Thanks to you both.
Both Giraffe and Fluiddruid! It’s a massacre. I’m more a pit lurker that poster, but I’ll say that You have both done an excellent job here; this place will most definitely not be the same anymore.
I completely agree. But - for **Ed **to listen, he’s got got to know what the customers are saying. So, what do you all want?
Thanks to the two former moderators of this forum.
**Ed **'s approach to change here reminds me (because it’s something my boss says often) of a high jump competition: he hasn’t made a jump yet and keeps asking for the bar to be raised a bit higher. The other participants are finishing up and the pressure’s building. Pretty soon it’ll be gold medal or spectacular failure time.
Me? No rules in the Pit, like Amnesia Weekend. Failing that, just please don’t do the thing that made Giraffe and fluiddruid resign, whatever it is.
Oh, and quit it with the power trips and the banning people on a whim and the Red Terror stuff, pretty please?
Hostile Dialect,
Hostile Dialect, Narcissist
Okay, now the TWO best mods have quit over Ed’s plans for moderating the Pit, and he still doesn’t get that this might be a spectacularly bad, dumb, destructive idea.
Do you think he doesn’t care?
Well done Ed! In the 10 years I’ve been on this board, I’ve yet to see such a splendid board policy enacted so thoroughly, with such perfect execution and so little fallout.
Giraffe and fluiddruid, thanks for contributing your time and oeffort to the moderation of the board.
Damn, and you’re one of the ones I deemed “pretty good.” Well, maybe OK.
Good luck to you.
Can I just add my voice to the growing chorus, and continue the run of fulsome praise? I think you’ve both been excellent mods, with humour, wit and charm. I’m not a big poster in the Pit, but I find it difficult to see how moderating to this standard could be improved on. Sorry to hear you’re stepping down, but kudos for sticking to your principles.
I’m sorry to see you go too, fluiddruid. You did an excellent job, as evidenced by the fact that you were barely noticed.
Looks grim…
Without knowing what’s in the offing, I’ve no advice for Ed, other than: Pay attention to the attrition. You’re down by 2/3 - I personally would hesitate to make any policy changes until I’d recruited some reenforcements, in similar circumstances.
Ed, stop putzing around with the SDMB, and put your energies toward saving the Reader. Using this place as a refuge from some very unfortunate employment circumstances will not help in the long run.
Sorry/glad to see you go/stay, Giraffe. You wuz allright as a mod.
Since you didn’t die or anything, I’ll go easy on the syrupy-assed stuff…
ETA: oh, same goes for fluiddruid…
If it’s syrupy-assed, you should definitely go easy. Syrup is a terrible lubricant.
“Lubricant,” you say? Think again . . .
This is terrible news. I know I’ve butted heads with you, but I respect and appreciate the job you have done. I could never do it.
He is the very model of a modern major moderator?
And now **fluiddruid **(whom I did not realize WAS a mod–how’s that for subtle moderating?)
I figure we’ll know whatever we’re supposed to know when we’re supposed to know it (IOW, I refuse to panic or get all angsty here), but I do have to say that none of this seems to bode well.
Call me fatalistic, but perhaps we can give Ed a chance? I’m not sure of the new direction or if there even is a new direction, but if anyone were to ask my advice (stop laughing, it’s been known to happen!), I’d counsel prudent evaluation and enacting any changes slowly over time. Then again, there is that old maxim: if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it…
$&(@#@%&%^!!!
Does this qualify as the Saint Valentine’s weekend massacre in the Pit?
Oy. Anything coming from On-High about all this any time soon?
You were an excellent mod, Giraffe. I now regret that we never had a chance for you to issue me any warnings. Could’ve been good times.
