Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN ‘Tis 74 Amurrkin out and partly cloudy (mostly moony?) with a predicted high of 90 with rain/tstorms/apocalypse predicted for later in the afternoon. We shall see. Today we procure provisions and I shall finalize folks for funeralizin’ assistance. Sup shall be leftovers from yestiddy’s sup. The rest of the day shall be taken up with sloth and general overall uselessness as is our wont.
red them’s some purty cards! Nelson just needed to do a little bit of scenery chewin’ actin’. When the urge hits ya just gotta go for it.
Bumba hope Gibbs and your ailments are better today.
VanGo do keep us posted about the pup. When it is a reality we shall expect copious pics. I hate those tree rats as well.
Now I need more caffeine and to feed rumbly tummy. Then, alack and alas, with a pose of woe, I suppose I must needs purtify and don attire appropriate for bein’ amongst the great unwashed. Life is just so difficult!
I suspect they’ve moved on. Naturally, after I bought a bag of kitten kibbles… Guess I’ll just mix it in with the senior kibbles and thoroughly confuse my cats. But I’ll wait, just in case they’re lying low.
I actually hope they did move on, because we’ll be gone the first week of August and I can’t expect my daughter and/or SIL to deal with strays as well as our resident felines. Life is so hard sometimes.
Red - wow! I’m impressed!!
swampy - I expect no less from you. I know you have a cushioned seat in that handbasket!
What kind of pup? Did you apply for a specific one or is this just the preliminary paperwork phase?
We’ve had varied experience with rescue groups - going from “Give us money - here’s your critter” to “We need to do a background check and get a letter of reference from your vet, your pastor, and your third grade teacher.” I can understand caution, but at least 2 organizations we tried to deal with were bordering on bat-crap crazy with their requirements.
We’ve got a hot, humid, rainless stretch of weather reaching into the weekend. And at least one of the things FCD has to do will be uncomfortably hot unless we get there really early in the day on Firday. The things we need to do inside are no biggie, thanks to air conditioning.
He’s got a Dr appt today to discuss pain management - I hope he gets a referral. I’ve got the Tobester again - I need to vacuum before he gets here. Yesterday, I caught him trying to eat cat hair that he found on the rug. ick. I’ll be glad when he gets to toddler stage… I think… Oh, and I need to put the sheet back on the bed where he naps. Yesterday he had an epic diaper leak that soaked the sheet and mattress pad. Luckily, I had a waterproof pad on top of the mattress itself.
This isn’t exactly how I envisioned retirement… < pose of exhausted woe>
Just popping out of lurker mode, where I live vicariously through y’all who have much more interesting lives than I. We are off to a nice B&B in Eureka Springs AK for a few days. I am sure there is WiFi there, but I may just go dark for a while and enjoy the touristy stuff. Have a lovely rest of your week and I will return to my lurkers corner when we get back.
Note: Tomorrow will be my 23rd Doperversary. I also lurked on the old AOL board and finally registered here July 21, 1999.
Afternoon, mumpers! Today is a much better day here, it’s 19c/67f with a predicted high of 20c/69f which is much more what I was expecting for this time of year. Weather app disagrees and says “This weather is pretty fucking stupid” but could quite easily be referring to the last couple of days.
Commuter travel is still messy, all the power lines are damaged around the major station that I would use, so nothing’s going in or out of there. I had to catch a bus to the station this morning, then found out there were no trains at all (despite one of the screens telling me there were trains), walked back to the tram and caught the sardine can to Big City. Then traipsed round the big station to catch another bus to campus which stops at the opposite end to where it’s meant to (bloody commonwealth games road closures already!). I’ll be doing that on the way home tonight so will be leaving early again. Can’t afford to be late home tonight, it’s pub night with my friends!
hippie have a fab trip, come back with pics and tell us all about it!
Moooom any news on the cute kitties? How many are you keeping?
Red amazing work on those cards, I am impressed.
Bumba hope everyone’s aches and pains are better today. I have one cat at the vet tomorrow morning for a follow-up appointment after some anti-biotics, and another cat at the same vet on Friday for vaccinations. Can’t take both together as the Friday afternoon is only for vaccinations and not for any other appointments unless it’s an emergency.
metalmouse fingers crossed that The Leak has given in and moved on…and you get compensated properly for all the annoyance.
Boring day at irk, but at least it’s my last campus day for the week and hopefully all the lunacy will be over by Monday.
red I’m also a paper crafter although my medium is stamping. I’ve realized my favorite thing to make is Christmas cards. So even though it will be86 today, I am looking through my Christmas stash.
Called the electrophysiologist’s office. They have to talk to my cardio. The waiting game begins.
Morning all. Checked the water meter this morning (admittedly with some trepidation) and it had moved a whole 0.1 gallon in 11 hours. So I’m running my dishwasher now and I’ll check again after it is done to get a good estimate on that (at least this experience has made me more water-conscious that I’ve ever been). Outside of that excitement, swimmin’ at the gym and puzzle solvin’ in the newspaper will be the primary activities for the day. Heading to 96F and only a 1-in-4 chance of rain, so probably not a bad day to be inside.
Boo fae, sounds like your commute is a little more trying than usual. Hope the trains get back to running soon.
Hippie!. Hey, an Arkansas vacation is interesting! I wanted to take a week here in July and go driving down to Charleston, SC and Myrtle Beach, but the plumbing issues rather messed that up. Eureka Springs is about a 9-hour drive for me, so anything you want to report would be of interest.
flyboy, VanGo, no angry squirrels but I do have a couple that use my roof as rapid transit and I can hear them running across overhead.
OK, pills popped and newspaper retrieved, so some internettin’ and foraging are on the agenda. All y’all have a good day (or evening) now.
I’ve seen no trace of any of them since yesterday morning. I suspect Momcat relocated them. I’ll give it another day or two before telling the animal welfare folks “never mind.” It’s entirely possible that she belongs to one of the neighbors and just brought her brood out for an adventure. I know I’ve seen her around before I saw the kittehs. Who knows? If you’re gonna let your critters roam free, at least get them fixed! Sheesh!!
There was a commercial on TV yesterday for an artificial Christmas tree!!! OK, it was advertised as their July sale, but dang! Can we at least get past Halloween before Santa bombards us??
According to my daughter, Tobias had a rough night last night. About 9:20 this morning, he got a major attack of the crankies, so I stuck a bottle in his mouth and within about 10 minutes, he was asleep. Then FCD came home from his Dr appt to get stuff before going to the boat. He was filling his soda cup with ice and poured a bunch of the soda into the ice bin. So that’s all been dumped in the sink and I’ve got the ice maker going. I don’t understand why he does such dumb stuff - especially since this isn’t the first time.
But he’s on his way and the baby is sleeping. It’s my chill time.
Seanette, I really hope your follow up appointment goes well! I feel like I hit a certain age and all the doors started falling off without me realizing it. Then I walked into the doctor’s office and the crap hit the fan.
That reminds me…my doctor’s scheduler has been trying to hunt me down to schedule a colonoscopy. So far I’ve avoided it for almost three years, but this doctor is quite persistent. shudder.I’ve put off a lot of medical testing in recent years, and given that my family has an illustrious history of lifestyle related diseases I should probably do something about that.
Grrr.
Just had a rah-rah employee meeting (not mine, our CEO’s). I’m jaded enough I never come away from those things feeling particularly inspired. Mostly it’s just mildly encouraging. Oh, well - head down, do my work (and do it well so I don’t have to lay awake at night thinking of it), log off.
FCM It’s just the preliminary paperwork phase at this point on the puppy. There is one on their site that looked good to me. A Standard American mixed breed red dog. A mutt, in other words. My favorite.
The plan:
WB goes to irregs, since he can drive a train, I go to the 200 slide, since I know how to do all the senior clerk stuff, and some random guy goes to the smalls dumping loft, since dumping bags isn’t rocket surgery.
The reality:
Some random guy is a no show, I’m in Smalls, they pull a guy out of the mez for 200 who only knows half the job, and WB was in irregs, but one guy was still driving 2 trains. By driving one 30 feet, running back, then driving it up to the tail of the first one.
Tomorrow we repeat this.
I go to the county shelter. It’s “Give us $115, and promise not to eat or dogfight this mutt.”
That’s out Flytrap’s way. Watch your CDs.
And Happy Doperversary!
When a baby drinks a whole bottle and falls asleep, it’s cute. When I do it, I’m an ‘alcoholic’.
That got me chuckling. I’ll have to share that with my dad. And maybe a few friends.
red the cards are gorgeous
Hope it works out and we get to see pictures.
I keep forgetting that Wendy’s exists. Since we’re going on a road trip, I’ll probably finally get my chance to get some Wendy’s. The last two trips we didn’t get a chance. But then you’re often talking about yummy food.
The big news of the day is that we got RAIN. It’s still raining, so we might get more than an inch (25.4 mm), as we already had almost 20 mm. I might be able to sleep well tonight - it’ll be dark and rainy - my favorite sleeping weather.
Did get rained on though - my leather sandals might be done for, but they might be okay. They aren’t new, so no major issue if they are ruined.
Last time we had rain was July 4th, and we’ve also been having a heat wave. South of the Alps is much worse, but they’ve already told the farmers they can’t take water out of the creeks anymore, so food’s going to be even more expensive.
Oh well. I’m just going to enjoy the rain, thunder and lightning while I can.
Wifey filled the hummingbird feeders the other day and the next morning they were empty! I thought that maybe the raccoons were back and they had somehow drank (drunk?) all the sugar water. She thought they would have spilled some and made a mess, which wasn’t evident. So she went on Amazon and bought a trail cam. I rigged it up to one of the uprights on the deck and it captured this picture, in infrared:
I just got around to uploading it to her computer. You can see the hummer feeders in the top middle of the picture.
BTW, those big plants to the right of the railing are tomatoes.
Kinda fun, huh?
Swimmin’ and sweatin’ is done, the dishes are all washed and only 12.5 gallons used (also includes a couple of flushes), so I guess the leaks are good and plugged. Now just made it through the August payments and things should be back to normal, at least on the water front.
Bumba, excellent picture quality, I guess raccoons in your neighborhood have exquisite manners…
Dicey, glad you’re getting rain, sounds like a tough summer for folks in that region. Stay cool now.
OK, about half my newspaper puzzles are solved (these are the easy ones; Friday and Sunday are the toughies) and then on to the crossword. Take care all.
Yay on the puppy ap VanGo! I hope to see copious pics soon.
Hope that you and Gibbs are feeling better bumba. You have one tidy raccoon there.
JtC, I’ve been doing cards for a while (I also scrapbook and custom make wedding albums). Those took about 45 minutes - 1 hour each. I have dies and die cutters to help with the fiddly stuff.
Hope that you have a good trip hippy (that sounds like it should involve bears and Grateful Dead music).
wet one, I do Christmas cards year round too. I do some stamping and coloring, but paper piecing tends to be my forte.
metal mouse, :knock wood: I hope that your leak is completely fixed with no surprises.
Thank you all for the kind words about the cards. I began making simple ones about 20 years ago when I spent 45 minutes and $5 for a card that I wasn’t really thrilled about. I got to thinking Dang! I have cardstock and stuff for scrapbooking, maybe I should put them to use for cards. Now, it’s about 50/50, although the wedding albums are far and away more profitable.
Irked, came home, et and fixing to do KP. July is home from its brief vacation, but it didn’t quite hit triple digits today.
Daughter got a really interesting call this afternoon. The headmistress (is that her title?) at the school where she taught is leaving and they want Daughter to take her job. She’s going in to talk with them later this week. Suzanne (the incumbent) wants to leave in 3 weeks, so this has to happen quickly. Some good vibes would be nice…
I thought the kittehs were gone, but when I pulled into the garage just now, I saw them bolt for the underbrush where they’d been hiding. So I took some kibbles and fresh water out. Guess I need to call Animal Control now. It’d be nice to get this resolved before we go to FL…
But I don’t want to think about that now. I just want to chill.
Howdy Y’all! We procured provisions, and then were our usual layabout selves the rest of the day except for eatin’ up sup. I got stuff finalized for the funeral as well. I’ll make a trip over to the church house on Firday to get things just so for Sattidy. I even made up a todo list so I don’t forget stuff. I like the handy todo list app thingy on my phone. I take my amusement where I can these days.
