If I'm off today, why am I starting the MMP?

Car thread; in case anyone is curious.

That will get you out of at least four weeks of Purgatory. Wait; we don’t have Purgatory and I don’t think you do either. I’m not even sure the Roman Catholics have Purgatory anymore, at least not all to themselves. I think I remember something in the news several years ago that they sold/leased it to Baptists or someone. Oh well ---- YEAH SWAMPY!

I and 2 on 3 -------- I’m buying a lottery ticket on my way to work!

{{{{{Hugs}}}}} Sunny. Sorry about the crappy day.

Speaking of rain, we’re forecast to get a lot thanks to the tropical system hitting the Florida Gulf Coast right now. We need some moisture, but I hope the winds calm a lot by the time it gets here. On the bright side, also, either today or tomorrow should break our streak of 90°+ high temperatures. After more than 2 months, 89° is a definite improvement!

Also, my big brother is awesome! I had some panels for outdoor kennels that I didn’t need. Told him he could have 'em. Happy birthday or something. So he came and got them out of my way this morning. The back yard looks better already.

But since he had the trailer hitched up anyway, he brought me an old riding lawnmower that was in his way. Nothing fancy, but he put a new battery in it and explained its quirks and now I have myself a real live riding mower! When it’s 98° out and grass is threatening to swallow the children, dogs, and vehicles, that acre of mowing won’t seem so daunting. Hooray!

More good stuff: finally found something that actually seems to be working in my summer-long battle with roaches. (Thanks to a recommendation from another thread here.) And it’s a gel bait, so I can use it around kids and pets. Advion, in case anyone else needs to know.) Da bomb, I tells you!

off to the doc’s for my regular check up and to have him fill out some paperwork for my SSDI hearing, which I’ve been told by my lawyer is on 10/26, but I’ve yet to receive anything from the SSA about it, so take that with a grain of salt

That sucks about the layoff, sunny. :frowning: I hope that your disability attorney can give you some advice (a lot of companies will lay off or terminate those on LTD. My late cousin’s employer terminated her shortly before her passing, meaning that her husband got none of the term life insurance that was one of her benefits).

Month end has been survived. The department even had lunch catered today: a taco / nacho bar from a reputable local TexMex restaurant. It was good.

Dammit, the day seemed pretty promising until I bragged about it.

Tony dropped his money clip in the bathroom at today’s therapy appointment. Went to the bank to cancel the debit card. Went to the sheriff’s office to file a lost property report (so he can get a replacement copy of his driver’s license.) While leaving the SO, he spotted a hitchhiker heading for Pennsylvania. Called me to tell me that he was giving the man a lift a few miles up the road.

That call came about an hour after the news posted an alert - stolen truck, high speed chase, crash, suspect got away on foot. No description of suspect. Cue me, freaking out, trying to let Tony know to be careful, without raising any alarms for the total stranger in the passenger seat. (Yeah, I know. I don’t pick up hitchhikers. Tony does.)

Anyway, now Tony has been pulled over. He was hurrying back to pick up the girl from school. Probably a ticket for speeding and driving without a license on his person.

And the boy seems to have either a stye, pink eye, or something similar. At least his first broadcast shift tonight is on (student) radio, because he looks awful!

Gah!

Today has been a bit sucky for me as well.

Nothing too horrible, just grumpy and achy.
Third day of school and he’s already frustrated with the assignments - like for his Geology class, if you were a rock what kind of rock would you be and why? He hates those kinds of questions. I told him to pick something hard, to match his head. Maybe a geode, you have to get past the surface to find the interesting stuff. Is a geode even a rock?
I think I would be a boulder, a big lump that is impossible to move.

Glad I never had a class like that Geology class, altho when I was a student, I wasn’t nearly as snarky as I am today. How idiotic!!

Supper was jazzed-up Hamburger Helper. I added mushrooms, onions, a squirt of ketchup and a glug of burgundy. It was quite tasty. I’s stuffded!

Howdy Y’all! Dindin has been ingested and the kitchen is clean. Plus, leftovers for tomorrow night, so win-win! Neither of us minds leftovers which is a good thing. We are under a tropical storm watch and it looks all stormy southwest of da cave from whence most of our rain comes. Later this evenin’, tomorrow, and Firday could be stormy days with high winds and such. Peaches looks like it’s also on the way to you. Plus, sorry about the sucky day.

OK, Ima go look outside and see what the storm situation looks like. I’d love a good soaker for a couple of days.

ETA: Sari sorry your day has been sucky as well.

It’s a bit after 6, my husband (who is sick) is sleeping) and i have no idea what or when dinner will be. I am not hungry, at the moment, anyway, but I am sure my appetite will sneak up on me soon.

I have a very expensive multi-purpose display sitting on my desk that I have to turn into a reasonable computerized representation. That means I don’t have to sweat exact dimensions - it’s just got to look good. I can make it look good.
[/QUOTE]

Sure, but swampy or I can make it look fabulous!

Doing the Every Three Years New Work Computer Cha-Cha today. I *hate *the cha-cha… The instructions in the box with the new laptop were incorrect, and while the help desk’s workaround was effective, it was hugely time-eating. Now I just have to hunt down all the stupid little creature-comfort settings. The help desk agent was joking how it’s been her experience that people who’ve been with the company for a few years do not look forward to new computers. No argument there…

I don’t think my boss could handle a display that looks fabulous! But I have to say, the one I created looks damned good, and it fit in the panel just as it should have! Yay!

I worked, got shit done, now I’m off. Work that is. I declare it Italian Night, so martinis, Harris Teeter olive bar appetizer, Herbed Chicken and Three Cheese rice for dinner, with Parmesan pepper spinach.

We do, and after the Sisters of Mercy joke I told at Convention, I better pack for a reeeaallllly long stay. :D;)

And lime.
And tequila.

{{{{Peaches}}}} sorry the day went bad for you.

You live in Pittsburgh ,and your car is emitting a whine. You ran over Sidney Crosby!:D;)

doggio, IMO, purgatory would likely be where the cool kids are. Not bad enough for hell, but a whole lot more fun than the goody-two-shoes crowd in heaven.

Whiskypalians don’t do Purgatory. We prefer straight to Heaven where the really good Bloody Marys are.

We are now under a Tropical Storm Warnin’ and a Hurricane Watch. So, for sure tropical storm but could be a hurricane sometime tomorrow. Either way it means lots of rain and high winds. I shall be most happy to stay in da cave. I need to make a pound cake and do some food prep for Sattidy’s cee-mint pond soiree so works for me. TWPTB are still sayin’ Sattidy will be nice. We shall see.

Huh… Today I learned that a lot of people on the Dope, who specifically identify themselves as sports fans, hate my favorite sport.

Which is?

Or almost anyone who ever played for the Steelers. I’m heading over to check that thread shortly but the mystery deepens. Got in the car to go to work and the noise is now gone. I hate it when things break and won’t stay broken long enough to get fixed. :smack:

But I love rugby! Played it at the club level for ages!

(Hey – that could be it after all.)

Looks like we’ll get some weather Friday.

I had a roomate who was the match secretary for the Wolpack Club team. But since he was a lazy ass slacker, and never home, I ended up with the job.:dubious: But it did get me invited to to some pretty awesome after match parties.
