Doc, I’m the OP of that thread, and to be honest, I didn’t find it offensive - I can see why some would, but I got a chuckle out of part of it. Maybe I’m sick and twisted and shouldn’t have children if I find it funny, but I did. I took it as a joke.
So feel free to apologize to those you offended, but know that if I ever do have a kid and bring it to a Dopefest, you’ll be the first one I give the kid to play with - (of course, depending on how much I enjoy or don’t enjoy being a mother, you may get the kid longer than expected, but don’t let that deter you:D).

As I see it, there were only two ways to make this joke effectively. The short, “For breakfast.” post or the overly-detailed post you put together. They say the same thing, except yours offers a chance at getting away from the full impact of the rest of the post. I could have lived without the dessert bit. It was gross. Over the top. Rude, given the context. And offensive. And it never pretended to be anything else. So in THAT regard it was a good honest post. I can’t say that I *enjoyed *it, but I don’t think I was *supposed *to. Dark humor doesn’t work that way. I echo the opinions that reacting to it with much more than “ewww…that was just wrong” is just plain silly.
Some folks don’t “get” dark humor, though. And while we may not “get” them, we know they are around and just waiting to be offended–hell, MTV ran disclaimers for* Monty Python *when they were running the series. I’m glad YOU got yelled at for this, because I’m right on your heels along with a few dozen others in making the right post in the wrong thread. I’ll probably be more “sensitive” as a result…for a little while. But only to keep this place liveable. I see no reason to make hypersensitive people “lighten up” if they don’t wanna.
I have 3 small kids, and all your post did was make me remember that I love them. How can THAT be wrong?

That thread was supportive and your post was out of line and over the top. If your post had been in another thread it would have been fine and even funny, in fact, I laughed at first when reading it. However, your humor was inappropriate for that thread, and you need an internal editor to stop you from posting in such a manner in a thread that clearly was not open for child cannibalism material.
I sincerely doubt anyone took it seriously. It was obviously a reference to Swift. No one is going to keep you away from little children. You just need to think more carefully about what is appropriate and what isn’t.
Elysian, that post was clearly inappropriate for this DocCathode love-in. Please govern yourself a little more appropriately.

How did this end up a love-in? I started this thread so people could give me a stern talking to. Seriously.
IMHO his original post was still very disgusting and way over the top. I’ve worked with abused children and I am the mother of a toddler so maybe it hit just a little too close to home for me.
But his apology is very, very classy.
Doc, even though I never posted to the original thread, I thought the humor was over the top (I did, however, recognize it as humor). But the subsequent apology is very, very classy. I will say, though, that even had an entire thread devoted to an apology not been started, I still would have felt safe letting you hang out with my kids at dopefests. Now, of course, depending on which kid we’re talkin’ about, you may not want to hang out with them, but that’s a whole 'nother topic. 
The children’s spinal fluid mixed with Kahlua was a bit much. But I still thought it was funny. Take that whatever way you will.
