Good morning. I did NOT want to get out of bed today which is surprising because I went to bed at 9:30 last night. That’s a pretty early bedtime for me. Still, I managed to roll out of bed and shower and was downstairs by 0425.
Yesterday was super busy with moments of frustration, but that’s work. I was required to participate in some government purchase card training. So, 90 of us are sitting there waiting on Teams for the presenter to start and we’re all wondering what the hell is going on. Finally, some people emailed team members in PMO, and the initial response, "No, that training doesn’t begin until something thirty. Our response was, well 90 of us can’t be wrong. Our calendar invites said 8:00 pacific, 10 central, 11 eastern. There was back and forth and finally nearly 30 minutes after the training was to begin, someone came on to start. THEN, the training wasn’t even about the subject in our calendar invites. Many eye rolls and PMs ensued. All of this has been a total shitshow from the beginning and none of us even LIKE purchasing anyway. We all have a gazillion other things to do, they’ve lowered our limits, although everyone else in the Fed got their limits raised, and we’re just hamstrung by all of the new rules, which they haven’t sent out to us. One of the presenters commented that some of the documentation requirements have been in place since 2018, at which point I spoke up and said a good many of us weren’t working for this organization in 2018 and did not have the regulations, guidance, and notices she was talking about, and, furthermore, NO ONE had ever sent us that stuff. They were asked if a SharePoint site could be created that would have all the guidance, notices, and regs, along with an FAQ and the presenters were fighting back. Every other Branch has a SharePoint site. They’re not hard to create and all of us were asking each other (privately) WTF?? Such a joke! I hate purchasing with the fury of a thousand suns. Bleh.
Later, I had to attend a Branch Chief meeting to be introduced as the new Associate Enterprise Director. I signed on a few minutes early (if you’re not five minutes early, you’re late) and the branch chiefs were chatting. I know them all, and one of them was discussing the shitshow from that morning. I laughed and commented that the training was indeed a farce. She then commented on how she appreciated all the questions I asked and how I kept digging and probing. I laughed and said they should all know that I have no problem asking questions, especially when something is completely bonkers. They all laughed and said it’s true, but they like my questions because it promotes critical thinking and some of my questions have actually resulted in improvements.
I sometimes think I ask too many questions, and I’ve learned to let the petty stuff go, but if something impedes efficiency and there is no logical reason for it, I’m all over it. None of us have the time or bandwidth to deal with stupidity.
Yesterday, I pulled down my training plan!!
Three pages front and back of training that I have to get done; some in 30 days, some in 60, some in 90 days. I’m going to ask my boss if the training I already had taken for some of these subjects will count because there is no way in hell I’m going to get it all done AND work and not work credit time. I’m not complaining, but I want to know what the parameters are and I want to make sure I get the training done because it’s supposed to aid me in the performance of my duties.
Well, it’s time for another cup of coffee. I need it today!
