I pit Frank Stallone

Ah, so both Poopants McDraftdoger and the Italian Tatterdemalian are thinking its good to go apeshit psycho over some kids.

Cripes, disgree with the kids if you want but this kinds of reaction makes me think ‘running scared’ to the 9th degree. I think y’all got a little got a little too comfy with every mass shooting reaction dying down after a couple of weeks.

I saw them open for Mr Bungle.

This.
They didn’t expect this much pushback, and seem to be running a little scared now, as evidenced by their classy tweeting. I’m pretty sure they realise that it’s just a little different this time, that those bothersome kids might not “just…go away!” as quickly as they hoped.

I’m so glad that this is so bothering the shit out of them.

If I didn’t know any better, I’d think it was David Hogg who killed 17 innocent teenagers.

But you have a bunch of people who are on the fence - and those people can be swayed by asshole behavior - on either side of an argument.

And its nice that the far right is pushing so many buttons at once in terms of exposing themselves as a bunch of hypocritical assholes as long as they get what they want…Willing to make excuses Trump’s sexual misadventures, willing to attack a bunch of kids who survived a school shooting, supporting deporting war veterans…there is something in there for everyone - except that 25% - to recognize as “just wrong.”

It’s called keeping your options open.

As a generation, we Boomers were never nearly as liberal as our one-time reputation. It was just that the kids protesting the war or being hippies in the Haight were the ones who got all the ink.

But with both the millennials and the post-millennial generation that doesn’t seem to have a name yet, the polling numbers I’ve seen all say that these generations are far more liberal than their predecessors. Yeah, they’ll have their darker side too, but it won’t be much of a voting bloc.

Has Norm MacDonald weighed in?

Remember how effective Ted Koppel had been back in the day in his interviews by simply giving his subjects enough rope to hang themselves with?

25% may be an underestimate, after all Trump’s approval floor seems to be in the lower 30’s. There are going to be those who will believe in PizzaGate and that Trump is crushing child sex slavery trafficking rings run by Deep State Democratic operatives pretty much no matter what. Realize not only that 38% of Americans " believe that God created humans in their present form at some time within the last 10,000 years or so", but that that number is an improvement, “a new low”!

But these jerks bullying kids who have been victims and are both articulate and will not be cowered by their bullying only to have to back down like bullies often do when the crowd of onlookers stand up and say that their behavior is not to be tolerated (instead of joining in) - it shows much of significance to many others.

Rational arguments are one thing but politics is often about choosing which group you want to and can self-identify with. Few outside of that low 30s base, including many those who voted for Trump and even still approve of him, want to identify with these people, they’d rather identify with those folk, otherwise normal except for having been victims, who stand up to them.

yes but that was back when news & current events had hosts and guests speaking to each other. Nowadays all they do is go in front of a camera and try to shout each other down.

Right. Nixon made a whole campaign out of it, the Silent Majority, and it was a rousing success.

(Also, Nixon was nowhere near as terminally unpopular or visibly crazy as his modern pop culture image paints him. We’ve compressed the man into the last few days of his second term, when he was talking to portraits and the Joint Chiefs had unofficially decided that he didn’t have the nuclear football anymore.)

It’s due in part to changes the Boomers helped bring about, for good and bad (good: helping to pass the Civil Rights Acts, bad: crashing the economy by destroying the safety nets and regulatory structures during the Reagan Era), and it’s due to demographic shifts, in that Hispanic and Black people aren’t going to want to vote with the Grand Old White People’s Party.

What, and leave geniuses like these to run the world?

Look, every generation wants the previous generation to get out of the way. And they do, sooner or later. I’m already at the age where the marketers don’t want me. To the next generation, I echo what the guy said to the Michael J. Fox’s character in “Secret of My Success”: “You got your foot in the door. What you do on this side is up to you.” Meaning, it’s your world now. The pressure’s on your generation. You can make it better, or you can blow it up. It’s up to you.

To the point of the thread, Frank Stallone is a never was. He should shove his apology up his ass and just go away.

Plus the increase in kids who have multiple racial identities, the increase of diversity in schools where white kids get the opportunity to see black kids who aren’t stereotypes, increased populations of racial minorities that aren’t black or Hispanic (Asians, including East Asians, Middle Easterners, etc.). The expectation by women that they will be treated as equals and with respect (and the anger of women who discover that war isn’t quite won yet - five years ago there was a huge “I’m not a feminist” thing with young women. There is a LOT less of that now that young women are seeing more overt sexism again). The increased cultural acceptance and visability of GLBT (et.al.) people.

The mainstream GOP has been well aware that they will loose the demographic shift battle for a decade, but the elements of that party who were sexist, racist, and homophobic have doubled down.

I think I saw him over yonder, dressed in a giant penis costume, consulting on the issue with Dennis Miller.

I fully agree with your entire post, and I could probably expand on it at essay length, but I want to talk about this specific point: This is going to see-saw back and forth for decades, because there are big underlying rifts in the Left about what tactics to use and what certain movements are even about, in terms of things like equity versus equality and, at a more fundamental level, rights-based individual liberties versus society-based group entitlements, and, despite what some on the Left seem to think, the more Liberal individualist rights-based group is not going to cede the field. There’s already a cogent pushback against the perceived splintering of sexual identity groups (aromantic/demisexual/etc.) and it isn’t coming from the “I IDENTIFY AS AN ATTACK HELICOPTER LOLOLOL” Alt-Right yahoos.

Someone needs to put THAT motherfucker DOWN.

Well then it’s settled, since we all should take our advice from a fucking traitor.

I’m sure it was oh so sincere. NOT!

Someone should punch him out.

Heh. Quoth Judd Apatow: “We don’t have to worry about a Frank Stallone boycott – that started in the late Seventies.”

hey now, he was in Hudson Hawk.

… I’m… I’m not sure that changes anything…
