I think Nettie’s neurons behaved very bravely and should have some sort of reward. My own sanity is currently switched off; brain has exploded several times today. At one point I asked one of my replacements (and if I had any doubt that they needed me, the plural dispels it) “what part of ‘I am leaving mid-September so I won’t be able to do that stuff in January’ are you having problems with?”
Dispels should have two l’s, damnit
It’s a partly cloudy 88 degrees outside, suppose to rain later.
I am in for the day, so outside doesn’t matter.
Much confusion concerning my son’s classes, which start on Moonday. Two of classes were supposed to be at the school, but according to his schedule, all of his classes are online.
He is happy about that, although not so happy that school is starting in a few days. Also, very unhappy that one of his class’s assignments are three group projects. I suppose that business classes are meant to prepare one for business, which would include group assignments.
I should do some laundry today. I paid all my bills yesterday, so that is done.
I’m very productive this week. I finished all of Brent’s stuff (and there was a lot!) and I’m on the last of Baby Engineer’s drawings - he’d given me a metric buttload also, and I’m finally getting to the last one.
Which means I’ll be looking for work next week. I’ve got one drawing for Josh, but not much else, as far as I can tell. So I guess I’ll send out an email before I leave today. That’ll give 'em all a bunch of time to scrape something up.
And when I get home, I need to pack for the dash to Fl and back. A small tote should be sufficient. And some knitting to keep me occupied when I’m not driving. And my tablet and its charger. I should make a list.
You may think you are, but the bastiges put lactose in everything!
I feel ya. In the bad old days we used to have to import our Vernors from Michigan whenever we visited our relatives.
I have been known to take communion at the JB altar. (Hey, it’s better’n wine.)
Oh, and horseradish sauce is, shall we say, the love juice of satan.
(actually, freshly home made horseradish sauce is quite tasty. That stuff they sell in the stores, not so much.)
Wifey had an early meeting this morning and got up at 6:30. I had (wistful) dreams of sleeping in a bit, but the dogs woke up and Vinnie started tap dancing next to the bed, and Gibbs started break dancing on top of the bed, and so I’m up.
They, of course, have gone back to sleep. :dubious:
Not sure what I’m doing today, but I wouldn’t be surprised if there was a nap in there somewhere.
Wifey is thinking we’re gonna hafta take in boarders to pay for our ‘second home’. Not difficult, 'cause we live 6 blocks from a university. But that means I’ll have to bring the upstairs bathroom into this century, and paint the upstairs front bedroom.
The upstairs back bedroom is full of computers and electric trains and other ‘man stuff’. It would take a major effort to shift all that stuff.
Wifey just called. The roofers’ schedule has changed and they’re starting on Moonday, which means the driveway needs to be cleared, which means the garbage and recycling cans need to move to the back yard where the old canopy off the Ranger is, which means I have to give the old canopy a bath so we can palm it off on somebody. I’d rather do that than take it to the dump where I’ll have to pay them to take it. There’s nothing wrong with it except it’s been setting in the back yard for 4 years collecting grime.
Also I need to pick up all the pears that have fallen off our pear tree. The problem is, they fall off before they’re ripe, so just have to be thrown away. Our pear tree is an underachiever. :dubious:
Also I have to go to the store, again. I have a list. And I’ll stop at the Box of Red and try to rent Avengers, Endgame. Wifey’s book club is going to see a movie tonight. Some book they read. Anyway, I’m not invited, so I’ll watch what I wanna watch. At home.
I napped for almost two hours which is super-long for me; I’m more one of those 30 minute max folks. But I’m feeling much better and far lkess homicidal than I did earlier today.
This is good - I’ve been wanting bees. Not just to help bees in general, (And bees really need our help!) but so my orange trees get pollinated and make oranges. Last year, one of them had dozens of blossoms but none were pollinated so no oranges. To combat this, I scattered “bee blend” flower seeds on an otherwise unusable hillside in my back yard, and now the bees have found a new nectar stop. Hopefully they will be able to look about ten feet over and see tasty orange blossoms in a few months.
I have a stand of false dragonhead that are blooming right now. Not only am I getting generic bees, but I’m also getting sweat bees. Really weird to see iridescent green bees busily pollinating!
bumba, if you take in boarders, you know that you have to wear clothes around the house. Will your pears not ripen at room temp in a fruit bowl on the counter? That’s what I do when I buy green pears.
Good on the bees dancer.
It was hotter than billy blue hades when I got off irk today, but there were promising storm clouds in the sky. Shortly after I walked Nelson, they broke open and we had a good shower.
I met a new neighbor this morning. Her dog’s name is Milo (a cute shiz-hu mix) but I don’t remember hers.
Howdy Y’all! I accomplished mowage, had some quality cee-mint pond time, achieved nappage, and made sup. All in all, not a shabby day at all. I like this retirement bidness. I do stuff, then I don’t do stuff, all at my own pace. NICE! I did not go to Sam’s. I will accomplish that tomorrow whilst out and about to do stuff.
gotti and dancer yay for bees! I like bees. Not as much as Nuts likes bees but like 'em I do.
Lost power for over an hour this evening.
I went out back to sit and watched the rain pour down on the houses across the alley while it stayed dry (mostly) over here. It did spit a little at us.
My son really needs to read his emails.
He missed the exciting news about a bear being on the campus.
Also had two emails explaining that two of his classes were cancelled because not enough students signed up for them. That is how he got enrolled into the online classes.
We had to order one of his books from da jungle because to order books from the campus bookstore you have to go through a menu, and for whatever reason the two new classes are not included in the menu. One professor had the information out there, the other hasn’t done anything more than send an email saying he would be sending more info. Classes start Moonday, that does not leave much time to order a textbook.
Yay! I can print multiple photos on one page in Windows10!
The rat bastiges hid this in an out of the way place. I YouTubed “Printing multiple photos in Windows10 for Dummies” and Shazam! there it was. It was much more helpful than Microsoft’s own website, which just wanted you to buy more software. The rat bastiges. It’s a good thing that the first big project with all of this new tech (remember, I upgraded electronic die cutters a couple of months back) is a personal one that I do on an annual basis for family. I would have been a wreck if this had been a paying project.
Blurf made it through another day. Did a few more online trainings. It all runs together after a while and it’s all pretty boring but required. Prevention of Sexual Harassment, prevention of workplace violence, No Fear act, antiterrorism and cyber security and Combatting of trafficking in Persons was today and yesterday. I have a few more and hopefully will be caught up for a few months. Boring.
Tomorrow is finally Firday and payday. Thank Goodness.
That a distinct disadvantage. Wifey and I are ‘clothing optional’ most of the time. But that would have to change. It is a christian university after all.
I’ve been leaving them on the windowsill in the kitchen with the tomatoes, but they turn soft and brown and rot, not yellow. (They’re Bartletts.) Maybe I should put them in a paper bag with a banana.
Well, the Box of Red didn’t have the Avengers Endgame DVD. It showed ‘out of stock’. They did have the blu-ray version, but we don’t have a blu-ray player. I feel the same way about blu-ray as I felt about betamax back in the day, and refuse to buy into their little scam. I guess it’s amazon prime or netflix for me tonight.
If I can stay awake.
We’ve been watching a BBC series called ‘Silent Witness’ on amazon prime. We think it’s where the idea for the Murikan CSI series came from. We’re up to season 9 now, I think. We watch enough British series that we are recognizing various English actors from other series a lot. Even a very young Bennydick Cumberbund had a bit part on Silent Witness in season 5 or 6, I think.
My current assignment is financial (prepaid debit cards). Had one prizewinner today, who was adamant that she knew her ZIP code better than USPS does, and basically hung up on me in a tantrum for two reasons: I wasn’t about to change the ZIP to what she said and screw up anything she needs that address to be right for, and she was actually expected to get off her duff and make a little effort to ensure that a service she wanted would be doable (trust me, the effort would have been trivial for someone who actually needed said service as much as she claimed to).
Yeah, we have the Dry Pool Divers, the ones too dumb to find the pool, the ones with skulls so dense they’d crack the pool bottom, the ones who so adamantly refuse to allow neurons to fire that I’m not sure how they even dial a phone…
I get along fine with 10. Of course, I’m not sure why everyone hated Vista and 8, since I did fine with both.
Pretty sure we’re still using 7 at irk, and I’ve seen at least one computer there wearing a Pentium sticker.
Evening all. Nappage was accomplished this afternoon and soccer was practiced from 5-8pm with the 8-9 years olds followed by the 10-11 year olds. For once the younger kids were better behaved, the older ones are a bit cocky and snarky this year, but not enough to get away with anything. Rain never showed up, so still hope for the weekend (40% chance for Firday night).
All ya’all take care. Safe travels tomorrow, Moooomm.
