Milossarian planted the idea of having a Michigan Summer Doperpalooza, but he doesn’t think anyone would drive that far north.
So I’d like to have one here, at my place. My house isn’t big, but the yard is big ehough for a grill & a keg. Kids are welcome, too. We’ve got a pretty large inflatable pool–not deep, but fun if you’ve got little ones. We also live about 2 blocks from a school with a playground, so if you’ve got older kids, maybe we could pass the hat & pay them to take the little ones there, or to the ice cream parlor that’s about 4 blocks away.
There’s an airport and hotels here, too, a few miles away. Nice, reasonable ones, like Motel 6, Super 8, & Red Roof Inn.
I’m thinking about the second weekend of August. One catch, though–that’s the weekend of the Buick Open, and Tiger Woods is coming to town. BUT, the Flint hotels won’t be as booked. Most everyone will be staying in Grand Blanc, where the golf course and the ritzy people live.
I’d be more than happy to play hostess, if anyone is interested!
Oh yeah–if you want to come, and you play an instrument, please bring your rig. My husband is a musician, and looooooves a good jam session. Doesn’t matter what you play, doesn’t matter if you play it badly. Just bring it.

pLt: I have partied with many of these people. What you’ve heard is true. But, I own this house. So if they tear it up, well, I’m basically screwed. :::shrug::: It’ll be fun, though!
monster, if you showed up, I’d definitely play the Monkees! If I’m feeling perky enough, I might even try & talk my husband & any other jammers into a rousing rendition of “Shades of Gray.” Hehehehe.
aha, the festivities will be on the weekend. Surely an aging rock star such as yourself can party on a weekend! C’mon, prove to me that teachers have lives!
How far of a drive are you from Gary, IN? (That’s where my mom lives.)
I’d love to come (especially if I could hear a live jam of Shades of Grey), but I’ll be flying in in October and I don’t think I can afford two trips in two months.
monster: Gary isn’t a terrifically long drive from here. Right off the top of my head, I think it’s 4 or 5 hours. I’ll have to check on that, though. If you can drive it, that would be great!
I’m glad you mentioned that kids are welcome because the hubby told me today that if I’m going, then I’m taking at least a couple of the kids with me. He actually has a good friend of his who recently moved to Flint, so he might be coming along so he can go visit his friend too while we are in the area.
Sorry Persephone, but hotels vacancies in Flint is a running joke between me and my wife. The only time we were trying to find one there was when we were driving home from Mio ( I lived in Lansing then ) and we needed a place to crap out. No vacancy was to be found between the Tri Cities and Lansing.
Now that I live in Pittsburgh, it is unlikely that I could make it.
