I Suppose There Should Be A MMP

Awwwww…thank you all for the kind words and sympathy. Since I had the day off, I got on the job search, did the grocery shopping, sent Nelson’s DNA swabs out, and got the oil changed in the car. Now, I’m chilling.

Since I will be starting the new position 3 hours before my usual time, this weekend will be going to bed an hour earlier than the night before each evening.

The games have begun. Sorting the real job opportunities from the scam artists has already started (the one was a for-profit college trolling for folks looking for work). Fortunately, I have enough to pay the bills, even with the pay cut, to hold out until I find the right fit.

Read all, but retained little.

Stay safe and healthy y’all!

Howdy Y’all! We got Sylvia funeralized and I got her ashes plopped down next to her husband’s ashes in the Columbarium. To do so, I had to unscrew the little metal plate over her spot in the Columbarium, open the urn her ashes were in, take out the plastic bag (a plastic bag with a twist tie, seriously!) containin’ her ashes, stuff said bag of Sylvia into a columbarium container, put the plastic lid for the container (must be placed on top of the container and gently tapped onto the container with a hammer to seal the container) plop the container into the spot, replace the metal plate and screw the special screws into the plate with the special tool for doin’ so. I’d try to find images of said special screws and the weird tool, but well, I’m kinda creeped out by the fact that I did that today (again!) so I don’t want to go out and look for what I’ve already seen way to up close and personal today. Six more months until I an no longer church janitor Junior Warden.

MOOOOOOM I’ll play with the color thingy when I’ve got more brain power than I do now. Right now I’m tahred and brain is fried.

Now I shall take myself to the boudoir.

Nitey Nite Y’all!

Evening all. Survived my tour of Miami (they really try to sell you cigars here), the boat trip on Biscayne Bay (where we looked at houses and boats which told you the owners made too damn much money) and the airboat ride in the Everglades (only saw one alligator, but she came within a few feet of the boat). Also dodged thunderstorms, made my bus connections, and in general had a good, if exhausting, day of it…and tomorrow starts at 5am to get where I need to be for the Key West trip…it’s fun, but I’ll be ready to come home (yes, on a plane) Sunday.

Have read all, but frankly don’t haven’t the energy to respond, guess you’ll have to wait for Sunday or the next MMP for me to resume normal communication.

Take care all,

$122 later… We’re fed.

We went to CJ’s Beach House for the first time in a very long while and ate on the deck under the pergola. We split a pound of very tasty peel’n’eat shrimp (that was not overcooked, and we each had an oyster shooter. I had grilled salmon with pesto butter sauce, a salad, and zucchini/red bell pepper/asparagus medley. Mrs. L.A. had fish’n’chips. I had two gin & tonics, and Mrs. L.A. had two gin, tonic, & ice. We’re stuffed. We have leftover shrimp and a piece of fish. I left a double-sawbuck tip.

53 hours into having only nine toenails, I’m getting around pretty well and am mostly just uncomfortable. The closest I come to “pain” is right after I’ve soaked and re-bandaged the toe (which happens twice a day); luckily, it’s well-managed with Tylenol. I’m not very happy with anything touching it other than a Band-Aid, though, so at night I wake up whenever I roll over, accidentally pull a blanket over it, etc. Not having a blanket on it can also cause me to wake up, because my foot will get cold. Two nights of intermittent sleep + two days of discomfort have me a bit grumpy, and I’m glad tomorrow is Saturday. But I know the worst of it will be over in a few days.

Going out for dinner and live jazz with two good friends tomorrow night will help.

(I only have to drive 10 minutes to their house, then I’ll ride with them to DC.)

\color{blue}{\text{thanks!! :)}}

unknown, you might try cutting the toes out of an odd sock to leave your tootsie out but cover the rest of your foot.

swampy, may you have very few more interring of ashes for the duration of your junior warden gig.

The ragweed sucks right now. I have a headfull of crap and some gunk in my chest (TMI, I know) and my eyes are itching like crazy. Taking allergy drugs, sucking on cough drops and doing the swab / rub of vaporub on a regular basis.

I finished up the book I was reading this morning and started a Sue Henry Maxie McNabb and Stretch one while I was waiting for the oil to get changed this afternoon. I can see that I’m going to have to work out a new housekeeping schedule while I’m working 4 10 hour days. I think that Fridays will be the day for housework, laundry and grocery shopping. Currently, I have a different chore for every evening, but with two hours more away from home during the irkweek, I can’t see that happening, or at least not right away.

I have incontrovertibly proven I can’t do this fancy color thing. Darn, I would have enjoyed it but my tech skills are pathetic.

Cheers :clinking_glasses: all!

One of (us! One of us! One of us!

Also, my sports teams are driving me to drink right now

Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN ‘Tis 74 Amurrkin out and foggy with a predicted high of 94 and mostly N.O.S. for the day. Not a whole lot doin’ on the agenda for the day which is fine by me. I foresee some quality cee-mint pond time, however. Sup shall be via forage as we have plenty of sammich makin’s, chips, etc. Oh and we still don’t have a dryer. It was supposed to have come in yestiddy but did not. I was told maybe by next Firday. My patience with Lowe’s is very thin at the moment.

Now I need more caffeine and to feed rumbly tummy. Then, onward into the day! Rah,

Happy Sattidy Y’all!

All you have to do is get rid of the x next to the $ and it will work. Really!

It’s an amazing 62° this morning, but it won’t last. Then again, it is summer, but such a tease!! We’re heading out to breakfast in a bit - CB doesn’t open till 7. Then home for FCD to go back to work and for me to do some chores. Higgs, for some stupid reason, likes licking the throw pillows on the couch - I’m going to toss them all in the wash. And I think I’ll have enough towels to do a load, and while everything is sloshing in the washer, I’ll tread the mill. Multi-tasking!

Last night I had the weirdest of weird dreams. FCD wanted a Chevette. FYI, the link is the one we had - a dark \color{blue}{\text{blue}} '79 Chevette. Not the actual one, tho - we abused ours hauling stuff and it barely limped to the lot where we got a sympathy trade-in of $200! Anyway, the weird part is Mr. Car Guy wanting one of those. He got a chuckle when I told him.

Anyway, Happy Saturday!!

Morning, mumpers! It’s finally cooled down a bit here so the house is much more comfortable today. Only 19C/65F with a predicted high of 71F and a 40% chance of rain. That looks good to me.

I had my eye test yesterday and the guy said my close vision is pretty much unchanged but my distance vision is a bit worse than it was. He said I could get specs for it if I thought it would help but he said it would be useful for things like watching football or tennis (not interested in either of those) and reading subtitles. I’m ok with subtitles at the moment so I’ll leave things as they are and see how I get on.

Moooom much as I like the idea of encolouration, it’s a bit of a faff!

Red sorry about the job woes, that does suck. Here’s hoping you find something better very soon.

I has no plans for today, I cancelled my gym classes for this morning because I’ve pulled something in my back and it hurts so I need to give it time to heal before I do anything too strenuous. Might do the vacuuming instead, I’ll see how I feel later. Other than that, I’ll be on the sofa with a good book and a strong cup of tea.

Good morning!

Up, caffeinating, a load of towels in the wash, dog walked, breakfasted and fixing to do KP. Not a lot on the agenda today, but will hit the hay early to help reset my internal clock.

Stay safe and healthy y’all!

Good morning everyone. It’s a nice cool morning here and I “slept in” until 5:15 today. Temps are supposed to top out around 80 degrees today, but we’ll see.

In addition to all the other things I talked about doing yesterday, I now have to spray my huge plant on the front porch with Neem oil. It seems caterpillars have infested it. I couldn’t figure out what the hell was going on with it. I saw tiny black spots all over the leaves and thought it was some kind of bug infestation, so I doused it with insecticide soap. I was on my third try with insecticide soap and while I was turning up the leaves to douse it, I found a green caterpillar, and then another, and then another, and so on and so forth. This plant is HUGE and the caterpillars are hard to find because they perfectly match the leaves, so picking them off by hand is not an option because it would take forever. Hence, the Neem oil. Fingers crossed that it works. I was really proud of the plant until those little bastages showed up and their infestation shows. All the blooms have dropped and there are holes in lots of the leaves.

I keep trying to talk my stubborn-assed husband into going to the doctor, but he’s doing the typical man thing and ignoring it. He nods his head in agreement when we discuss the problems and states “maybe you’re right” but never follows through. I shouldn’t be surprised, but it’s really impacting his ability to sleep and that’s dangerous.

I need to tidy up the kitchen in a bit, and I should scrub the floor so I don’t have to worry about it tomorrow morning before the grandkids show up.

We had a nice breakfast, seated in our favorite server’s section. It was slow early so we got to chat with her a bit. I just put a load of towels out on the lines and the throw pillows are in the washer. And I ordered 3 tons of pellets, which will be delivered on Moanday! Tomorrow I’ll be clearing a section of the garage so they can be stacked and I’ll move the few remaining bags to the shop for the stove out there. I figure since we’ll have just over 3 tons of pellets, it’ll be a record warm winter… :stuck_out_tongue:

Taters - I know what you mean about men and doctors. It took a major scare to get FCD to move, and now he’s figured out what needs to be done. We’ll see how he does with physical therapy after the knees.

It’s clouded over, but it’s not supposed to rain. Of course, with all the towels out on the line, you just know what will happen… Fingers crossed.

The FUBAR Fairy called in, so we got out early. Also I learned what they call the new hires. “Blueberries”.

Afternoon, all!

It’s just after 12:30pm ET, and I’m half-listening to one of the online modules that are required for my upcoming bariatric surgery. The topic of this one is “addiction transfer and food addiction.” The presenter has a pleasant enough voice, but she has a type of southern accent that gets on my nerves just a little bit (most southern accents are just fine, but one or two of them bother me for some reason). It’s distracting. But she isn’t saying much that isn’t on her slides, so I can just click over to that tab every now and then and get the gist.

I’m going to NYC for a long weekend in mid-September to celebrate my 50th birthday, and the Yankees game tickets were arranged this morning! I can’t wait!

Next up will be showering and figuring out some lunch. I’m already looking forward to the beef enchiladas I’m planning to order for dinner tonight, so I don’t want to eat a lot now. Maybe I’ll have some Cheerios and a yogurt (not in the same bowl!).

nonacetone, I meant to acknowledge/reply to this sooner (sorry!):

Such a simple/obvious fix!! Thank you! For now I am still finger-sticking, but I have a new sensor sitting on the shelf and if/when I feel like trying another one I’ll keep those ideas in mind. And yeah, the cost is the same for me, too. It’s crazy how expensive some medications/tools are, even with insurance. I know that I’ll have other costs after the surgery (supplements, etc.), but I’m looking forward to never having to pay for some of this stuff again.

Thanks! I thought about that, but I knew the worst of it would only last a few days so I figured I’d tough it out. Last night I slept much better, plus I let myself sleep in (i.e., I went back to bed after I got up to pee). It means I’m a bit “behind” today, but I think it was worth it.

\color{red}{\text{Red}}, There are help wanted signs all over the place around here. If it’s the same there, it should make your job-hunting efforts a little easier. Unfortunately a lot of employers haven’t figured out people are leaving their employ for reasons.

Mom, A \color{blue}{\text{Chevette}}? Really?
I’ve discovered that if you put something, like a comma or question mark after your coloration it puts a space there. Weird. Also, trying to embolden your colored word doesn’t seem to work.
Oh well. Can’t hve everything I guess.

Yeah, I’ve been the same way for the last 40 years or so.

Did I tell you all that when we bought this house the washer and dryer were in the bedroom? Well, the washer still is, because we can’t get it down the steps by ourselves. We’re old, you know.
Yeah. It’s been a big shock to me also.
Anyway, at one time they were obviously in the basement, but they tore all that stuff out. We wanted them put back there, for now anyway. So Toosday some plumbers came and re-plumbed the appropriate plumbing, and yesterday an electrician came and installed the appropriate electron-delivery devices. We moved the dryer down there after he left. That involved loading it onto a handtruck, bouncing it, and said handtruck, down the front stairs, around to the back of the house to the basement doors, and into the basement.
After that, we decided that the washing machine, which is considerably heavier, could wait until we have some help.

Hmmm. I know there was more I wanted to comment on/say, but I forgot.

Except to say, Trader Joe’s tamales are really, really good!

Y’all be careful out there.

Oh, you folks talkng about mystery books; I suppose you’ve all read the Tony Hillerman books about the Navajo tribal policemen Joe Leaphorn and Jim Chee? After Hillerman’s death his daughter has written a few books featuring the same characters that are also pretty good.

Saturday hashbrowns, eggs, and bacon have been consumed, dishes are in the dishwasher, and frying pans and spatula have been washed. Also I parcelled out the five pounds of bacon and put it in the freezer.

I voted. Non-partisan County Councilmember. (I voted the Progressive guy.) I voted against yet another tax levy. And that’s all that was on the ballot. I’ll get it in the mail today or Monday.

I ordered more groceries, as I forgot some items, some of them large (like boxes of trash bags), and they won’t all fit in the babushka cart. One item I wanted was distilled water, and they’re out, so I guess I do without. They had purified water, but since that contains minerals, it won’t work.

My friend’s father died of COVID yesterday. He was a wealthy businessman in a country where the vaccine rollout has been slow. Someone who’d been sick went to his birthday party a few weeks ago–didn’t want to miss it and didn’t mask up. Lethal stupidity.

There’s a criminal investigation in the district where I used to teach. What’s funny is that I knew about it sooner and in more detail than people who still work there. I guess people figure when someone is 800 miles away, it’s pretty safe to tell them stuff.

\color{green}{\text{swampy}} , I hope your drier arrives sooner than Lowe’s is now telling you. Do you have a clothesline? I miss hanging out clothes. I found it very calming, plus they smell good, and I didn’t have to worry about them wrinkling if I didn’t take them down right away.

\color{tan}{\text{taters}}, so sorry you’re down to nine toenails. I knew someone who fashioned a little cage for his injured toe out of some kind of metal mesh, but I didn’t think to ask how he did it or where he got the mesh.

\color{red}{\text{red}}, when I worked 4 10’s (in another life), I did all the shopping and cleaning on Fridays. I liked it, though I was tired to start and exhausted by nightfall. Still, a weekend free and clear! :crossed_fingers: for the job search!

\color{brown}{\text{doggio}}, why “blueberry”?

You have confirmed a long suspicion of mine.

Pourquoi?

Today already sucks, but onwards. I’ve got some biscuits in the oven, so the ravenous hordes will get fed. Other than that, my plans include cowering in the dark and possibly starting a thread about how to make my house safe from light.
