If you're over 60, post a lot, and have a sick sense of humor, log in here

Happy Birthday HarmonicaMoon and anyone else celebrating this month/year/century.

I dont have a cake but here’s my HAPPY DANCE for you!

OMG a shrink in our midst! My experience (LOT of that) with them has been that they are the most fun and wacky of all!

Zeldar, You are quite welcome. It is my gratitude to you that must be expressed for welcoming me onto your gathering thread. I am a hobbyist fan of thesauri, and love etymology, the history and derivation of words.

Happy Birthday to those recently celebrating!

Do you also enjoy word puzzles and such? If so, try http://ecrostics.com/ if you haven’t already.

Thank you for the link, Zeldar.

Zeldar, I’d be up for anything that would provide amusement for the masses. I feel a debt to Dopers who go the effort of keeping this place rolling. The few threads I’ve started have been middling successful, at best. And, of course, I’m not the only therapist-type who haunts these Boards…

Did I miss any Birthday Folks when I looked back to see these:

FairyChatMom
Shodan
HarmonicaMoon

I saw some refer to “next birthday” but it sounded like a time in the future.

Surely everybody knows that if you get 50 random people together that the odds are greater than 95% (I think) that some two of them will share a birthday. I guess we have no grounds to doubt that here.

Shonuff! Let me know if you like that one. I have to play every puzzle. Have yet to work today’s, though. Some of the quotes have been amazing!

I’ll look for some of your threads, and I know we have crossed trails before. Other than shop talk what else is a big thing for you that other geezers might like to get into?

Well, I started kids a bit later than most, so I’m parenting 2 teenagers. We all generally share the same cultural touchstones, of course. I’m probably most active currently in Elections but I look into every forum for whatever strikes my fancy. Not sure I can come up with any unique ideas for topics at the moment. When baseball resumes I’ll be all about the Dodgers for a few months.
You?

Fair enough. I gravitate toward Cafe Society, The Game Room and a smattering each of IMHO, MPSIMS and GQ. I avoid the Pit and Great Debates and have occasional reason to see what’s happening at ATMB. I usually just look at “New Posts” and head toward the topics I like and things I’m already active in.

In Sports, it’s almost exclusively SEC college football but I do follow the Titans. Otherwise, it’s a dead year between the bowls and late August. My SDMB activity is my fallback in that part of the year.

As for family, I have three adult kids and four grandchildren. Parents are gone as are my wife’s.

What about major hobbies and interests. Anything borderline unique for you?

Okay, gang. I have a challenge for you. If you aren’t familiar with The truly great threads in SDMB history which I started back on 03-01-2009 and which (miraculously in spite of its multi-zombie status) is still alive as a thread, then hopefully you have learned elsewhere of the classic The rock in the box: I burning your dog which ran from 08-08-2003, 07:30 AM
until 09-06-2003, 10:00 AM before being closed because (one must assume) the OP was banned.

With that as background, (and you will laugh till it hurts if you read that thread for the first time), there is now a new in-progress rival I think my pet rock is sick. started Today, 10:53 AM by armedmonkey and bringing some wit to rival that old thread,

I have bumped the “Truly Great Threads” thread several times before with updates and appeals for others to contribute their own finds. But if any of you have encountered a thread that stands out from the rest in terms of its raw power to make you laugh, if you don’t feel up to posting a link to it/them in that thread, then maybe you can post here for our enlightenment.

It doesn’t even have to be GREAT (in caps) as long as you think we geezers might get a gut laugh or two.

On with the show!

I am over 60, and have a very unusual sense of humor. I tend to lurk here more than I post, but this thread is pretty interesting.

Glad to have you aboard. Of the 37 (last i counted) who have posted here, 15 or so have just posted once. So you needn’t worry about not posting often unless it feels right to you. Lurkers are welcome!

What, we’re supposed to have mental health? Don’t be silly.

Or rather, by all means be silly, but don’t take it too seriously.

“Stay sane inside insanity.”
-Columbia in RHPS

I had to look up RHPS and (believe it or not) I have yet to see that movie! I’m going to have my work cut out for me (what with Firesign Theater and other things that have passed me by) to get current with you folks.

I suppose the closest I have come to “Stay sane inside insanity” would have to be One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest (1975) where I first became aware of Danny DeVito.

Gracias to all of you for the birthday wishes. Had a terrific day. Went to three cantinas. Celebrating the event. Someone gave me a muffin for my birthday cake. Skyped with my beautiful daughter who lives in WA State. Everything perfect until I read a post from Balance that said the ghost ship full of huge, gnarling cannibal rats does not exist. I was so looking forward to the video of this event. Hopefully Hollywood or BBC will make something out of it. My imagination has taken me where no man has gone before. Maybe I will write the screenplay. Can someone help me with the music?
Saludos.

If you’ll overlook the fact that I haven’t been following more then headline deep in that Rat Ship story, harmonicamoon, I can pass on some impressions (more like flights of fancy) that may be useful in your screenplay, maybe not. I won’t try to go deeply into the music aspect either, except that Offenbach may apply.

The Flying Dutchman has come to mind. And since flying rats are bats, maybe Batman will take over that boat as an offshore cave in emergencies. Either that or have a new anti-hero Ratman plotting to overthrow Nova Scotia or the Hebrides.

That’s all I got for you. Wish I had more details on what’s going on. Why does it suddenly not exist, do you know?

Super-duper Zeldar! I think we are on to somethin’! Maybe we can get a part for that guy that plays Sherlock, I think his name is Cumbersnatch. I can see us accepting the Oscar right now! Whatcha gonna do with your loot?

Can’t decide. Maybe buy me a ratproof boat or take a boatload of snakes to Guam. I surely won’t be heading to the Bermuda Triangle.

Think about an update to Jabberwocky with Cumbersnatch instead of Bandersnatch as the bad guy. And let Ratman work some kind of shady deal with him.

It needs a female, so maybe Judi Dench or Raquel Welch?

Yo, harmonicamoon, before we continue with that story idea (love it!), I wanted you to know that my wife Zoe would like you to know that she really likes your username. She sort of collects harmonicas and has one small enough to carry on a keychain and another one that changes keys with a slider like thing. And her real pride is a sterling silver Tiffany’s one that is a real treasure.

Her tastes for players range from Sonny Terry - Freight Train Rollin’ On to Lee Oskar performing “Low Rider” at Master Class in Harmonica to Toots Thielemans - Bluesette but wants you to know as well that her playing (and the tune she really know well enough to play) are more like Harp Recordings - Sweet Betsy From Pike.

Do you play? And who do you wish you sounded like?

(Other harmonica fans here are welcome to reply as well.)

Good morning freaky ones!

Glad you survived and enjoyed your Bday celebs HarmonicaMoon!

I have nothing to add to the great harmonica discussion other than that I enjoy a good tune, but I like this anonymous quote about insanity:

“I have no desire to be considered sane within an insane society.”

Have yourselves a good one, all!
