I cleaned. I gave Alex Catt a bath. I made lunch. Watching handegg.
Sour cream, mayonnaise, lime juice, garlic powder, Sriracha. We now have fish taco sauce. I got a couple of fresh rock fish filets and a head of cabbage at the store. Fish tacos tonight.
I slept 11 hours undisturbed by the detector b*itch. Oh, my! And on a Sunday, too! But the cold, utterly detachd way she kept repeating “fire” was not endearing. It’s smoky out there, and the WPTB extended the smoky forecast 24 hours. I was counting on clear skies because I have to walk a mile to the pharmacy to get (IRONY ALERT) asthma medicine. No buses go near the pharm/supermarket. I’ll wear an N095 mask and use lots of eyedrops. Should be fine. I have very mild asthma; the med is mostly for the itchies.
Sari, I love pitties, but an un-neutered one in a dog park sounds like trouble. Also, I’d expect dogs named Urban and Rocky to be scrappers. ![]()
As for the rest, you have LOTS of reasons to be cranky: I don’t get why a beneficiary has to deal with the retirement check. That’s the executor’s job. Also, Maryland has an inheritance tax? That stinks. And I hope your niece didn’t spend the deposited $$. And that client sounds creepy. Can you report his repeated attempts to get in your queue? And WTF is up with an ortho doc who doesn’t approve handicapped placards? They’re the very docs who SHOULD do so. I don’t get it.
Whew! How could you NOT be cranky and tired with all that? Sending hugs… and rolling pins to brandish at those giving you grief.
FCM, hope the in-laws don’t drive you bonkers. MY BIL used to watch the Weather Channel: it kept repeating, and he had no short-term memory, so it was perfect. awhile.
susan, I’m glad they caught the culprit. I know sometimes people are driven to steal, but taking honeymoon money is pretty low.
The only checks I write any more are the ones I tuck in birthday cards to my kids.
Oopsie, congrats on the weight loss, and I sure hope the crud clears up pronto.
Taters, sounds like smoke is even worse up by you. Glad you had a successful visit with the grands!
Bright Tree, I guess it’ll never make your resumé, but snake de-constipator seems like a rare skill. ![]()
JtC, sorry about poor hubs.
shoe, my personal record is 107 (seriously). Doc says it’s a weird vasomotor thing. I’ve since learned if I pinch my nose closed for a few minutes, I can break the streak.
Me, too!
HOORAY! It’s RAINING! This was not in the forecast. Woo-hoo!
Bingo. ![]()
In general, each meal is supposed to be at least half protein plus some fruit/veg and maybe some dairy or whole grains. So right now I’d have, say, 4 oz of chicken + 2 oz of carrots for dinner. A typical lunch might be couple ounces of deli turkey and a slice of cheese on some whole grain bread (a sandwich thin or a wrap is preferred), plus some fruit. Etc. I started off with 2-oz meals, and have gradually increased that quantity as my new pouch heals and expands a little. Many people are capable of eating more than the “limit,” but that’s what we’re supposed to aim for at each meal. In addition to three protein-focused 6-oz meals, I also still have 60 grams of protein supplement each day (usually two 30-gram shakes). That’ll be a lifelong thing, as well.
Thanks!! ![]()
(I think you posted this while I was drafting my response to FCM, and I’m horrible at editing posts on my iPad!)
Today is nice and clear, we are back to almost normal temps. I’m sure hoping things are getting better in CA, the news reports are sounding pretty dire.
Hubs and I talked about moving last night and agreed that neither of us wants to move and that he can just suffer without internet for a few days a year.
We’ve got a gaming laptop, so he’s loading his games and will be able to go camp in a bar or something if he’s going through bad withdrawal. Black Canyon City uses a different cell tower and fiber optic lines than Cordes, is less than 20 minutes away and has a neighborhood bar and grill. He will be fine, AND services are moving out this way anyhow.
The camel cheese is still in the mold, it is so fragile that I’m going to let it finish ripening in the mold instead of taking it out and salting the outside. Camel milk is naturally salty, calcium chloride is salty and I am concerned about adding even more salt to it.
Howdy Y’all! We deheathenated, went to the drive thru for a McN.O.L., got back to da cave, et, and then accomplished nappage. It’s been rainy off and on all afternoon which has been nice. Oh, and the biiiiiiiiiiiig trash can has been hauled all the way down to the road for pickup tomorrow. We’ve been watchin’ stuff about QEII off and on, but have decided we need to entertain ourselves with Netflix, and so we shall do.
Everyone have a good evenin’. I’ll catch y’all tomorrow.
Mooooooom, I know what you mean about the TV volume. When I go up to Dad’s, I have to leave the room when he turns on his, thanks to years of working as a machinist and doing woodwork on the side before hearing protection was required. That was shocking about the tire repair! The last one I had done, 20+ years ago, was only $6.
I hope that all of our western Mumpers get some relief from the fires soon.
It’s rained here on and off all day today. I managed to take Nelson out between showers. Between the rain and the shots, the allergies have calmed down a bit, thank Og. I drank coffee with the heathens this morning whilst we solved the world’s problems.
I started the ball rolling for Dad’s 85th birthday celebration next month. It won’t be anything formal (it’s more of a hassle for him to go out to eat than it’s worth), but, given that the b*tch sister decided to make an appearance at Thanksgiving, none of the rest of us are going to show up. Oh, well. We’ll do our Polish food feast a little early. ![]()
We got the evacuation alert for Sky Valley, and a bit later, the “oops, we didn’t mean you”.
AQI went up to 188, but it’s about to go under 100, so that’s not too bad.
Dad’s napping in his chair, and my mom will probably take a nap in her chair. Probably I could use a nap, but I only nap when sick. The AQI continues to drop. Hope it stays that way.
Parents are enjoying spoiling us - today we went to 3 different shops and wondered at all the variety.
Happy Sunday to all!
Just dropped off my car at the shop - it’s raining pretty hard again - even heard some thunder. They’re saying 50% chance of rain tomorrow, too. Squish squish squish…
Poor FCD is just fried from dealing with his folks - it’ll be 3 weeks with them by the time we return home alone next week. They haven’t been here a week yet, and it’s getting to me also. And I feel crappy being irritated because it’s not their fault - they’re old and it’s just the way they are. So, deep cleansing breaths, and I’ll count the days.
Plus I’ve given over my recliner to FIL - I miss my comfy seat!
Like a lot of other folks, it’s been an on-and-off rainy day (dry at this moment but my computer is telling me rain is coming). At least it has knocked the temperature way down (only 74F mid-afternoon) which my electric bill will appreciate. Did pedal off a few calories and have eaten Fettuccine Alfredo with a couple fo sammiches for tonight’s repast. I did do one thing today; sorted out all my bills and paperwork for the year and organized them in my storage bin (I had been piling them up on top if the bin for months) while watching tackleball, so I guess I can say something was accomplished today.
Oh, did make an appointment for Wednesday to get the flu and COVID booster shots, picked that day as it’s the only one I’m not coaching on and gives me time for any recovery if needed.
FCM, no greater love can a person give than to give up their recliner…(may have been garbled from the original text…)
Oopsie, MASH ranks pretty high on my all0time favorite list too. Enjoy the bingeing. And surprise money is always better than known-about money, IMHO.
Ok, heading back to the tackleball. All y’all take care.
Is now 10 ocklock, and I’m headed to sleep. Somebody else start next week’s MMP, cuz I ain’t gonna be up at midnight.
Everyone be safe and sane! See y’all next week.
Nah, it’s only 19 o’clock.
Dinner tonight was poke loin with Pig Salt, baked N.O.T.s, salad, and a Vieux Carré.
..on a Sunday
The regular crowd stumbles to bed
there’s a small cat sitting next to me
demanding that she be fed… ![]()
FiL is in the comfy chair? I didn’t expect the Spanish Inquisition to show up.
I’d hate to go like that. I wanna go out in a way that makes even Florida Man shake his head in shock and wonder.

I guess I have to forgo the latest COVID booster for now. You have to book online. I tried. Both pharmacies said no appointments were available, period. Weird. Went to a third pharmacy with a shop in my area. They only have appointments in a town 50 miles from me. The fourth only had openings in a town 10 miles away. (I have no car.)
I don’t get it. How are people scheduling these appointments?
Okay, THAT was funny as hell.
I wanna go out in a way that makes even Florida Man shake his head in shock and wonder.

We would expect nothing less!
FCM, you have my total sympathy and understanding. When hubs had to sell his parents place, he had an estate sale company come in and deal with all the stuff. They staged everything nicely and took what didn’t sell for their flea market booth. We made a little money, we didn’t have to deal with having an out of state yard sale and they even swept the floors when they left. (And took the broom with them.)
I haven’t told anyone about this…but I think you guys are safe…the lab lost VBC’s blood and she has to go back again tomorrow. She is going to be SO mad when she gets stuffed back into the carrier, but it will be worse if she knows it’s coming so keep your mouths shut.
Our crabby old cat already has an appointment for tomorrow, so VBC will be going at the same time. I was going to go and help wrangle them, but hubs thinks GG would be too scared if he was left all alone with no cats or hoomans or fud or water or comfort if he gets scared by a big bug. The no food or water thing wouldn’t happen, but big bugs have been known to invade the catio…
I started a thread in IMHO and have managed to stump folks, so I’m going to ask it here as well. There is a young Ladder-backed Woodpecker that visits our hummer feeders for a snack on a regular basis. Is hummingbird syrup bad for woodpeckers?
Everyone be safe and sane!
Yeah, no chance of that around here!

Why woodpeckers are sipping from hummingbird feeder
these might help a bit
Thank you so much for those, I couldn’t get past the adblocker response (without doing a lot of clicking and remembering to unclick) for the second site, but honestly…I’m charmed to see the woodpecker out there and don’t want to stop him from getting a drink unless it’s bad for him.
How are things going with your landlord issues? I’m hoping you haven’t said anything more because they have been ironed out.
