chocolates so everyone could send some. Free SDMB post cards that we could all send to Cecil, I could go on and on …

I am the Queen of personal web sites.

I cannot say my websites get lots of hits, maybe 20-50 on good days. This is probably because I don’t know how to promote them. But still, I get a steady stream of visitors.

My secret is to make a website about something that I know and care about. Be informative. The website isn’t about me me me (though I’m not saying I never write about myself!) One website that has done well is a very comprehensive site on (what else?) Yosemite. Lots of pictures, my “reviews” on lodging, links, and so forth. People seem to like this website, because it offers a lot of information about Yosemite, and lots of pictures of a pretty place. If someone is looking for information on Yosemite, my site is not a bad place to look. (If I do say so myself!)

All the other websites I have are the same way. I try to focus on one thing, and provide some real content on it. My advice to you is to pick a subject that you feel you have some knowledge in, and write a comprehensive website about it. Provide links, cover different facets of the topic, pictures, etc. If it is a subject that interests you, it probably will interest other people out there as well. Even if it is something like Buffy the Vampire Slayer - go for it. Look at what other Buffy sites have, and offer something a little different.

Oh, and joining a webring isn’t a bad idea either.

(P.S. Don’t look at my Yosemitebabe site as an example–I just started it!)

Yosemitebabe, thats the best artwork I’ve ever seen made using a computer! Whats your secret? Can I have lessons? Private tutoring? Seriously, thats some great work, everyone should check it out. The cowboy looks like some old coin design worn down throughout the years, it is really wierd!

There are not enough sites that feature dead transvestites and the necrophiles that love them.

Find a niche and fill it.

Whatever you do, you have to update regularly, every day, week, two weeks, whatever. The repeat viewers is where it’s at.

I do alright. Just take the website that has your city name if its still available.

Or how about ‘The international marijuana quality testers’ web site? People could mailyou pot & you could test it out & rate it.
