So, since being laid off on Feb 3rd, I have been in negotiations with a company to start a new job. The Salary is close to 25% more than what I was being paid at my old job, which makes the nearly 1 hour commute more bearable.
They had agreed to everything, but kept stalling on the start date. Finally they came up with a start date but came in with an offer 5% less than originally agreed. I was tempted to just take it and move on, because it was still a salary increase. But on that same day I got two interviews for other jobs and I decided that I had enough options to take the gamble (and the support of the hiring manager, which is key) and turn them down.
This morning at 7:45 they called me up and made the full offer. I have it in writing too.
And so, gone are the days of sleeping in (OK, I was up at 6:15 today, but still) and the days of watching a movie in the middle of the day.
Obviously there’s some serious job mojo happening around here these days – the line of folks who want to rub Khadaji’s or my head for good luck forms on the right…
Oooh, that’s me! I’m still in the sending-out-resumes stage. Fortunately, I have a job at this point, but I’m trying to move to be with my fiance so I’m applying from 1/2 a country away. I could really use some of that job mojo!
Mr. brown, after three years of unemployment and temporary employment, was hired last September full-time at a biotech here in the bay area. I didn’t post about it then, because I was spooked by the long fruitless job search and didn’t want to jinx the new job. So yes, there’s some job mojo going on, twickster. In your face, you sucky dot-bomb years!
Taxi…I have no idea what you do, but have you looked at United Healthcare? It’s their headquarters, and I’ll bet there’s something for you there (regardless of what you do).
