Flyboy, on the bright side, your mishap could have been a lot worse. Glad you still have all your appendages and they’re not permanently mangled. I bet you’ll have a nice scar, though.
Sounds similar to something that happened to me about 40 years ago. I was working in a foundry, and caught my middle finger in a hydraulic slide. (Short version, I had my hand in the machine to clean it, and pulled the lever to close the slide before my hand was clear. It was the end of the day and I was rushing, and mis-timed it.) Pulled my hand out and watched my white work glove almost instantly turn red.
Like you, though, no broken bones. Unlike you, no stitches; bandages did the trick. Lots of swelling and I lost the nail. Today there’s a teeny-tiny little scar on my fingertip.
Maybe log-splitters are dangerous? Pretty sure I’m going to stay away from them, anyway.
I don’t see the pizza place lasting a long time either, JtC; but, maybe as has been mentioned they were having staffing issues.
I’m sorry about your injury, flyboy. I’m glad it wasn’t worse!
I didn’t really get much of anything done besides watering my flowers and part of my lawn yesterday. I was pretty wrung out, and just kind of putzed here and there. I cleaned the kitchen and did some other minor chores, but that was about it.
Today is definitely laundry day and I am debating going to the office tomorrow. I’ve done more than three days “in office” this pay period. The office just happened to be Wenatchee and not Olympia and that counts. Still mulling it over…
It’s currently 56 degrees and sunny, with an expected high of 84. This week we’ll see the upper 90s. Blech.
Well, I should finish my coffee. I need to move my sprinkler in about half an hour. I got started watering the lawn early today.
Morning all. Getting ready to do my dining out (Longhorn Steakhouse), or maybe I’ll have my Salad bowl first and eat out later tonight…decisons, decisions. Only got 50% of my swimmin’ in yesterday, so thinking about going over this morning and doing the rest of it, would at least work up an appetite for dinner.
Flyboy, Ouch! Glad it wasn’t any more serious and happy I had the trees taken out of my yard 20 years ago or I’d probably be looking at the same thing. Take care.
shoe, give him time… the male ego and all…hope he resumes his calling upon you soon.
doggio, hopefully not followed by hairballs…
JtC, I know some restaurants around here are strickly breakfast/lunch places, but a pizza joint closing at 6pm…weird.
Nettie, I’ve been known to leave my door unlocked, but have good neighbors and live on a cul-de-sac, so I’ve been able to get away with it so far. I am doing better with it.
VanGo, hope you find a better head space.
OK, need to decide now if swimmin’ before eatin’ is doable. All y’all take care.
At one point, I was sitting across from the guy with the same injury. His wife was exasperated it was taking so long to be seen. I overheard and said, ‘Look at the bright side. We’re not sick enough that they have to see us first!’ She said, ‘That’s a good way of looking at it.’
I reeeeeeaally need to get this job application for a local eatery filled out & dropped off, but it’s still pouring rain, and all I really wanna do is listen to the pitter-pat and snuggle with Monkey.
that loks like my hand after the knife sharpening incident when I was a kid … mom had a certain knife for the kitchen she was fond of using and it was dull and shed complained to my stepdad for several days about it
Well a while later I was trying dishes I wasn’t paying attention and rat the knife blade side down across the towel I was holding fast enough for it to go through the towel slice my hand and a few fingers and it hurt and the bleeding wouldn’t stop …the nurse came out and said it would be a few hours due to some accident and om was like “well can we at least stop the bleeding sos my kid won’t pass out from blood loss ?”
The nurse came out and looked at it and was like wow that’s a deep cut … was he using an axe? and hustled me to the back and there were a bunch of stitches involved …
Now what had happened was stepdad had finally sharpened the knife like mom had been asking for a couple of weeks … and so did grandpa who heard mom talking about it and was bored and was out for a visit and neither had thought to tell mom to be careful t… but that knife was so sharp it could cut wood
Grandpa considered me one of the smartest in the family but “not having a lick of common sense”
As for showering, can you get your hands on (ha!) some nitrile exam gloves. If you can get one on over your fingers you can shower pretty safely. Don’t ask me how I know this.
I came home one day to find the front door standing open on our ca 1895 house in the valley. It had a funky old mortise door lock. I ended up having to take the lock apart and replacing the broken spring with a used sabre saw blade.
It’s supposed to get up to 98f here today, with temps over 100 for the next week. Thurs. says 109f. I should wash my truck today, huh? The black locust trees in the neighborhood have been doing unmentionable things all over it and that stuff is hard to get off. we’ve got car covers coming from Da Jungle for that reason, but I wonder if we need to worry about baking our paint jobs under there in this heat.
The knob doesn’t have a lock, it’s just the bolt. Still at a loss as to how the door didn’t even CLOSE. The bolt was not turned, so it wouldn’t have been the cause. At least all the pets are fine, and we haven’t found anything disturbed or missing.
Buddy is doing an excellent job of being the bratty little brother, and Allie’s vocabulary is definitely not suitable to a dignified Princess.
Don’t be too hard on yourself. There will be another time. I sympathize. Sometimes it’s just hard to “people” even if I know I might enjoy it. Take a note for next time, but don’t pile on yourself. Some alone time is fine too.
flyboy eek! I hope your hand heals up quickly. It sounds like a nasty wound.
I’m not closer, but I’ll chime in with some details. It’s right outside one of the main entrances to Yosemite. It’s moving quickly and the terrain is really bad for fighting fires. It has been hot here for weeks. Temps are dipping to the low 90s, which might help some, but it’s still hot and dry.
If you are anywhere that might possibly be caught in a wildfire, this is a reminder to have a go bag packed.
Akiko knows how to open doors, which was fine when we were training her to be my service dog. It’s not so great now. We’ve had to change some of the knobs and keep doors locked so she can’t follow me when she’s not supposed to. Akiko being the same dog that couldn’t (or wouldn’t) use the dog door for months.
Dice I always like reading your updates. Life in Switzerland sounds so different. Have a fun trip.
It’s weird. When I lived in Missouri, storms scared the shit out of me, with good reason (details available on request). I kind of miss them now.
I’m giving you the don’t be so hard on yourself speech too. You’ve had a really hard year (years?). You’re burnt out. It takes time to recover. Be kind to yourself.
Do you ever play the multi-player Plants v Zombies? I haven’t tried it, but we have the game. Maybe we could meet up virtually and kill zombies together.
Yesterday I made progress on operation clean kitchen. There is more to do, but I am pleased with the cooperation thus far.
My sister’s family seems to be recovering well from their 3rd round of COVID. 3rd. I love them, but it’s like they’re out licking doorknobs. I’d buy her a cat, but she’s very allergic. Something else maybe. A parrot?
The kids go back to school in 3 weeks, which is insane. IMO, second week of August is Summer still, but no one asked me, so that’s what is happening.
Home from a successful day of boat work. First thing, FCD crawled into the hell hole and got the new horn button hooked up. It works! Yay!
Then we set about installing the panel with the temperature monitors for the engine room. We learned in our diesel class that you don’t want your engine room to get over 130°. We also know that the engine room blowers aren’t designed to run constantly for hours. So FCD designed a control panel with a couple of temperature monitors and some relays that can be set to turn something (fan, blower, a/c, heater, whatever) on at a certain temperature and off at another set point. So we have ours set to turn the blowers on if the engine room gets up to 100° and off when it drops below 95°.
The monitors were made in China, and the instructions were written by someone who studied “You talk good English too!” thru a cut-rate correspondence course. It took multiple readings to understand how to do the settings. But we ran a test and it seems to be working. So yay!
Then we went to the pool - sadly, these really hot days mean the pool was almost bath-water warm. But we bobbed around and talked about what we need to do next. After going back to the boat to change, we made a list which I’m about to type up - more chores! But for all we’ve done, if you saw it the day we brought it home and you look at it today, you’ll see hardly any differences. All the work is backstage! But we know!!
Tomorrow, we’re taking the pressure washer so we can start cleaning the fiberglass - it’s kinda grimy. But the rest of today is for chillage.
Glad there was no manglage flyboy. However, I am going to scold you for operating machinery like that while wearing a ring. I’m sure that Wifey RN would rather have you take it off than lose a finger. :scolding done:
VanGo, I’ve gotten to the point that I would rather do people one on one or very small groups. I don’t blame you for backing out.
Why use a doggy door when you can operate a door handle sunny? The kids in my old town go back to school next week. That school district is always the first in the state to return.
Take care of yourself shoe. Things will look up at some point.
Had coffee with the heathens in the "Boro, then came home for Sunday chores. I made fish - ginger - tomato stew for supper and it hit the spot.
Howdy Y’all! We deheathenated, had a McN.O.L., got back to da cave and achieved nappage. The biiiiiiiiiiiiig trash can has been hauled all the way down to the road for pickup tomorrow. Thus has been the day in swampland. Now evenin’ chillage ensues. The promised rain has yet to show up but it appears to be rainin’ all around us.
Well this is annoying. I’ve lost electricity. The UPS is keeping me hooked to teh interwebs, but nothing else works. So no AC, the new gas stove turned itself off, so I had to fire up the grill to finish the cooking. I mean, I was originally gonna do these ribs on the grill, but it was really windy out there. Weather has calmed down, but now no juice. So perhaps a good thing? For the ribs anyway.
Early evening here in N. Ali-bama. Did get the missed firday swimmin’ in and then ate at Longhorn Steak House (steak was good but they piled on too many fries, a phrase I never thought I’d have to use), so when I got home I ended up napping which became sleepage (over 2 hours) so can’t make it to the gym. So will probably go out to the park and do the mile walk I used to take, even if it is in the high 80’sF. Then home to eat and bathe (not at the same time, mind you) and that should conclude the day.
VanGo, that’s rough losing power at this time. Any reports from the power company on when it will be restored?
FCM, congrats on all the boat work. Bet if you figured out the hours you’ve spent and a reasonable wage for them, it would astound you.
{{{shoe}}}, because I have been told I’m pretty good at them.
flyboy, that’s a pretty gruesome sight; glad it wasn’t even more severe.
shady, never cut myself that badly, but have a few scars left from working in a restaurant in my youth.
OK, need to put on a t-shirt and shorts and do the walkin’. All y’all take care and if I don’t get back on-line, catch you on the next MMP.
