FCD needed a break so we went to the local ice cream place and got a “flight” - 6 scoops in a special serving tray. The scoops were smaller than their usual servings, but it was a good way to sample several flavors. Next time we go, I’m getting a cone. Support local businesses!! Then we stopped at an Amish stand for corn, cantaloupe, and peaches.
He’s napping now and I’m going to read as soon as I finish posting. Anna Pigeon is about to figure out who dunnit and that who will try to kill her, if past books are any indication!
I’m all showered and fed and on the couch with my foot up and my doggy next to me, watching — don’t be shocked — Ambulance. I’ve watched all of the available UK episodes, so now I’m on to the Australian version.
Thanks! It’s for the best, though: the nail was hopelessly infected, and had become painful. I’d already had it removed once, two years ago, but the doc and I decided to let it grow back in case it might sort itself out. This time, though, it’s gone for good.
Ha! I think if my toe were broken or something I might look into protection for it, but I’m doing alright with just a Band-Aid. I’m grateful that I already had open-toe slippers that fasten with velcro across the top of the foot.
Howdy Y’all! I decided to brave the laundromat this mornin’ after my post. I was afraid with it bein’ Sattidy the place would be crowded. However, whilst there, just two other people showed up. One washed some stuff and left and the other dried some stuff and left. I washed the sheets and whites at da cave so those went in the dryer. I washed and dried a load of misc. colored stuff. All in all I was there just over an hour and a half. I even got a surprise while there. OYKW went to MickeyD’s and brought me a bacon, aig, and cheese bizkit and a diet Coke! Guess I will have to keep him around a little while longer cause of that.
Morning, all. Finally got up the drive to go into the AT&T store and upgrade my phone. Decided to just get it over with and went with the 12 and an iWatch. Actually got 400 dollars for my trade-in as well. Have to wait a few for the watch, since the only one they had today was not the right model and \color{pink}{\text{pink.}}
Tonight is the Third Annual Thursday Night Drinking & Philosophical Society’s IPA Contest. Basically a bunch of drunks & teachers (sorry for the redundancy) sitting around critiquing local beers and eating pizza. But bragging rights go to whomever brought the highest scoring beer, so I’m hoping my selection from Brouwerij West does well.
And I can confirm it too. As a paralegal picked up a few client’s remains. Yep, a heavyweight plastic bag about the size of a bread bag, closed with a thick twisty tie, all in a small brown cardboard box. One of those stayed in the trunk of my car for years til the office figured out what to do with them.
bumba, those signs are here too. I am limited to something that doesn’t require being on my feet all day or lifting anything >20# and also doesn’t require an associate degree. I realize that a lot of places will put the weight thingy in the description to discourage old people / women from applying, but it is, nonetheless, there.
Thanks for the head’s up about the Tony Hillerman mysteries. I read most of them back in the day and liked the characters, so I’ll look for the ones his daughter wrote.
I’m sorry about your friend’s father nellie. You did make me wonder if the country that was slow to vaccinate was the US though.
Got the laundry done, carried some empty cartons from da Jungle out to the dumpster and picked up supper from the cheap Chinese place down the street (not authentic in any way, but GFS takeout. House special soup and a roast pork aigroll, all for about $8 with a tip.).
Hitting the hay @ 2000 tonight so’s I can hit the hay @ 1900 tomorrow . Oy, I’m beginning to eat and go to bed at the same time as really old people.
Brisket was smoked successfully. And it was totally worth it. Mom is coming by with cornbread and Strawberry spinach salad soon and we shall eat a buttload of food, then make a Dutch baby for dessert. I’ve got the loose pants on.
I just got back from a friend’s lake house party. In past years this has been an all day event, with waaay too much consumption of boozes. I lasted 4 hours before the “being with people” got too exhausting.
I spent about three and a half hours renting a log splitter, splitting logs, scratching the hell out of the Jeep, and returning the log splitter. My clothes and jacket were soaked in sweat. (It’s warm, but I wear a jacket because I’m always banging myself up when I work in the yard.)
I made egg salad yesterday: hard-boiled eggs, mayonnaise, chives, and dill. Had a small sanger for dinner, plus the leftover peel-and-eat shrimp from last night. (Mrs. L.A. had her leftover fish.)
Having some brisket and fried onions before bed. The sun is finally setting at a reasonable hour (daylight until 10 p.m. and starting by 5:30 am was just a bit much) but I still can let the cats out for a bit when I get off work.
Have a good night, y’all. I haven’t been sleeping well lately - let’s hope I’m tired enough to just conk out tonight!
Had some Ranch Water for National Tequila Day, and making Asian BBQ stirfry.
New Hires get a blue vest(with reflective stripes and “INSIDE ONLY” on the back) for their 1st 30 days. Which most of them don’t make, unless they are a Zen Masochist like me.
Is there some holiday I forgot about? Reading a bit before bed, and I gradually became aware of intermittent thumping sounds. Switched off Coolio and sure enough … fireworks!
A steady, rather professional looking stream, too. What’s up with that?
I would try to think fast on my feet and mumble something like ….”um, that is some, ah, ash. I’m gonna try to make homemade soap for Old Pioneer Days”. Now both would be true, just not in connection to each other. Homemade soap needs to be made with glycerine and goats milk, not old reprobate ashes, although I do exhort my kids to pitch mine into the nearest compost pile. Nothing like ol’ Boo to liven everything up on a swinging Saturday evening.
Carry on without me, or better yet, in spite of me.
The oddest thing happened. I was sitting on the balcony of my second-floor apartment, soaking up birdsong from the woods behind my place, when a squirrel poked his head under my railing. I’ve been here five years, and no squirrel has ever ventured thus. He look startled to see me. I said, “Hello,” and he panicked, turned, and clung to the balcony edge with just his tail sticking up, obviously thinking, “Holy sh_t, it’s a long way down there!” before finally jumping. A squirrelly friend joined him, so I think it was a double-dog dare.
We need to get you a tee shirt that says “Zen Masochist.”
It’s National Tequila Day! Also National Cousins Day, Tell an Old Joke Day, Cowboy Day, and Thermal Engineer Day. And in Utah, it’s Pioneer Day. I have not-so-fond memories of having a rather painful emergency following the last corneal transplant in Salt Lake and being unable to get to the hospital because everything was shut down. Other than that, Pioneer Day is screamingly wholesome fun!
Hope you’re doing OK, \color{blue}{\text{shoe}}. What’s the Feel-O-Meter on these days?
Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN ‘Tis 71 Amurrkin out and clear (moony?) with a predicted high of 94 and N.O.S. for the day. The major item on today’s agenda is deheathenization. I shall serve as non-cannibal Lector and Chalice Bearer this mornin’. I foresee some quality cee-mint pond time this afternoon as well. Sup shall be burgers 'n fixin’s and fries. Should be a nice day all around.
Now I need more caffeine and to feed rumbly tummy. Then purtification for deheathenization must commence.
