If I Just Must, I'll Start The MMP

I want to thank you for this utter LOL and I hope things went smoothly for you today.

Just south of San Francisco, there are two Targets across the interstate from one another.

I’m sure there are people who are paid a lot of money to study these sorts of things. I guess if enough shoppers will avoid your store because it’s a left turn instead of a right, our the eastbound exit is easy to miss, or whatever reason, it’s worth their while to build another one close by.

I’m reminded of this Lewis Black bit.

When my dad died, we had a short (4 hours, I think) wake, and then had him cremated. Did you know you can rent coffins?
Mom went straight from the ICU to the crematorium, which someone there commented was very unusual.
No funeral for either. We held memorial gatherings a while after the fact in a condo clubhouse and a private room in a restaurant, respectively.
Neither of them would have wanted a big fuss, or to have their bodies taking up space forever. And it was much less expensive this way.

We have the same configuration for two Factory Mattress stores. It’s pretty common actually in places where there’s a lot of traffic and for sure most people will visit the easier-access-to-them location so I’m sure it pays off. (Like Starbucks and McDonald’s)

Good morning everyone!

Congrats to FCDaughter on getting the job!

Fingers crossed on the interview, shoe!

It was a loooooong week! I told you all about the fubarred room situation at the beginning of the week, but by Tuesday, they had me in a proper, non-dungeon room.

The office relocation went smoothly enough, with a couple of blips here and there, but stuff that was easily sorted and therefore didn’t prevent the movers from doing their thing. On Tuesday, the movers got everything that had to be relocated on the trucks, over to the new location, and put in place. The conference room table was something else though. That thing was huge and heavy. It was too long to fit in the elevator and they had to remove the legs. It took all of the moving crew to get it down the stairs, where it momentarily got stuck on the mezzanine level. It was quite the operation, but they got it out of there.

Wednesday morning, they came in and removed all the stuff going to metal recyclers, plus some stuff for the dump. On Thursday, they broke down all the cubicles and the “executive” furniture and hauled it off. They were finished by Thursday at 2:30 and the job was actually expected to run through Friday morning. So, they kicked ass! If it would have been legal, I would have tipped them, but I can’t because it was a contract job for the fed gov. I ended up staying in Wenatchee overnight Thursday, but was back on the road home by 6:30 am Friday. Got home around 9:45, set up my work computer and finished out the day working from home.

The heat reached 101 on Thursday, so it was miserable outside and I didn’t walk to any restaurants. I took my Jeep. I don’t do well in the heat anyway, but 101 is just too much for me.

I go back to Wenatchee on the 27th and will probably do a there and back thing because I don’t feel like staying overnight and the hotel I like is booked up anyway.

It’s a very comfortable 57 degrees with a marine layer outside. It’s supposed to reach the 80s and 90s next week, so this is nice.

Well, I have laundry and chores to do. I hope you all have a great day!

Just finished breakfast; scrambled eggs with cheese (mine with Tabasco), and bacon.

Big day of work ahead. At 09:30 I’ll put some jeans and shoes on, and then go down to the hardware store to rent the log-splitter I reserved. I’m hoping I can split all of the logs in six hours, and get the splitter back before they close.

No wonder OYKW likes to duck and cover - the lightning bolts must be flying!

\color{red}\mathbf{\text {Red}} I’m glad your fall wasn’t worse. I can picture a concerned little red dog. He’s a good boi.

Good news on the move Taters! Once it’s finally, finally finished do things get easier at work?

Nothing huge planned today. I’m determined to get my kitchen under control. My children, bless their hearts, are determined to stop me but it will not happen. In fact, they will help me. New house rule is coming to town. I’ve had it. Clean kitchen every night. No exceptions short of COVID or finals.

That’s why FCD and I are donating our remains to the Maryland Anatomy Board to be used as they see fit, whether at med schools or for research. Then when they’re done, what’s left will be cremated and returned to the family, and we want the cremains poured into the Chesapeake Bay. No muss, no fuss.

Brain fart - FCD forgot to grab his toolbag so when we got to the boat, we couldn’t do much of anything. So we came home. He’s got some design work to do and a little more electrical that he can do here, and maybe we’ll go back later this afternoon, or maybe we’ll just wait till tomorrow.

I just went out looking for the kittens - they’re gone. No clue if they were carried off by dogs or if Momcat led them away, but I got into the wisteria where they were hiding the other day and there was nary a kitteh to be seen. Maybe the arrival of the dog that stole their kibbles made Momcat relocate them all. But I haven’t seen the kittens in 2 days, and I suspect Momcat won’t return after the trap adventure. So I need to email the rescue folks and have Animal Control come pick up the trap. And that will be that.

It’s freekin’ hot out, but I think I can survive a brief period of labor, dragging branches to where I cut them up for firewood… not that I plan to do any cutting today. But I did pull out the smoker and do the chicken - hickory chips and our favorite rub. Yum! Now to make a list for our trip next week.

Eh, the interview was a bust. I didn’t have the right qualifications - not surprised, but I wanted to at least make an effort.
Thanks, all, for the good wishes. It means a lot to have people - even imaginary internet strangers - in my corner.

Filling out an app for a local restaurant rt now. I tried at two other local places the other day, and despite the “NOW HIRING” signs, they were not, in fact, hiring.

So much frustration. So little energy.

I’m on vacation. First up, laundsry and napping.

Sorry, shoe, that sucks.

We are going to the body farm. They are having to do all new measurements because people aren’t decomposing as quickly anymore. Considering the preservatives I’ve eaten over the years, my body is probably good for at least 20 years before it starts breaking down.

I’ve also started packing for my trip, Mom will be here on Tuesday and we are leaving on Thursday so I figured I should get most of it done now. Well, I don’t want to put the mead and wine in the trunk yet, it’s too hot, but I am putting everything in one spot.

We will be in Tucson for our primary election, and I don’t trust the post office so I’m going to have to get myself to the drop box in the next town over before we leave. My mail-in ballot came with a “Yavapai Voted” sticker which I will bring with me to wear on election day.

Our crabby old cat was by the baby gate and GG reached through the bars and gave him a mighty whack. He’s real brave when there are bars between them, LOL.

Owie! I’m glad it wasn’t worse. Poor Nelson must have gotten such a start, mom threw something at him!

Bummer shoe, but I have full confidence that you will find something better very quickly!

Yeah, but at least I’m owned by the luckiest black cat evah!

He loves to put one single paw on me. “You’re mine now, bitch.”

Howdy Y’all! I survived funeralizin’ Gary. The church was almost full and I had to get into the reserved Sacraments (called, by me, the ABB (already been blessed)) so that was fun. Also, just as we got everyone out to the Memorial Garden to plunk Gary’s ashes down, the power went out in both buildin’s. A church member has rented the Parish Hall for a bday party that should be goin’ on now, so they may or may not have power. Oh well, not my monkeys, not my circus. Hopefully it will be back on by the mornin’. If’n not, we’ll figure out sump’n. Anywho, I am home, in my comfies, in the a/c, and I have fed, so life is good.

Eureka Springs is a very interesting place. The original part of town that dates back to the civil war is built into the side of a very steep granite mountain. The historic business district is now home to a whole lot of shops. It is artsy/crafty and kind of like a hippie flea market. Strangely enough well over half of the gift shops also sell very wicked looking knives. The town is also very LGBQT+ friendly and I have heard it referred to as The San Francisco of the Ozarks.

We stayed at a B&B called The Heartstone. I can not recommend it highly enough Very nice rooms and the breakfasts are a gourmet treat.

If you fish, the town is built very near Beaver Dam and the White River below the dam is some of the best fly fishing I have ever seen. Standing chest deep, you can drop a quarter and be able to see heads or tails. The place we stay for a long weekend every fall is Spider Creek Resort. Out of state license and a Trout stamp are very inexpensive. (Resort might be a bit of a stretch, but the cabins are reasonable and have a full and equipped kitchen. They are also very well kept and clean)

Sorry to bend everyone’s ear with my boring vacation…

Bend away Hippy! I like hearing about travels.

Much thanks, Hippie, sounds like and interesting place but not much into fishing or shopping, but I can see why people like to go there. And never know when I might be traveling and need a room sometime…

swampy, hope the power is back on tomorrow; candlelight services in the summer are probably not fun…

shoe, you never know how and interview will go until you try. Best of luck on the next one.

FCM, looks like you have this afterlife thing well thought-out. I’ll donate any organs I have that are still in working order then be cremated and (as I may have mentioned) have my ashes spread on my parent’s graves (If allowed).

Sunny, good luck on the kitchen policing; can I borrow the kids to clean mine then?

Taters, glad the move went smoothly; now listen for all the “I can’t find my ______” whines, especially from those who packed at the last minute.

OK, got my first half-hour of swimming in around noontime, but then the pool crowded up and I think I’m going back now and see if I can get the other 30 minutes done. Then home for mealtime and finish up the day.

All y’all have a good evening (or morning) now.

Sorry about the interview shoe. Consider it practice for future interviews.

JtC, you may be my body farm neighbor. I’m on the waiting list too, if they have room. I also voted yesterday.

Your vacation sounds relaxing hippy.

Picked up prescriptions, dropped off the Goodwill donation and picked up a zalad from Zaxby’s for supper. Now for studio time.

I was invited to a lake house party today, but I’m in a really bad head space, so I didn’t go. I should have gone. Now I’m mad at myself.

You gotta know it’s a popular place, people are dying to get in!

If I was there, I’d want to be left out with a fifth of whiskey. In case I needed a stiff drink.

@Sahirrnee

I am so sorry to hear this
