We lost seven adventurers who were only 15 minutes from home.
My husband’s back is completely screwed up.
Give me your cheerful, inspiring stories…I want to hear how your daughter took her first steps. How you finally got that splinter out of your finger that’s been bugging you for a week. How you dumped your loser boyfriend. How you proposed to your girlfriend and how she started crying with joy.
I want to hear about how you got a promotion at work…how the slack ass cow-orker finally got shown the door, how your tax refund came just in time to fix your car.
My parrot was just perching up near the window and glared at the starlings in the tree outside and told them “Nooooo!” which cracked me up.
The weather is beautiful here. The house finches are coming back and babbling and it’s a big finch love-fest out there.
I found out this weekend that I got a Fulbright “recommend” so I’'m still in the running for a fellowship for next year.
It’s February, and that much closer to Spring in places where it matters.
Yesterday I went running and for the first time since June of last year my ankle (formerly sprained) didn’t hurt, and I didn’t feel scared that I was going to wreck it again. capybara, congrats on the fellowship!
ivylass, think of it this way: For the first time ever, an anti-war movement is building up momentum before the war has started (officially). That’s some cause for celebration, at least. Okay, not celebration. But you know what I mean.
I finally got around to putting together some new weapons for fighting in the SCA this weekend. I mad a pike, a glaive, a halberd, a Danish axe, a great sword and a broad sword. I also painted my household’s device on my shield and got my armor cleaned up for a Tournament of Chivalry this weekend.
… which probably isn’t going to sound as cool as I originally thought, given the OP. My apologies. The idea was, I just spent the weekend making some cool stuff I get to use in one of my hobbies, and I’ve been waiting a long time to make them… sorry about that…
I know how you feel Ethilrist, we got our living room re-arranged, and I transplanted a night-blooming jasmine. I also fixed a belt loop on my daughter’s jeans.
Accomplishments are nice, aren’t they, even if they’re silly little chores we finally get cleared.
SCA? My SIL and her husband used to re-enact English Civil War stuff, as well as invasions by the Spanish up in St. Augustine. She had a big shiny helmet too.
My car died this morning as I was in the right turn lane with about 50 commuters behind me. Only about 20 disgusted folks late for work had to drive around me before it miraculously started back up again, allowing me to come in without a tow or shop bill. Honestly, I couldn’t have been any happier.
My dog is being a very good student of Spanish. She didn’t obey any of our commands (in English) before, so I thought that a new set might help. Being a Spanish student, I thought that I might as well teach my dog, too. Now, she will sientate (sit), ven aqui (come here), quedate (stay), and estrechate la pata (shake paws). The really cute part is that she even shakes hands like a little princess. She doesn’t really shake, per se…she holds out her paw like she’s waiting for someone to bend down and kiss it. I’m a very proud human! That little story probably amused no one but myself, but I think it’s cute!
My daughter made the Dean’s list in college again. She goes to school full time, works part time AND does volunteer work. She has dyslexia, and when she was in grade school I took her to a tutor three times a week, when it was hard to afford both the money and the time…but she keeps making the honor roll now. And she works in a book shop, and loves to read. She’ll graduate from college after this summer session, with honors.
I’m sitting here with a purring cat on my lap (pls. excuse the typos I don’t correct, he’s a big 'un), having taken the day off work despite the fact that it’s way, way, way too busy to take a day off. I spent the morning here reading the boards because I had a noon dentist appt. to get three cavities filled – I am really, really phobic about the dentist so this is a big deal. Got to the dentist right on time, then spent half an hour in the waiting room kneading my squeezy ball and trying to read and then another 15 minutes in the chair while they got the xrays together. The dentist looked at the xrays and said “You have three cavities” (duh!) “make an appt. and I’ll fill them.” Yo doc! That’s what I’m here for! “I’m too busy, I can’t do it today, your chart says exam.”
Go out, tell the desk girl, she says “Well, it does say to do it today, but he’s the dentist, so…” So I’m pretty p-oed about this, and think, well, it’s only 1:00, I could go do a half day at work…
…and I decided to come home and just fart around instead. Watered the plants, went out and sat in the sun for half an hour (it was a balmy 48 after several weeks of nothing above freezing), came in, curled up and read for a while, then took a two-hour nap.
ivylass, I’ve not heard of Clannad, but im in the process of downloading some of their songs right now! Most of the Celtic music I know comes from my grandma - she was born in Ireland and listens to a lot of the very traditional Irish folk music and such.
So I’m not familiar with many Celtic groups (besides Enya! :), any suggestions for some good listening?
One of the guys in the band played this “pennywhistle”, it was like a gold recorder with a green mouthpiece…anyway, I have one that my grandma brought back from Ireland and I forgot I had until I saw the guy playing it. He had a really cool Irish accent too!
Well, I’m on track to finally graduate with the geek special (most likely with distinction): CompSci/Math, I just have one more paper to get signed and sent over to one of the other departments.
The kitchen redecorating is going well, with perhaps one or two more coats of sealer being needed on the hardware and cabinets. We will no longer have cabinets that look like someone used diluted tobacco tar for a finish!
Hopefully by the end of this month I’ll have another bit of good news to share: I applied for a scholarship (at the Master’s level), and they’re apparently going to notify somewhere around the 25th. crosses fingers
It’s summer over hers. And for once Auckland gets baking-hot weather without humidity! Also I’ve finaly got a (temporary) job which willl tide me over till uni starts again.
Also we finally got a soundcard with our new swift and sleek computer, so I’ve been downloading all sorts of music I can’t afford to buy.
I’m pretty dam happy right now, how 'bout you?
