I turned on avatars today.

Here, here. Well said Tuba.

For the record, I like the Sultan’stheme skin, the highlighting bug notwithstanding. It is superior to the standard theme on a phone. I have avatars turned off, so that doesn’t bother me. Please keep it as an option, even if new themes are developed.

Want to try to present working options to people if we can. Don’t want to take anything away that you use, just make using it better.

Seconded.

And thirded, for all that’s worth. I happily paid for the place when it was run by Ed, and I’ll happily pay for the TubaDiva regime.

I am complaining.

I am acknowledging you’re complaining.

Thank you for the complaint.

Just a quick comment FTR. There was no intent to bash Ed in any way and I’m sorry the comment came across that way. It was just a tongue-in-cheek reference to the fact that the addition of the new theme was, in fact, controversial, and initially had a lot of cosmetic and some functional issues, which arose from the third-party source and were not the fault of anyone here. I was involved in reporting some of the issues and seeing the worst of them get quickly resolved, and also pre-testing the dual-theme scheme that Ed quickly implemented. Still, some issues remain.

So just clarifying that my winky-smilie decorated comment was just a semi-humorous attempt to say that, while apparently some folks like the new theme, others like me switched back to the original and never really saw the point of the whole venture, though I understand it improved Google rankings.

I will now crawl back into my hole and speak no more of the matter. And thanks muchly for the avatars!

Is that the old TSR Wizard Logo?

Not taken badly, not at all.

But like I said, there’s a lot about the history of TSD that maybe people don’t know and some of that did involve the contributions Ed Zotti made over the years.

Not everyone has had the benefit that I have had just being on the scene. And I will not say that Ed was perfect; he had his flaws and made his mistakes, just like the rest of us.

I took this opportunity to give you, like Paul Harvey used to say, “The REST of the story.”

Whatever you think of him, I strive to do well coming after him, to make this place better if I can, to make your experience better, to keep on keeping on. What happened earlier is all behind us now; what we do going forward is what pertains. And we can’t waste a moment on being judgmental if instead we can spend that time productively on making this place your good place. That’s what I’m about here. I bet you are too. I’m not in this alone and with your support we can make these good things happen.

Thanks.

Does it matter to Google rankings what theme users pick? Because i prefer the old theme, but I’d be willing to switch back to the new one if it helps the site.

I don’t think so. The default is what the Google spiders find and report, afaik.

I guess this should go in the suggestions thread but I’ll say it here: Tuba, you should look for some free mobile friendly skins and toss them in the drop down menu. There’s gotta be one out there better than this one and I’m sure you would get quick feedback on which one might be a better default.

Google won’t be logged in, so it shouldn’t matter.

Might be so; I don’t know enough about this yet to make an educated judgment. I’m willing to be shown some links to other places that might have this, though, and more than willing to see what I can do to improve your experience.

So please help dispel my ignorance, and thank you.

Speaking of Google …

I’ve noticed lately that doing a Google search for a thread often misses threads.

Used to work quite well, now not so much.

Not sure what’s going on. Who knows if it’s a theme thing or what?

Good question. I’ll see if I can get some information on that.

Not likely to be a theme thing. Many boards have more than one theme and Google’s spiders handle that. I assume they just use the default.

As predicted, so shall it come to pass.

I just got a warning for a Pulitzer Prize winning, world famous and ibiquitous image being ‘inappropriate’.

I wanna see it!

So, no more avatars for you? I liked all your edgy avatars. Such a shame. I feel robbed.
