If I Just Must, I'll Start The MMP

Morning, mumpers! It’s currently 27c/81f with a predicted high of 34c/94f and cloudy. Except it’s not cloudy at all, there’s way too much sun out there! Weather app says “Today is a good day for jorts. I’m just kidding. It’s never a good day for fucking jorts”. I agree with that. Mankles are bad enough but jorts are a step too far.

Fun times today - I was up at 5.45am, first thing I did was check train times and found there wasn’t much running this morning. I did everything for the cats, fixed lunch for myself and had some breakfast then had to leave by 6.45am to walk the mile to the train station. I managed to get there in time for the 7.24am train to Big City which was pretty much the only train running until 9am. Then got a train out to campus which was the only one running out of a possible four trains.

It’s already boiling in the office, windows are open and fans are blowing. Putting frozen stuff in front of the fans is a great idea if we had somewhere to freeze things! After yesterday’s train débacle on the way home (normal journey time is 1.25hrs, yesterday was closer to 4.75hrs), I am closing the office early and throwing everyone out to make sure we all get home at a reasonable time.

There is absolutely no justification for us being on campus, we can all work from home and we although we are customer-facing, the only “customer” we’ve seen is the campus postie. Now we have the looming fiasco of the commonwealth games stuff on campus so all of our buildings have now been locked to swipe-only access so anyone who doesn’t need to be in our building can’t get in.

Moooom cute kittehs! I hope they find themselves somewhere good to live, they’re a sweet little bunch.

Pearl good to see you!!

sari never TMI here, and this is the perfect place to vent, and to look for support etc. Some of us have been there too, and we know how great the Mumpers are when you need a bit of sympathy and solace.

Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN 'Tis 74 Amurrkin out and N.O.S. with a predicted high of 90 with rain mid to late afternoon. We shall see. The big item on today’s agenda is laundry. I can hardly sit still I am so excited. Sup shall be my world famous Eyetalian chikin, peas 'n carrots, wild rice (we like excitement in our rice) and rolls.

{{{Pearl}}} :: tacklehug :: yay!!! Come back and play some more.

sari come in and vent all you want. Like BooFae said a bunch of us have been there and we are always here for sympathy and care. This is a tough thing to go through, so just know we are here.

shoe perhaps you were a student of art history in a past life.

Now I need more caffeine and to feed rumbly tummy. Then, onward into the day! Rah.

Happy Tuesday Y’all!

You are one sick puppy to even make the effort to post this! :stuck_out_tongue:

I let her frost her b-day cake when she was 3, but she lost interest pretty quickly. She helped her mama decorate cookies one Christmas. But I think she lacks the attention span or interest. Maybe she’ll be more inclined one day, or maybe she’ll be like my sister who doesn’t like anything to do with food prep. We shall see…

I heard back from the animal welfare league - they won’t take the kittens if they’re older than 6-7 weeks because they’re too hard to socialize. They won’t take the mama at all, but they’ll give me a voucher for a free spay, if I can catch her. I think there’s another group in the county - I’ll try contacting them. I’d be OK leaving water and kibbles outside for them, but no more cats in the house and I can’t afford shots for any more critters - my three are expensive enough! So we shall see.

This morning, I saw one kitten, then Higgs showed up at the side fence, barking like an idiot, and the kitten disappeared. So who knows what will happen…

Obviously from the Devil’s Weed! You junkies are all alike!!!
Yeah, bedtime brains are, um, interesting…

MIL called last night. I don’t understand her thinking - with all the heat in Florida, she still spends 3 hours a day pulling weeds that absolutely no one cares about! The woman is asking for heat stroke. FCD thinks she does it just to get out of the house and away from FIL for a little while. Maybe, but it’s still stupid - she could collapse outside, he could fall inside, and unless a neighbor happens to walk by and notice, that could be it. But of course, that will never happen…

And as I wrote this, I heard again from Stephanie at the rescue group - she told me what I’d have to do: Trap the mom, then the kittens, then contact the group and we’d get the spay/placement done from there. I’ve got Tobias the next 3 days, and as skittish as the cats are, I don’t know if I’ll be able to catch them. Plus I suppose there’s the possibility that she’s a neighborhood cat who wanders and brought her kittens along… Spay your animals, people! Sheesh!!!

< deep cleansing breath>

So, yeah, Happy Tuesday!

They need constant attention and maintenance. Remember, even the Bible says that women are “Human 2.0” and, as we know, “2.0” is always more advanced and functional than the original release.

That’s a very common problem with AC units.

Morning all. Did manage to do the shoppin’ and sammich run yesterday afternoon, and then went to the gym about 6:30pm to do my swimmin’. According to the scale in the changing room, I was at 279.7 lbs, which while still pretty hefty, it’s the first time I’ve been below 280 in a long time, so yeah for that. Rain showed up about 4:30am and more is expected around 9am with the plumber, so just as well that I did the errands yesterday.

Sari, glad you got to see family again, even with the crazy drivers and Mom stuff.

FCM, good luck with the cat catching.

Boofae, never underestimate the bureaucratic mind for doing silly/stupid stuff.

shoe, brains are wonderful for pulling up stuff you would never think of…and once they have, you can’t stop thinking of.

JtC, hope the doctor is more organized than his staff apparently is…

OK, need to move the car from the street, turn on the water for about 15 minutes while I clean up, and await the plumber. All y’all have a good 2sday.

MetalMouse - how old is your house? It sounds like the plumbing contractor used some cheap-ass pipe and the inspector didn’t catch it or didn’t care. Hope you get it resolved before you run out of savings.

The little crawling machine is napping. Hope it’s a long one, since he apparently had a rough night. He’s already getting into everything around here - he found the dog toys basket.

I got more advice from the animal rescue person, and she said I could ask animal control to try to catch the cats and they’d turn them over to the rescue. But I’d have to let the mom live outdoors at my house, which would be OK, I guess. We’ll see how it goes. Can’t do anything till I take the kid home.

FCD is working from his shop again, making the name plates for the new switches he’ll be installing. I’m glad - I’d rather he not work in the boat without me in this heat. He’s got enough to do in the shop that it shouldn’t be an issue.

Happy Toosday!

I skipped the park today.
I didn’t sleep well last night at all and I feel like hell.
I’m still deciding about going to the armpit.
I have NO clean clothes and so have to wash and dry stuff before I can leave.
I think we may go tomorrow instead. If we do go today, it will be later in the day, and everybody is staying there, so there is no room for us to stay over.
Niece2 said she could send the two younger boys to their other great grandmother’s house and we could have their bed. I’m thinking.

I’m all discombobulated.
Niece2 told me just take a deep breath and do one thing at a time until I get everything done that I need to do before I leave.
Then decide what to do.
If we leave tomorrow, I can keep Ripple’s vet appt since it is just a blood test and can be done before they open.
There is half of a dead rabbit in the yard that my son needs to do something with. Echo wants to bring it in the house, that is NOT happening. She prances around with it in her mouth, so proud of herself.
I’m sure she didn’t kill it.
Lawn guy is supposed to come today, I need to text him.
There is thawed shrimp in the fridge that needs to be cooked today or it’ll go bad.
I have some bills that have to be paid, one of which is a problem and after being on the phone with them, they told me not to pay it today and to call back next week and it should be fixed. I’m paying the damn thing off, it has been nothing but trouble, but I can’t pay it off until the balance is corrected.
The spin cycle on the washer is screwed up again and the clothes are sopping wet.
Nothing can be simple.

What did you do with the puppies? :astonished: :face_with_raised_eyebrow:

FCM, the house was built in 1997, so it’s about 25 years old. Had another leak about 3 years ago (above the slab), but this is my first major issue with below-the-slab piping, so hopefully this will fix me up for the foreseeable future. And I’ve got some money for it, not likely to go broke unless they have to tear the house down to get it…

That said, they are making holes in my kitchen tile right now, looks like they have found the major problem (or al least one of them). Fortunately I have extra matching tiles in the garage from when I got these installed 5-6 years ago. But still will have to pay to get them installed and set, so that will be extra. I’ll probably submit the ‘restoration’ stuff (carpets put back, tile set) and the second inspection to the insurance folks and see if I can get anything back. Just want it to be done.

Sari, hand son a shovel and a bag and point at said dead rabbit. No need to say anything. Hope the rest of life’s headaches sort themselves out for you.

OK, need to see how much else they’ve drilled out of my base; been pretty noisy as I typed this but suddenly very quiet…

All ya’ll take care.

I’ve heard that Europeans can pick out Americans because we tend to wear shorts and T-shirts. The weather they’re having right now is why.

Less rewraps, and more help so I got out early. Also:
Me: “Don’t forget, I’m on vacation next week.”
High level supervisor: :open_mouth: :scream: :grimacing:

[Sigmund Fraud]Zo, tell me about sureal issues you hav mit you mother.[/Sigmund Fraud]

That’s horrible! I should have made that post.
< handbasket hits Ludicrous Speed >

You’re not wrong.

Makes sense to me. (BTW, the males in my house are one human, one cat. We also have a female cat and a bird presumed to be female.)

Hey, I thought it too, they just beat me to typing it! Guess that means there are two minds amongst us.

Looks interesting - thanks for the suggestion!

{{sari}} Definitely do one thing at a time - your plate is overflowing.

:scream:

It’s too warm on the south side of the house, and the north side‘s not better. At least the interior is cooler than outside. Today‘s supposed to be the hottest day this week, but the lows keep creeping up, which makes it difficult to sleep.

Got a really good watermelon from the discount store, and I added some feta. Now I have a craving for Greek food, but not tonight.

Spent much of the day appreciating my office‘s air conditioning and fighting with PowerPoint. It really doesn’t want to be cooperative.

Watered the tomatoes and need to give the pine tree more water. I somehow managed to get sap on me earlier- can’t remember the last time I got sap on my hands.

El Jefe is setting something up in the conference room. In the basement. My basement! I may have to shut the door!

I brought in some Trader Joe’s Cookie Butter cookies for the gang. They seem to like those best.

Actually, El Jefe just shut the door, saying ‘I don’t mean to be rude, but you don’t want to listen to this.’

Now I want to know…

Nothing on his calendar. Sounds like a board meeting.

Oh, gawd, now we’re all curious!

OK, plumbers have left and it looks like this time the fix has taken, I will monitor my water meter for the next several days but there is little if any motion on the dials, so hopefully it was worth it. Stopped at Kemp’s and hopefully will have someone out Moanday (one the concrete sets) to reset the carpet in the walk-in closet and set the 4 tiles that they had to destroy to get to the major leak. And then maybe I can forget about this–until the next house problem (there are always home problems).

Now just need to work up the ambition to go to the gym for awhile.

Flyboy, must admit I’m curious too…might be a board meeting, might be a “Come to Jesus” session with some cow-orkers, or most likely something pretty mundane. But if you find out…

Dicey, Powerpoint does simple things well; but when you try to get creative, then the problems come. IMHO as always; YMMV.

OK, need to change and head off to the gym to make a bike go nowhere. All y’all take care.
