I'm melting, I'm melting in the MMP!

Happy birthday shoe! :birthday:

We’re drowning. It’s been raining off and on since Friday morning, with some cats and dogs falling from the sky earlier today. We even had thunder and lightning, which is unusual here. Of course, the peonies hae just bloomed, so they’re all waterlogged.

Later in the week it’s supposed to be warm. Plan for Friday night is tapas and sangria. I hope.

I had A/C for 5 years, when were in a 1 bedroom apartment in NJ. Other than that, I’ve never had A/C, and I don’t think we even had a room fan when I was growing up.

That’s changed, and my parents have a few fans, but still no A/C. We have a few fans, and when it gets hot we make sure to close the outer blinds and awning, to keep the sun out. At least we’re on the ground floor. Attic apartments are horrible when it gets hot.

Still considering to take the extra layer off of the comforter. Might do it later this week.

Supposedly I’ve made 1500 posts in 497 visits. How did that happen?

In other news, I figured out what I did with my recipes from my grandmother. Her recipe calls for hard boiled eggs in pimiento cheese. Not sure what that’s about.

Funnily enough, I figured out that I chose to keep 2 of her recipes, which she had already sent me copies of. One of the recipes calls for 1 cup of fat. Maybe I’ll try butter.

Grocery store has mini bell peppers, which are really good. Hope they keep carrying them.

Time to watch something on Netflix and try to get to bed early. If it’s going to be warm in the evening, I won’t be sleeping well later this week.

Happy Moanday!

:musical_note: Happy Birthday to Shoe,
Happy Birthday to Shoe,
I hope Pretzel and Monkey
celebrate with you
(and ratties tooooooo) :musical_note:

I talked with both my kids yesterday and feel better about the whole family kerfuffle. Good thing because my sister called this morning and still has her knickers in a knot.

I started looking into therapists, but there are so few my insurance covers, it’s depressing. ( ) I’ll keep looking. Even though I feel better, I’m not handling life’s little rain showers as well as usual. Something’s got to be did.

It’s raining as I write this. Beats the heat! We did not have a/c when I was a kid. We kids slept upstairs. It was like Purgatory up there. (We were raised Catholic.) The only time in my life I’ve had central air was the few years after my family moved. I’d love it, though. Apartments here don’t have it because “It doesn’t get hot here.” Hahahahahaha.

Hippy, I always enjoy your posts. It’s OK not to post, but I hope shyness doesn’t hold you back. Sweet ride, by the way! I like the water bottles, too.

VanGo, you’re more stoic than I. What’ll be the first hot-water thing you’ll do when it’s fixed? Long, hot shower? Dishes?

Quietly, If you hear “Fee-fie-foe-fum,” run. (Although if you’re not an Englishman, maybe you’re safe? I was never clear on that.)

doggio, hope the plumbing gets fixed soonest. You must be completely out of hot water.

wordy, hope overlygirl is OK. You, too!

Afternoon all. Got a dental appointment for next Thorsday, they needed a whole bunch of information, but were able to e-mail it to me so I got it completed and sent to them. Lots of COVID questions…but none asking if I’d been vaccinated…most peculiar.

Then got the Moanday Jersey Mike’s sammich and did the usual Moanday shoppiing, so that is pretty complete. Noticed that masks were common in Publix, but less than 25% in Wal-Mart…hmmmmm,

Rain seems to have faded away, but still cloudy and about 81F. One nice thing about houses in N. Ali-bama is that most rooms have a large ceiling fan, so you can run it at times like this and be comfortable without turning on the AC.

nellie, glad things are (apparently) settling down. Hope the search goes well.

Dicey, stay dry. Have a few days in a row like that here, you’re expecting to see some old man leading animals 2 x 2…

Lucky, had my HVAC replaced about 4 years ago…pricey, it was, but worth it. And keep after that doc of yours.

quietly, hope the young’n gets to feeling better. And that meetings are easier. And Yea! on the vaccine.

Wizard, glad the AC is working again. And even capacitors aren’t that cheap (I needed a new one, cost $89.95, with Coolant added and the service call, paid over $325). But yeah, HVAC can be a dollar sink… Hope the kids enjoy their various camps–don’t think I ever went to a week-long one, maybe a couple of ‘day’ camps…

doggio, hope the fix isn’t to severe.

Hippie, love the Bikes and the Beetle in the background.

An early hippo birdy to you, VanGo, just in case I forget.

Ok, onward into the afternoon! (is it nap time yet?)

Thanks for the welcome back all!

@nelliebly
Bikes being as scarce as they are, we had no choice of color. When we rolled our bikes out the door yesterday there were about eight bikes left in the show room. Remember Henry Ford said of the model T: “They can have any color they like as long as it’s black.” The way we can tell ours apart is the water bottle mounts. Hers is pink and mine is blue, as are the bottles. definite cliche here…

Happy Birthday Shoe!!!

Hippy I’m glad you’re here.

BooFae it sounds like an excellent weekend. I hope the busy season at work makes the week fly by.

Talky I hope your daughter feels better soon and does NOT have COVID. Sorry about the meeting. I hope your day improves.

Wizard yay for AC! I have long declared that AC is one of humanity’s great inventions.

Lucky I think I know where you are located and I know exactly which farm store you are talking about. We lived there for awhile and my parents were there for many years.

I think today is my last mandatory lay flat day. Hopefully tomorrow I can start doing a bit more. Maybe we’ll order The Habit tonight.

I’ve decided that I want a housekeeper, like Alice on the Brady Bunch. I’m not sure where or how to find such a person, but I’m working on it. I simply can’t do what I used to and the house is unacceptable as it is. My husband is working 2 jobs, and both kids are in school (and disabled). I don’t think it’s fair or feasible to ask them to step up to that much responsibility. We’ll see how this goes…

The temps are coming down a bit and there’s even a chance of rain. I’ll believe it when I see it.

Now I must find out what the puppy is eating. Ugh. He has questionable ideas of “food”.

Happy Shoe Day

Tis nice and sunny here today; no aircon here, unsurprisingly, just open windows. It’s not too hot, unless some lunatic decides to turn the heating on.

After irk being ssssssssssssssslllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllloooooooooooooooooooooooooowwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww to the point my brain started dripping out my ears yesterday, today everyone decided to catch up at once, and it all got manic- plus I’m pretty sure one of the companies we deal with an awful lot was having eejit day. Either they just hired someone new or they need to.

Hopefully it sounds like they may let me go properly remote, meaning I can carry on irking - and, more importantly, getting paid- for a few months once I move, filling the gap until my Cunning Plan hopefully starts. I was expecting to live off savings, but I hates doing that. I’ll find out for sure in a few days, but they didn’t seem to think it’d be a problem. Now I just need to get my arse in gear in setting up said Cunning Plan…

No coolant was needed. Basically, the A/C was trying to cool the house with slightly cooled off Freon, rather than very, very cold Freon, courtesy of Boyle’s Law. We got out for about $200, which was a quarter of what I was expecting.

One delightful thing we learned when we moved here was that the YMCA sleep away camp was only, like a hundred bucks more than the day camp. My summers were usually split between going to Scout Camp and mowing lawns to earn money to go to another week of Scout Camp. I’m glad my boys are able to go for a week or two.

Laundry dried beautifully - it’s all in and put away. The unpainted half of the basement is cleared so I can finish tomorrow. Roxy’s playhouse was delivered, and FCD and I just finished assembling it. The worst part was putting on the decals - they have to be right the first time because they ain’t coming loose!

Supper will be twice-baked russets - I just stuck them in the toaster oven. After we eat, chillage shall ensue. And I’m thinking I may sleep with Mel tonight. We shall see.

No melting here at Casa Bumba. That was last week when it got up to 98f. We’re looking at high 60s, low 70s this week.
I did grow up in Florid-duh before A/C was considered a necessity for poor people, so know sumpin about melting, howsomever. We have a window A/C unit here and will install a 3 (or maybe 4) head mini-split unit after we sell the house in the valley and have a few dollars to fund projects with. I find that I’m less tolerant of extremes of temperature now that I’m officially an old man.

Happy Birthday, Shoe!!!

Gotta go. Wifey wants her 'puter back.

Happy birthday shoe!

Nice bikes hippy. Enjoy your ride.

I feel your pain about getting appointments with the docs set up teela. While the dermatologist has been done for a month, the dang dentist isn’t calling or emailing me back. I chewed the answering service (hello 1990 anyone?) asking if any of my messages were actually getting through to the office. I told the lady this afternoon that if I didn’t hear back tomorrow, I would be stopping to pick up my records to take to another dentist.

The visit with Sis was a good one. She brought Nelson’s mother’s littermate, Ginger. Nelly-belly got a little jealous whenever I would pet her, but hey. Sis and I went totally redneck yesterday afternoon and set a chair out in the front yard to cut each other’s hair. :stuck_out_tongue: We both lopped about 3" off. We hadn’t done that since we were broke teenagers. She made it to Dad’s this afternoon and will stop by on her way through next weekend.

Stay safe and healthy y’all!

No a/c at work, the hub being built before A/C. or electricity. Or written language. But since we were shorthanded today, I got bounced around, mainly in place with fans. Which was nice.

Well when I ran the cold water, the pressure popped off the hot water handle. I’m now washing dishes in the bathroom.(glad I didn’t run the dishwasher this morning)

This sounds like all kinds of fun. /s When will they fix it?

this week. They’re doing preventive maintenance anyways.

doggio I’m right there with you on the water front. I’ve got to shut off the water to the whole house, since the cutoff to the leaking water heater doesn’t, well, cutoff. So I turn on water when I need it, then shut it off, then drain what went into the tank, elsewise it’ll end up on the floor. This is a colossal PITA. Plumbers coming Wednesday morning. Fingers crossed.

Howdy Y’all! I actually did a thing today. I needed some printer ink cartridges, so I went to :astonished:Wally*World :astonished: and bought three blank ink cartridges. I even impulse bought a wireless keyboard and mouse. I use a laptop but like usin’ a regular keyboard to type most of the time. Also I like to use a mouse instead of the touch pad. I’m old. Git off’n my lawn ya whippersnappers. Sup got cooked and et and ‘twas good, with the bonus of leftovers for tomorrow’s sup. It’s been rainin’ off and on all day which has been kinda nice as we need the rain.

Wizard yay for fixed a/c! Growin’ up we did not have a/c until I was around eleven. The folks put in central heat and air. The first in da 'hood. We were also the first to have color teevee. We were the Joneses of da 'hood!

doggio hope all the plumbin’ woes are fixed soonest.

shoe hope you had a good bday!

Ouch. They were replacing the water heater in 204 today. Poor guy was in your situation.

Hope that your water woes are quickly fixed doggio and VanGo.

We never had AC in the house when I was growing up, but did have quite a few box fans. Dad bought window units after all of us kids left home. My first few apartments weren’t air conditioned, so I had box fans in them too. I’ve had AC in every home I’ve lived in since the mid eighties though.

Are you ever going to diaper that cat?

Sup had me within inches of just walking out for the rest of the day today, by yelling a demand down the row that I call her when I got off an unavoidably long call (department I had to consult had horrid hold). MAYBE a total of 10 seconds of human pleasantry during said call got me a three minute bitch-fest (she really thinks fast-food drive-through is too cuddly, apparently) WHEN MY PHONE WAS AUXED FOR AN ALREADY OVERDUE BREAK. Yes, I took the full ten minutes, after advising her at the end of this bitch-fest that I was in fact auxed out and she had just taken three minutes of my break time. My opinion of the (lack of) importance of the conversation went unstated. Not quite ready to napalm the bridges. Yet.

Had quite the struggle to not warn the hapless flock of newbies they should flee while they still could.

Bonus points for an auto-pay coming out well earlier than I expected and much too close to other substantial payments. I have an email in to that utility inquiring about moving the payment date to something that works better, and have done suitable juggling to solve the tangle this created.

It’s definitely Monday. Still eagerly awaiting word on my parachute.

I am 100% behind the title this week, as my a/c is non-functional.

Evening all. Decided to go to 5 Guys for my once-a-month calorie-fest, have now consumed not only tonight’s calories but most of tomorrow’s (but it was worth it, I find their fries damn near addictive). Checking the bank accounts tonight and surprise, the State of Ali-bama has sent me my tax refund; considering I mailed it to them in early February, they took their own sweet time with it. Still, the money will just about take care of my mini-vacation 22-26 June, so that is nice.

Seanette, maybe some secret notes posted anonymously around the newbies locations…

doggio and Vango, hope your water issues are solved soon.

swampy, I also prefer to use a mouse with my laptop instead of the touch pad. I can manage the laptop keyboard, however.

red, glad family visit was good…reminded me I need to call Brother (puts on calendar for tomorrow).

OK, catch up with everyone on 2sDay. Take care all.
