This isn’t making my bad feeling any better. 
As a non-swearing (well, mostly), non-arguing, non-confrontational, well-behaved (well, mostly) Pitizen, I have loved the Pit in the past, and don’t particularly want to see it lose the edge that made it the funniest and most entertaining part of these boards.
I’m sure the Pit will stay the same–you can still swear, argue, confront, behave atrociously to your heart’s content.
It’s just that under the new rules, sometimes you’ll get banned for it, that’s all.

Giraffe’s action gives validation to my thoughts and feelings about the Pit lately.
It took a few seconds for the NOOOO!!! to sink in that now things won’t go back to how they were, which is how I liked it.
Giraffe, thanks for making this a fun place for me to hang out. And thanks for not becoming a drone to other people’s wishes. That would have been really confusing.
Well damn–I spend a day away from the boards for the first time in months, and I come back to this.
Giraffe, there’s nothing for me to add that hasn’t already been said. I admired you as a mod–you were the absolute best. I respect your dedication to your principles. I enjoy you as a poster, and hope to continue to do so.
And, I like many others, am concerned about what the future may hold for the SDMB.
I hadn’t checked in on the boards in about a week, and yesterday I thought, “Man, I bet something is blowing up over there.” I tune in to find this. The suckage.

I haven’t been following the drama with Ed and the pit, and I have to ask what he has in mind for it. What, is he going to clean up the language? Are we not going to be allowed to insult idiot basement dwellers who are are truly begging for it? Is the forum going to be turned into the Care Bears and Daffodills forum? And is that why Giraffe’s quitting?
What in God’s name is coming down the pike?

You’ve performed the almost impossible: moderating the Pit and enforcing the rules, yet retaining the affection and respect of all the members. You’ll be a damned hard act to follow.
Just adding to the chorus. You were my favorite moderator. The spots had nothing to do with it, regardless of what others say. It’s who you are as an ungulate that really commands my respect.

Without detracting from Giraffe, we still have plenty of fine moderators and administrators, so I won’t join the chorus of wer’re all going to hell in a handbasket.
And I would hope there is a chance that Giraffe may one day be back as a mod.
