Naw, do you think my sister would ever give me the opportunity to make a decision for her? She and the brother-in-law decided about 6 or 8 years ago (well before they started dating, even), that it’d be Matthew if a boy, or Kate if a girl. Maybe they’ll let me pick if it’s a hermaphrodite…
Not that I have anything original to say, but Congratulations, Man! If you don’t get to name your niephew, do you at least get to control any aspect of her/his life? And though I’m afraid to ask, if the baby’s being a boy would make you an Uncle, and if the baby’s being a girl would make you an Aunt, what would the baby’s being a hermaphrodite make you?

And yeah, you’ll get to control aspects of the kid’s life, particularly if you pull babysitting duties. I got one of my cousins interested in reading the Straight Dope, but she’s a little young and pure for this message board.
