Mine too. Why are so many of us having AC troubles? Snarking on da Dope jinxing our karma? In my defense, I mostly just think the snark.
Up, caffeinated, and sheveled. Off to heave.
Boo, raventhief, hope you get your A/Cs fixed ASAP.
Well I knew it would happen … aunt gave in and turned on the cooler and now its 72 degrees and windy for most of the week …
and 90 percent of the antelope valley use the coolers johnny described
around you only find real ac’s in houses made after 95 or so …
Morning, mumpers! Fun and excitement here today, I am listening in on a council planning inquiry (it’s a public inquiry, I’m a member of said public) relating to a property down the street from home. The property is derelict and the council wants to buy it for redevelopment into flats - the meeting’s not quite what I was expecting, but it’s an interesting thing anyway.
Bright and shiny outside today, apparently 65F out there but I’m on campus and in a deserted office so not getting to appreciate the nice weather. Still, I’m getting some stuff done and that’s what matters. The office only needs to be open until 3pm so I’ll be off home shortly afterwards, and then the delights of grocery shopping tonight. I have leftover chilli in the fridge so we’ll have that for dinner after we get back from the supermarket and I’ve tetris’d everything into the fridge.
Thus is my day.planned.
Good Mornin’ Y’all!! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN ‘Tis 72 Amurrkin out and cloudy with a predicted high of 87 (Well, BRRR!) with rain/tstorms/apocalypse predicted for this afternoon/evenin’. We shall see. Bug guy comes this mornin’ at eight-thirty. I have a doc appointment at ten and then I need to go over to the church house to adjust the thermostat in the Parish Hall. The AA and AlAnon groups that met there prior to the plague have decided to restart in person meetin’s on Turesday and Thursday nights as they did before the plague. Thus the need to make sure the thermostat is set so they can be all comfy whilst there. Sup shall be leftovers from yestiddy.
Now I need more caffeine and to feed rumbly tummy. And, since I am forced to go out and about the public, woe and bother, I suppose I should don appropriate attire.
Happy Tuesday Y’all!
I was almost 22 years old before living in air conditioning. I worked as an apartment maintenance man for a year back in the 70’s and got pretty handy with plumbing repairs. Water heaters are hard to replace for anyone. Last time mine went out I bought one at Lowe’s and paid to have it installed.
Add to that my fear that by replacing my water heater, it sent a message to Mumper water heaters… I apologize most sincerely. I do wish I’d looked at the old one to see where the temp was set. I’ve got the new one at the recommended max, and our hot shower isn’t quite as hot as it used to be. Mostly it’s because of the shower head controlling the mix of hot and cold. When I run just hot in the sink, it’s definitely HOT!! But for now, we’re going to live with it.

Are you ever going to diaper that cat?
The brat had been behaving himself and I’d been making a extra effort regarding their litter box. I wonder if we’ve entered into crotchety old man territory? He’s close to 16, if the rescue didn’t fib to us.
I hope you get relief from your job situation. You’ve got more staying power than I do, altho having bills to pay and crap like that can be a motivator in the worst situations. Good luck!
MetalMouse - I’ll be doing a mini-vacay about the same time - very mini. Daughter, Roxy, and I are going to Baltimore. We’ll do the zoo one day, spend the night at my mom’s, then do the aquarium the next day. Or vice-versa - it depends on the weather.
swampy - sounds like the church should invest in a programmable thermostat - unless it’s incompatible with your HVAC. Those things are great and they’d save every one from making special trips, or worse, from forgetting!
SIL will be dropping off the RoxStar in a couple of hours. I’m hoping to get him to put the truck bed cover back on. I could do it, but I don’t want to. He’s young, and I think he’s the one who took it off. Last time I made a trash run, I had some paper blow out of the truck - I don’t want that happening again, and this week, I’ll be heading back to the convenience center.
And once her mama claims Roxy, I’ll finish the ceiling. I’m tired of dragging it out.
Next project - painting the front doors! They’re a hideous brown. We’re thinking a nice, deep green. If I get really motivated, I’ll do the shutters also. Altho, uninstalling them will be a pain in the patoot, and I will not paint them in place. So we shall see.
That’s a future issue. Let’s just deal with today for now.
Happy Tuesday!!
Good morning everyone.
I missed yesterday because I was out the door at 4:30 am to head to the office. The day super busy.
I did not have AC growing up and have never lived in a home or apartment with AC. I don’t even remember fans in the house when I grew up.
Most of the houses around her until maybe the late 90s or so, were built without AC. My house, built in 2003, was wired for AC, but the furnace isn’t big enough to support it. Consequently, we don’t have AC. It’s rarely hot enough for it anyway, although my internal temp always runs hot nowadays and I wouldn’t mind a little now and then. However, I do like having low power bills in the summer, so for me the trade is alright. I can stick a box fan on a bucket of ice if I need to and it works. And, bottom line, the heat waves generally don’t last long.
It’s been rainy and somewhat coolish here. I’m pretty sure it’s supposed to be rainy right into next week. That’s not uncommon for June.
I’m back to working from home today. I only went to the office to move from a cube into my new office. I had grand plans for getting other things done down there, but, as it turns out, there were far too many other priorities to deal with and I barely got moved into my new office as it is. I’m set up in there and I can finish organizing the next time I’m there. I’m going to have to give serious thought about going down there more often. I don’t want to, but stuff needs doing.
The first big heat of summer is when we all usually turn on our respective A/Cs, and that’s when a fair proportion of us discover that they may be on the blink. Maybe they rusted out over the winter or something.
I’ve learned to calendar a date before the weather heats up (mid-May is a good time) to turn on the A/C and test it out. That way, if we find it needs a repair or a top-up, we can get it done when HVAC repairmen aren’t inundated with repair calls, like they are during the first days of real heat.
The dermatologist’s office finally called me back and we scheduled a skin-check appointment. Unfortunately, late July was the earliest they had, and I’ll probably be going back to the office in early July. So much for getting med appointments out of the way before returning to work. On the other hand, Cologuard notified me that I’ll receive my poop-testing kit in a couple of days. So that’ll be another medical item to check off the to-do list.
Today is gym day. I’ve returned to going to my gym, and the place is nearly deserted at the early hour I attend, so I feel safe.
Taking Nikki to the vet today - payment for which is a birthday gift from my former I.T. Guy (ex-bf). She’s getting on in years, and I just wanna have her checked out. If something happened, that was preventable, I’d never forgive myself.
On topic, Coolio hasn’t been shut off in days. It’s not terribly hot, but it’s hyoooooomid so I keep the A/C running nonstop to hopefully siphon off some of that moisture.
Went to a friend’s last night so I wouldn’t spend my birthday alone. She has, like, six cats, so it was a marvelous evening, chatting and petting all her lovebugs.
We’ve contracted with a local HVAC company for twice-a-year checks on both a/c and heat. With luck, that will help avert a catastrophic failure at the worst possible time, tho I didn’t help when a capacitor blew on the compressor. On the other hand, having a contract gives up priority on service calls and a discount on parts. We see it as relatively cheap insurance.
I went out and noticed the truck bed was full of water - it was parked the wrong way on the slope - so I backed it to empty it. I noticed the wisteria from hell was out of control, and fortunately, I’d charged the battery for the hedge trimmer. Wisteria has been beaten back around the parking pad, as has the forsythia that was blocking the gate by the oil tank. Tomorrow, I’ll get out there with a rake and gather the downed branches. I’d do it now, but Roxy should be here any time and I don’t want to leave it half-done.
I also watered my veggie patch, and I had to punch some holes where the water was pooling. The topsoil is pretty dense and I didn’t mix enough compost in it, dammit. Live and learn. But I do have some babby 'maters on the beefsteak plant and the cherry and grape 'mater plants. And the cuke vines have blooms. So food is happening.
When I get my annual once-over at the dermatologist, I schedule the one for the next year. I’m amazed at how busy they are, but I expect it’s not all about preventing skin cancer. I’ve had a couple of suspicious moles and a single cancer, so I make sure to pay attention. I was never a sun-worshipper, but we spent a lot of years on boats and I did get a few burns.
Think I’ll knit till the kid gets here.
OMG it is pouring out there!

They work very well if you turn them on first thing in the morning. Except in August. ‘Monsoon season’ comes, and it’s too humid.
Morning all. This was my ‘stay in bed until I’m damn good-n-ready’ day, so not up until 9am. Just remembered as I’m typing this that I need top take my pills, so I did to keep my record clean (haven’t forgotten a day yet). Not much on the agenda, 50% chance of rain today and tonight, but tomorrow is only an 80% chance of rain…looks like red may get more than I will, according to Wundermap (Weather Underground).
FCM, don’t have a contract, but do have a HVAC company that calls me ever June to come out and check it…costs $75 just for the visit, not counting Freon, but I concur, it’s nice to have someone checking on it for me.
My vacation is Civil War oriented, down to Vicksburg (they also have casinos), then up to Corinth, visit Shiloh and Dover(Ft. Donelson) and Clarksville (not by the last train) and hopefully meetup with red and Wizard outside Nashville. Might finally get to use the Garmin GPS system I got at Christmas.
shoe, glad you spent some time in company, and with plenty of cats.
Ok, need to consider some nourishment (still not sure I’ve finished digesting that 5 guys meal from last night) and get about life. All y’all have a great 2sDay.
Somewhat humid today at work, but we survived. Hopefully the Canes survive tonight.

down to Vicksburg (they also have casinos)
I’ve been there. Interesting that the Union and Confederate regiments from Missouri ended up dug in across from each other.
Overlygirl is feeling almost entirely recovered this morning, enough to be really mad at me. A few of her friends had a sleepover last night and I wouldn’t let her go. The doc thinks it’s unlikely she has the Big C so didn’t recommend a test, but her friends’ parents probably wouldn’t appreciate me sending my kid over for a game of roulette. Yep, that’s me: life ruiner extraordinaire.
Anyway, it’s humid, warm and cloudy today and I’m hoping for a lovely thunderstorm. Work is bleh. I’ve noticed that I’m most productive between the hours of 7 and 11 and after that, unless I’m forced to make the hamsters in my brain run, the wheels just don’t turn that quickly. Sadly I’m reaching the end of my window. Good thing I hammered out a bunch of stuff already or my day would’ve been more or less useless.

If you’re going down I-65, you’ll be spitting distance from The Battle of Franklin. The Lotz House and Carnton offer tours.

The brat had been behaving himself and I’d been making a extra effort regarding their litter box. I wonder if we’ve entered into crotchety old man territory? He’s close to 16, if the rescue didn’t fib to us.
He’s old enough to start kidney problems. If he keeps up with inappropriate peeing, it’s something to check out.
We’ve gone from 105 a few days ago to 71F today. I’m not complaining about 71F, but boy, our weather is confused.
I think I’ll stay on my back one more day. I wanted to check out some nurseries while it’s cooler, but I don’t think my back is quite ready yet. I think tomorrow should be cooler as well, so I’ll try for it then.
My son gets to pick dinner tonight, so I’m girding my loins for BJs. He picks by dessert offerings usually.
Happy Toesday all.
Back from the vet, with a crabby old lady in tow (howling the whole way up - purring the whole way home) and I dunno what smells imprinted onto the carrier, but Monkey won’t stop sniffing it.
Second vet to tell me they briefly had problems hearing Nikki’s heart, because as soon as someone picks her up she starts purring.
Vet trick: turn on the faucet for a second. The sound of rushing water makes most cats stop purring for a minute.
So, what’s the report on Nikki’s health? She’s like a Mumper mascot now, in a small way belongs to all of us, ya know? Hope that’s ok.
Did she convince the vet to prescribe gooshies and kitty crack 16 times a day?
