I'm Going to Make a Wedding Dress for my Cat

I’m planning on making a frilly little dress for my cat to wear for my wedding so that we can take pictures of us all dressed up with her in her little dress. And maybe a little headpiece, too. I’m sure she won’t mind wearing a dress and headpiece for a little while  (Yes, I’m well on my way to becoming a crazy cat lady. This oughta just about cinch it.)

Okay, featherlou, I want you to take a few deep breaths,

In… Out… In… Out…

Okay, now what your proposing is clearly insane – and that’s fine and all – in fact some of my best friends are insane. But the first step to the return of rational thinking is the realization that what your doing is insane. In fact, my friends could tell you the story of my own personal mushroom-induced belief that monsters were systematically infiltrating the postal system. But that was WRONG! WRONG!! You hear me!? Wrong!!

You’re nuts, crazy, a few beers shy of a six-pack. I’m afraid!!

Marc

You’re almost as bad as that guy who made himself a Peter Pan suit and prances around in it. ::shudders::

Featherlou, you’re only a “crazy cat lady” when your bill for buying cat food is way more than the rest of your food bill combined.

Taking this SERIOUSLY here, guys --!!! – uh, would your cat actually go for this, featherlou? I’ve been around cats who’ve adored me to bits. But they do have pride and dignity. Unless your kitty-cat was a real placid type – is this a go, really?

Ooooh, I’d love to do this for my cat! But a nudist she was born and a nudist she will stay. :frowning: I made an impromptu cape for my boyfriend’s cat, but the poor thing kept getting tangled up in it.

Just make sure to dress her up 10 days before the actual wedding.

It will give you time to heal.

featherlou, two of my cats are Ragdolls (known universally for their laid back temperment), and I doubt they would sit still long enough for a wedding dress!

You’re going to need lots and lots of duct tape, my friend.

If you seriously would like ‘wedding’ photos of your kitty, I would suggest constructing a nuptial background that has a veil attached to it. Pose kitty in front of the backdrop, and shoot pictures at an angle that makes it appear that kitty has a veil perched on her head.

I hope you have a fast shutter speed, as kitty will allow you two milliseconds to snap the shot…

Dear God, am I actually encouraging featherlou’s lunacy? Just because I made a backdrop with angel wings for my cat’s Christmas card pictures last year? Maybe it’s time to become a dog person.

I made a bunny costume for one of my cats one Halloween. Another of my cats I dressed as a princess. Niether of them seemed too terribly disturbed… in fact Sidel seemed to actually LIKE her princess costume… Ding was a little skittish about her bunny suit but she was only in it for about 2 minutes while I took some pictures.

Make sure that whatever it is, it doesn’t restrict movement. Ding’s bunny costume didn’t let her legs move as much as it should have and that bothered her.

You are officially an insane cat lady. Crazy lady. Take heed of Inky, crazy lady.

featherlou, one of two things is going on here…

A) You are insane.

or

  1. That is pretty cool.

While I lean towards “2”, I wouldn’t completely discount “A”.

The Little Woman and I dressed our dogs up every year for Christmas Cards. Costumes, backdrops, props, the works. Every year had a different theme (it was always “The dogs travel the World”, but they were “in” different places) with a different set-up. When we stopped doing it (kids came) people were MAD.

Dressing your cat for your wedding might be a little odd, but it’s “Your Day”, and it is kinda cool. Would this really be the strangest Wedding Related Thing you’ve ever heard of?

I have a little pink tutu for one of my kitties. I made it for her after numerous people commented on how much she looked like a little ballerina scampering across the floor. She looks very cute in it.

I also once dressed my dog as an Old Russian Woman. You know, with a babushka.

Mad. Now there’s an interesting word…

I like the tutu idea. What I had in mind for my cat is just a cape-like sort of dress with snaps at the neck and under her arms (yes, cats have arms), but not an actual “dress” per se. She may tolerate having a cape-like thing on her long enough to snap a picture or two; a full dress is not a good bet for her (either for getting it on her or for her not shredding the dress/me). My fiance has a cat, too - I think it would be the cutest thing ever to dress his cat like a groom and mine like a bride, but even I don’t think that’s ever going to work.
Did I ever tell you about how cats look like they are wearing fur pajamas to me? Apparently, people find this a little strange also. Go figure.

Hey it’s your wedding so whatever you want babe. (btw congratdulations)

Just one question…
You do trim your cats claws?

When I first saw this post, I thought it read I’m going to make a wedding dress FROM my cat. Yikes…

Try using doll dresses. That way you don’t have to make anything. My daughter dresses our cat up all the time and the cat doesn’t seem to mind.

Omigosh. I couldn’t believe this when I read it. missbunny, I hear you! I have thought for most of my adult life that any cat would look great in a pink tutu. I even already said that about oldscratch’s cat, a picture of which I saw on a recent wonderful thread about people’s cute pets. Excellent!

And featherlou, rock on! That sounds like a great idea, assuming it doesn’t freak out the cat too much. I think that will be a totally adorable addition to your wedding.

(I always wanted to raise a clothing-friendly cat from kittenhood. Then I could dress him/her in a variety of cute outfits. Pink tutu for the girl, and maybe a sailor suit for the boy.)

Am I nutz? Sure I am! But I do so thoroughly enjoy it.

Crazy Cat Lady

Cats! I need more cats!
