OOOH wookit the yiddle fuzzy babbies! WANT
Years and years ago, the sliding screen on the back doors got stuck. Frustrated, I pushed too hard in the middle and buckled the frame. I bought three replacement doors, and had to return all of them because – in spite of the measurements – they wouldn’t fit. Eventually I figured out why the door was stuck and, more importantly, figured out how to keep it from getting stuck (silicone lubricant or WD-40). It pretty much works, though you can’t push where the handle is and it works best if you start opening with your toe. For years, that damned door has been an irritant; but not irritating enough to do anything about it. Until today.
Today I made a repair. I got a strip of 1/16 x 1.5 inch aluminum and cut off a foot. I filed the cut edge, held it up to the door, and chose my four, staggered, hole locations. I drilled the holes and used the self-taping screws I had in a cupboard to secure the strip onto the 1.5 inch wide frame. But how do I straighten it? A C-clamp, of course! I put the C-clamp over the width, and tightened it until the frame was as straight as it was going to be and the aluminum strip was pretty close to flush with it. Last two screws in, and it’s ‘fixed’. SWMBO will either be impressed, or she’ll roll her eyes and sigh. I’ll find out when she gets home.
Just went out - all cats are gone. Maybe Mama thought I was a threat. Or maybe she’s a local and she took her babbies home? I left the water and kibbles out there - if they don’t eat them, a passing possum might.
Quiche was YUMMMM!! It’s a lot better with ham than with the fake crab, much as I like fake crab. The four little ones are in the freezer - they’ll go to FL with us.
And so ends the day…
Wait… What?
Had an episode of SVT today. Even with beta blockers, my HR was 130 bpm for 4 hours. Drove to the ER and they had to chemically convert. That’s about 5 seconds of scariness, but my heart went back to normal. I will be seeing an electrophysiologist MD to talk about ablation. I am not amused. I stopped at Culver’s for a therapeutic root beer float which was gone by the time I drove the mile home.
doggio, my smart TV is a Roku stick in a port of a regular one.
JtC, no pics of GG’s struggle? (crawls into the handbasket with doggio).

Glad they got your AC fixed silenus.

Good on you, flyboy making a long needed repair. I have many around the house that have gone neglected for years.
Cute Kittehs
Thanks. SWMBO saw it and said, ‘Good idea!’
Howdy Y’all! Been home from men’s night over to the church house for a while but have been chillin’ for a bit before postin’. 'Twas fun as always and we had a good crowd on hand. Even had to get more plates and stuff out. I’s tahrd though. I think beddy bye shall be shortly.
MetalMouse here hopin’ the plumber is able to figure out everything tomorrow.
{{{shady}}} hope things get better for ya.
Quietly glad the a/c is workin’ again. A/C is an absolute must here in the swamp.
MOOOOOOM glad you got your ring back. The kittehs are cute. FCD deserves THE LOOK.
WetOne hope you’re better soonest.
Everyone else, yays, boos, hugs, trouts, noogies, chitlins and how you doin’s all around as needed.
Before I bought the house, rubble from construction had been piled up in the back yard. I added to the pile. Now there’s a mound covered with soil made from the plants. As it happens, there’s an area behind the shed that has too much of a slope. I need to move the mound to the depression. Oh, yeah; and dig out a couple of huge stumps while I’m at it. I might neglect that project a bit longer.
My Amazon tp order showed up today. No more worries!
I’ve been busy all day and got a lot done, but I haven’t started to pack yet, and it always takes longer than I anticipate, even with a packing list. So of course I’m here on the Dope.
I forgot to share something with you that makes me smile to remember it. When I left the oncology appointment, I had to walk through the chemo area. One of the nurses started singing, “My boloney has a first name, it’s O-S-C-A-R.” I joined him for the second line, and all the patients chimed in for the rest. What a great guy!
FCM, those are the cutest kittens ever! (Except for current Mumper kitties, of course.) Bless you for feeding them. Question: do you and the Roxstar ever bake together? Your mention of the quiche tarts reminded me of how much my kids liked it when we made a little pie or cake to go with the big one.
MetalMouse, ugh on the extensive leak situation. I hope they get it fixed once and for all.
It all sounds like no fun to me, but nothing is messier or more annoying than turning into a Snuffleupagus. I hope you get some relief from all the health woes soon.
nettie, hope the appointment went OK, and I really hope you get some quality zzzzz’s tonight.
shady, sounds like a rough time. I hope tomorrow’s better.
BooFae and the others over there: I hope you survive the heat wave. I also live in a place with no air conditioning because “You never need it.” (Hah!) I take lots of cool baths.I hope you can find ways to keep relatively cool. Climate change scares me silly.
Ha! Stealing this. SOOO great! Also, hi, Pearl!
Oo! Lucky you! The first time I ever had cheese curds was at Tillamook. I thought the bit about them squeaking when you chewed them was exaggeration. I was so surprised when one squeaked that I dropped my handbag. I hope you get some ice cream while you’re there and take a photo in the Love Loaf!
teelabrown and sunny, hope you escape the plague unscathed!
Oh, crud. The tension rod above the washer-dryer I use to hang up clothes just fell.
Now HOW did someone make it through 2020 without developing a compulsion to have at least a few months’ stockpile?
I’ve been getting the 30-roll ones from Costco. The Spousal Unit uses a lot of toilet paper, and it’s cheaper than getting it at Rite Aid.
Happy Moonday!
Happy Birthday Wheelie
Was cloudy at the park this morning, but nice. Not many showed up, so it was peaceful. My two are tired after a trip to the armpit.
The trip to the armpit was annoying. I hate Rt 70.
At one point we were doing 80 down a steep incline and the asshole behind was so close I could see only half his hood and his windshield. That is too close for comfort and I couldn’t go any faster than the cars in front of me, and couldn’t move over so it could pass me.
There are parts of 70 where a third lane opens on the right for slower traffic, ie: the trucks who are struggling to get up the mountain. Yesterday, all the speeders were using that lane to pass everybody, so even though I was doing 75-80 in the middle lane, I had people whizzing past me on both sides.
Until the idiots in the right lane come up on a truck.
Fucking crazy.
I had a nice visit with my family, uncle and cousins.
A lot of laughter and old stories.
My son went down to the basement and took a nap. Echo learned to jump the fence.
When my cousin left, she said, I’m not going to cry. I said, please don’t.
My mother looked good and seemed to enjoy the visit, other than her legs were leaking. We called hospice and they said she has to put her legs up to get the swelling down. She didn’t take her water pill, and didn’t want to take it. She is supposed to drink 64 ounces of water a day. My niece checked her cup and she had only drunk about 4 ounces. She says she doesn’t like water, but she doesn’t like flavored water, she doesn’t want anything. She doesn’t want her legs up because it’s uncomfortable. We tried other positions and she still wants her feet on the floor.
She can’t roll over in bed anymore. Both of my nieces had to help her in the shower yesterday, one had to hold her upright in the shower chair while the other one washed her.
Hospice came out today with the hospital bed, and now she is on oxygen and morphine. They are going to come out more often and take care of the bathing.
Niece1 told me I should go down tomorrow.
I talked with my friend who is my son’s boss and she said to have him call in sick tomorrow.
So, I guess we’ll go back to the armpit. I don’t know if I should plan to stay for a few days, or come back home.
I’m waiting for Niece2 to call me back and tell me more about what is going on.
I can take the dogs with me, but I’ll have to figure something out for the cat. I could ask a friend to feed him, but he’s not going to come into the house with somebody he doesn’t know. I can feed him outside, and I’ll be feeding the entire neighborhood.
I was so mad at her yesterday, after everybody left, she started some of her bullshit gaslighting and manipulating. I let one snarky comment slip out, but managed to hold my tongue.
I don’t know why she has to be this way.
I really am TMIing, aren’t I?
MetalMouse, I heard you, and I don’t want my last words to her to be mean.
I hope your plumbing woes get figured out.
Cute kitties FCM
Sometimes I think about getting another cat, but with my dogs it’s too much.
If you do keep them as outdoor cats, you should check to see if animal control has a TNR program. One of the guys at the park was paying for it himself until he found out animal control will do it. They lend him a trap, when he catches the cat, he takes it in. They do the spay/neuter and shots, notch an ear, then he goes back to get the cat and releases it. He has about 5-6 feral cats he feeds on his deck. Every now and then, he’ll get one tame enough to bring it indoors.
I haven’t seen BB&W cat for a while. I did see a smaller version of him on the porch one day.
What’s harder than getting a pregnant elephant into the back seat of a Volkswagen?
Getting an elephant pregnant in the backseat of a Volkswagen.
Funny story about the red vw.
It’s after 10, I am so tired.
So I had ten carts of re-wraps/damaages, almost all of them irregs. Incuding the 117lbs. trailer hitch that fell and almost took out my toe. But I got an Old Fashioned and a bacon cheeseburger, so life is good.
PEARL!
: tacklehug :
Did you notice the new seat cushions I made? If you lift that one up you will find the beer filled ice chest and this one is full of snacks. I figured that if we were going to spend most of our time here, it should be comfy.
I have never once questioned your decision. We rode Harley’s until my hip blew out. Hubs bought his 35 grand trike brand new and then promptly spent another ten grand to make it his.
We have a spare room, but you gotta like cats. Seriously, I hope things get resolved soon, you haven’t seemed very happy lately.
Have you folks tried putting frozen stuff in front of the fans? With the humidity, I’d suggest using frozen bottles instead of open-to-the-air ice bricks.
Cracked up irl.
The times we have had hospice take over care for a loved one, they did a great job. They know what they are doing and how to treat people with dignity even when wiping their butts.
Nope. This is a horrible time in your life, we are honored that you come here to vent. Plus we all like our daily dose of Dogs of our Lives.
So, between hubs getting COVID, our housekeeper going on a cruise for two weeks and then coming home with COVID, it’s been six weeks since she’s been here. I was able to keep the floors swept but she still found another cat while she was cleaning.
We asked her to move us from Wednesdays to Tuesdays because it would be more convenient for us and she was able to say yes without checking. I was sad about that because I thought it meant that she wasn’t busy enough to need to check her calendar but hubs reminded me that she has mentioned that we are the customers she has had the longest and that nobody else ever tips her for Christmas. (That was blurted out when she got her first Christmas card with a 50 dollar bill…Are you sure, nobody tips for Christmas? I didn’t slap her with a dead fish but I felt like it cause it was such a stupid question.)
I had routine blood work done a while back and my doctor wanted to up my thyroid meds (again), then do more blood work in 6 weeks and come back for results. I scheduled everything before leaving the office.
The doctor appointment was for this Friday. A couple of days ago, someone called me to reschedule for Thursday. I’m retired, I don’t have a life, so no problem. Today someone called me to say that doctor wanted to schedule an appointment to discuss my lab work. I said I did have an appointment to do just that thing on Thursday. After much confusion, it seems as though someone hit a wrong button when making the appointment because I wasn’t scheduled to see the doctor, she wouldn’t even be in the same office that day. I was scheduled to get an allergy shot.
I’ve never gotten allergy shots in the past but the pollen has been kicking my butt so I briefly considered just going in and getting jabbed to see what happened.
My new doctor appointment is the second week of August and I have made the decision to lower my thyroid meds because the higher dose is so not working. Since upping the dose five weeks ago, I’ve gained 7 lbs, I’m always overheated and my energy levels are close to zero. I cannot go to the seminar feeling this way.
Up, caffeinated, and sheveled. Off to heave

I just woke from a vivid, detailed dream in which I was researching for - and then writing - an essay about Picasso.
WTF brain, where the hell did THAT come from?!?
