So you know we’re shorthanded when all the full time supervisors are unloading, sorting, and loading trucks. And today was the lowest volume day of the week.
It takes a child to raze a village- FairyChat family motto.

Stealing.
Oh joy, the power just went out for 30 seconds, while the CNC was in the middle of a job. At least it was only about 5 minutes into a 45 minute program. Don’t think I’ll re-start it just yet.
Big booms of thunder and much wetness from the sky.
cookie Interesting addition to hash-browns. Can’t say I haven’t done the same…and keep the mandoline far far away.
I actually did these things. Well, partially, as there are still things to be ironed, but I at least ironed the blouse I’m wearing, plus the blouse for tomorrow.
The blouse I am wearing seems to be a magnet for food. I have spilled cappucino, salad dressing and water (multiple times) on it. Of course it is mostly white. Fortunately it has a lot of stripes, so it helps confuse the eyes.
Probably should pick the tomatoes and do some of the other chores on my list, like dump a big pot of water down the bathroom sink drains. As neither sink has a stopper, it’s not possible to fill the sink and let it drain, so I have to use another method. This was recommended by the plumber when he unstopped the sinks.
I can say this. As long as a week lasts about 60 days. Actually, I don’t usually do the dusting, hubby does. I just have to add it to a list, which he prefers.
In the previous week’s MMP, there was discussion about how big this handbasket needs to be. Considering we have Wheelie to drive, I think a train of handbaskets could be an idea.
I hope the humming birds have better eyes than me - I thought you said you put it in the smoker.
Have you ever tried steaming the eggs? I was amazed how easy it was to peel the eggs. Not sure these are the right directions, but it’s similar.
I hope this is without a hammer. The thumb’s already suffered enough for one day, right?
Maybe we will get some more rain tonight. And then tomorrow evening, and then all day Thursday and Friday. Hope so. We really need it.
The internet router was having issues last week - it restarted twice, which my husband found highly annoying, so he called the internet company. The helpdesk (New York guy in southern Switzerland) said the router’s basically getting old and needs to be replaced. So a new one showed up in the mail today and hubby installed it without too much trouble. Hopefully that might take care of our mysterious Sunday evening WiFi crashes as well.
The one downfall of the rain is that I suddenly have lots of mosquito bites. No fun at all.
I bought four dog beds a while back for our cats. They are all the same size and shape because I didn’t want anyone to complain that I bought the other one a nicer bed. You’ve seen pics of GG in his bed, which he has pretty much outgrown:
You have also heard of GG’s nemesis and arch enemy, Not So Good Cat. Knowing how big and strong GG is, many of you probably have a mental picture of a big, fierce looking cat that we have to keep locked away from GG for his protection. I finally managed to get a pic of the camera shy bully cat in his bed…which he hasn’t even come close to out-growing…
You’d think that I’d have learned to wear a glove after 50 years of making hash browns, buy you’d be wrong. And I wasn’t cutting too close; the potato was just slippery.
I just pulled a bag (partial bag) of hash browns out of the freezer. Supper tonight will be Perkins’ potato pancakes, because FCD lurves them.
The kids are home and quiet reigns. I stopped by CVS - 6 cars in the drive-thru and 4 people ahead of me inside. Lots of sickies in this county, I guess. I ran to Food Lion hoping to get some Diet Coke on the last day of the sale. Nope, just the regular stuff left. So we’ll see if what we have lasts till the next sale.
That’s pretty much it for this afternoon.
We eat a lot of eggs, especially when I make mini-frittatas. I’ve been saving the egg cartons to give to a cow-orker, but his hens aren’t laying so they’ve been piling up on a shelf in the orifice. Like, three dozen of them. El Jefe, for the Office Cleanup Day, suggested I remove them. I tried posting them on Nextdoor, but the moderator seems to have taken the post down because it wasn’t a ‘for sale’ post. I was going to post it as a ‘for sale’ freebie, but a photo was required and I didn’t feel like going out to the car to take one.
Anyway, I snapped a pic when I got back from lunch today, and posted a ‘for sale/free’ post on Nextdoor. I got a message from someone who says they can always use egg cartons for when they get bulk donations of eggs. I hope she takes them. It would be nice for them to go to a good cause.
Good on you for recycling! It shouldn’t be that complicated.
Folks out this way will avoid the issue by saying something like “I don’t have a picture of the egg cartons, so here is a picture of my cat.” As a Nextdoor lead, I just assume that everyone knows what egg cartons look like and appreciate a surprise pet picture.
The storms managed to get water into some of the bird seed bags so I had to throw the ruined seed away. Hubs has a couple of new fermenting buckets on order and I’m going to start using his old ones for the bags of seeds. The yard flock won’t starve to death, it was mostly the expensive treat seeds that got ruined. They will get their dinners, just not their desserts for a few days.
My daughter is all excited - earlier this year, she dug up a rose bush that was randomly in her woods and she planted it by the house. For a while, it was really pathetic looking - she thought it had died.
She just sent me this photo:
Looks like the rose likes its new home!
Supper was good, and there’s some batter left over for a few more pancakes. Not tomorrow, tho - FCD has to go to Baltimore to see his spinal surgeon. It’s a followup appointment. Wish I could go with him, but I’ve got a babby to wrangle. It’s about 2 hours each way - much too long to even consider taking him along.
Dishwasher is washing - it’s time to chill!!
Lead? Is that what they’re called? Anyway, she sent me a generic picture of an egg carton for me to post in a ‘for sale/free’ ad. But I have dozens of cartons, not just one. And yeah, I think most people know what an egg carton looks like.
I wasn’t finished with my last post when a big white paw reached through the back of my keyboard drawer and posted for me while my back was turned.
I love my cruise control, it actually sets at 25 which is great because I have issues with my speed creeping up too.
The rain made the ground wet enough to bog the car down somewhat and the steps are leading up to the neighbor’s yard, not his house so it’s OK that they got a little cracked. I know that neighbor will want to get them fixed, but there isn’t any real hurry because they don’t use the steps anyhow.
Nobody shut the car door after the drunk was cuffed and taken away in the sheriff car and the neighbor’s kid picked up all the bits of broken glass and plastic then tossed them onto the driver’s seat. There was also a good bit of rain before the tow truck arrived to impound the car. Yes, that was pretty petty. Yes, I do approve.
I hate it when I do that. Hubs proclaimed many years ago that mandolines were outlawed in our home because both of us were equally likely to lose a finger or two with one.
Yep. It’s a volunteer position, I only took it because I was getting into so many fights with trumpies and I knew that being a lead would force me to self moderate my posts. I don’t argue with them anymore, I just post the rules being violated by political discussions and then shut them down. Ditto for masking and covid, no more arguing, I just point them at facebook, post Nextdoor’s rules and shut them down.
Welcome back 2gig! Come back and hang out when you can.
seanette, if you want reallllllllly smooth deviled aig filling, a hand mixer will do the trick.
JtC, the dog beds that you bought are the same kind that Nelson has in his crate.
Irked, came home in a sprinkle, walked Nelson and et. I’m making out a packing list for this weekend’s trip. I’m also debating on whether to leave Thursday or Friday. Thursday would give me an extra day with Dad, but Friday would give me a day of getting stuff done for the trip.
Stay safe and healthy y’all!
I’m growing to hate Fedex. Don’t come to a business at 5:30 for delivery. Do the delivery when you are usually there, at around 11 AM. I really don’t wanna drive to Horseheads to get the damn thing at their place. Maybe they’ll come tomorrow at a reasonable time. Looking at the history, it got on the truck at 6 am.
Howdy Y’all! Laundry and sloth got accomplished. No quality cee-mint pond time cause it’s been cloudy most of the day. TWPTB say we will have rain/tstorm/apocalypse for the next four days. We shall see. Oh, sup got fixed and et. It was soooooo good if’n I do say so myself. Plus, leftovers for tomorrow, so win-win!
MOOOOOOM I have watched four and five year old soccer games. They are a hoot! Somebody might or might not actually kick the ball. Lots of runnin’ around, gigglin’ and screamin’ ensues. I think the main reason parents encourage it is because it might wear the little boogers out.
On my iPhone browser, this is where the first line of your post ended. I must admit to being somewhat disappointed when I saw “browns” at the beginning of the next line.
Mrs W is out of town for the next three nights, so I’m a temporary bachelor. It’s not as exciting as you might think. I’ll probably order from the pizza place she doesn’t like, watch a James Bond flick or two, and maybe mix myself an Old Fashioned.
It’s just nice to have a little alone time in my own home, which almost never happens anymore.
SF kids go back to school tomorrow. Not a minute too soon. I swear, half the kids in the City used the last day of their summer vacation to go to the zoo. It’s been a long busy summer and I is tired.
wheelz You’ve got a different view of kids going back to school. My commute takes me past the schools, both high and middle, and when the kids are going the parental drop offs makes for a huuuuge increase in traffic. What’s wrong with them taking the bus anymore?
But enjoy your pizza and home alone time!
Yeah, my commute is now officially over the lightness due to summer break. I have to leave about fifteen minutes earlier because of back-to-school traffic. When I was a young’un, mid-September was back-to-school time.
The kids in my town started a week and a half ago. Both ways home involve school zones @ 15 mph.
