Mornin’ all!! In theory, the plumbers will be here to install a new water heater this morning, so perhaps I will be back in the 21st century by noontime. I’m sooo looking forward to a hot shower.
Oh yay! they just called to confirm the appointment.
Stay safe everyone! I shall report back when clean.
Good morning, everyone. We’re taking steps to get our kitchen painted, including the cabinets. The cabinets are that ubiquitous builder’s grade “oak” and are 22 years old. I’m planning on a pale soft gray for the walls and an off-white for the cabinets.
I found you can order paint color samples on 12" X 12" peel-and-stick sheets from an online company called “Sampilize”. These are terrific - you can move around the room and hold the sheets up against the wall in differently-lighted parts of the room and study the effects. I ordered the two colors I thought most likely and I’m glad I did. The gray is darker and cooler than I want, though the off-white (“Swiss Coffee”) is perfect. So I’ll select and order up another couple of gray samples slightly lighter and warmer in tone than the first one.
Morning all. Started raining about 5am (at least that’s when I heard it) and still is coming down now (about 9am). So errands may be delayed for a bit. Have plenty of jobs around the house that I need to attend to…I might even do some.
VanGo, hooray for Hot Water!!
Seanette, I’m not sure what is worse that FUBAR, but that place is approaching it. Good luck to you on finding another job.
Taters, if your questions are on point and cogent, bosses should be taking notice. Some folks ask a lot of questions, but they are…less than cogent…
FCM, at least you got out in public and saw an event…I need to check the schedule for the Trash Pandas (yes, that’s the name of our minor league team) and maybe take in a game.
red, hope the tooth pulling is still doing well. Soup sounds like a good plan.
Shoe, BBBoo, I look forward to meeting both of you one of these days.
OK, need to take on some nourishment and be about the day. All y’all take care.
OMG!!! Pardon my intrusion amongst the Mumpers, but Ralphie brings back distant memories of my youth (before I grew up, and came to the proper awareness about the divine role of the Dog, and the evil of the Cat, but that’s another story). Anyway, back in the very Olden Days I had somehow acquired a cat of that identical appearance that I named Orange Blossom. I had been under the misapprehension that this beast was a female, but on later inspection, it turned out to be a boy. So to save him any embarrassment, he was immediately renamed O.B. And Ralphie is the spitting image of that great and wondrous cat of my youth!
Afternoon, mumpers! It’s hot and sticky here today, my phone says 23C/73F which feels cooler than I feel at the moment! We don’t have A/C so I have windows open but no fans running yet as I find them quite distracting when I’m trying to concentrate.
The cats are flopped on the carpets, and 'im indoors is having a snooze. I am the only one awake and doing any work. Just been talking to my boss and we’ve all agreed to finish work a bit earlier today so that we can get a break from everything. This is our most stressful time of year and everyone’s up to their eyeballs in crap…plus we still haven’t got a clear idea of how some of our end-of-session stuff is going to work. The joys of higher education, yannow.
red hope you’re recovering from the tooth-pulling and all that soft food is helping out. Sometimes it’s just a relief to be rid of the offending thing!
Taters bosses should be pleased that you’re asking questions, especially if they are sensible ones. I’ve had people in my team before now who listened intently to every word they were told, and then asked for an explanation of why 1+1=2.
Not much exciting going on here. I was on campus yesterday, it was very peoply and the journey by train was not pleasant. Clearly a lot of people have had one or more vaccination and now consider themselves immortal and invincible, whereas I just want them to keep out of my way. Grocery shopping was accomplished and dinner yesterday was leftovers from the weekend. When it’s campus day, shopping night and my turn to cook, I like to use leftovers as it’s quicker, since I’m the driver and the shopping-unpacker as well.
Tonight, 'im indoors is making some version of curry. He’s not sure which one yet, whatever it is will be good simply because I don’t have to cook it. An hour’s exercise is in my future instead. Or maybe 1.5hrs, re-doing the Rockathon is very tempting because it’s got so many great songs in it. Then I’ll be impersonating a sweaty heap on the floor when it’s over.
My bosses, as well as other higher level folks have told me they actually like my questions because they bring up very important points, or, make TPTB rethink policy or instruction because a vital aspect or point was overlooked.
As I said, I pick my battles and some concerns are better brought up within the branch so our Division Director can send something formal.
I am older now and not everything needs to become a battle. Sometimes, the juice is not worth the squeeze.
Good luck with the painting, teela, and finding the right color. Those sheets sound crazy helpful. I once painted a dining room post-it green thinking it was a soft jade; sounds like those would’ve prevented that.
Overlygirl just made an appearance. She’s feeling better and better, just congestion remaining and super clogged ears, which in her mind means she is healed! To me, feeling pretty terrible, then progressively improving = infection of some sort. Also known as not allergies. As a non-allergy sufferer, I could be off the mark, but it wouldn’t kill her to stay home for a week to make sure.
Anywho, supposed to be around 90F today, which would’ve been a delightful pool day. However, 'tis not to be - work awaits.
Pffffft - no such thing as intrusion here. Also no such thing as decorum, manners, class, propriety, or fashion sense… well, except for Mr. Swampington - he just oozes all that stuff.
And, face it, does it really matter what one names one’s cat? They only respond as they see fit, anyway!
The playground was absolutely packed with kids and assorted keepers. And yet again, Roxy had an epic pull-ups failure - fortunately, I still had a spare in my car. Now I’ve got 4 spares… She ran around and climbed and rolled and generally seemed to have a good time. But she wasn’t all that thrilled when her Papa showed up - he had to take her home and I had to get to the grocery store.
Groceries have been procured and stowed, I’ve lunched, I cleaned the cat box, started up the ice maker, and shortly, I’ll change into my painting duds and get the ceiling done. No really - I mean it this time!!! Then I shall chill…
Yay, Nikki! This is especially meaningful for me to hear.
I have a new contact at one of our members. She mentioned she’s new to Seattle, so I googled her about an hour ago. There is one person on LinkedIn with her name and who works in the financial industry. The city under the name was Saugus. In the file from another member I’ve just opened, one of their accounts is in Acton. Hey, we used to live not too far from Saugus and Acton! California. The new contact’s presumed location, and the business in the file, are both located in Massachusetts.
And huzzah! I have hot water again. Tis truly a wonderful thing. I probably could have done the replacement myself, but I didn’t really want to mess around with the gas line. A couple hundred dollars is worth the piece of mind of my house not blowing up.
Howdy Y’all! Snowflake and Precious (I named the HVAC units) now have their special wires installed. The executive decision to swipe the General’s sup has been made. I am in da cave and happy.
red hope the pulled tooth is feelin’ better today.
nettie the sooner you get to leave Hades Annex the better.
shoe yay for Nikki!
Taters go you!
pup you are always welcome here. Once you post you are officially a Mumper. Membership is easy to come by, but once here, like Hotel California, you can never leave.
And the ceiling is DONE!!! I’ll put everything back together maybe later today, maybe tomorrow. For now, I’m going to do a quick surf, then change into non-painting clothes and knit for a while. FCD has a meeting at 4 for a new project (a UAV used to refuel F/A-18s in flight!) His part of the project is the shipboard installation of the station that controls the UAV. He’s very excited to be doing ship stuff again.
But since his meeting is that late and will likely run pretty long, I’ve declared that supper tonight will be foraging.
Then I need to get him to replace the couple of pieces of trim so I can finish the little bit of trim painting, then do the doors (those are easy) and declare the basement complete. Well, except for hanging some stuff on the walls. We’ve got a bunch of random pictures sitting in closets that we’d like to hang again. That’s easy.
I still have no AC. Waited all day yesterday for the HVAC tech to come diagnose. Didn’t come. Still hasn’t come as of 1pm my time on Day 2 of waiting. Called the office. Supposedly I’m at the top of the list. Not doing me much good. Not like I can go somewhere cool like the library. I have to wait here in the house of sweaty sticky exhausting hot. The poor kitties are laying around in their fur coats on any wooden surface they can find. Cooler than on the couch I guess. Most of their shed fur is sticking to me anyway.
I need swampy’s for lunch and his cee-mint pond. I bet the hilarity there would take my mind off the sweaty sticky sad state of affairs. I’d say mooom’s too but she’d put me to work. Too damn hot and icky to move, much less paint ceilings. I need somebody to set down a nummy lunch and a tall frosty glass of Coke Zero next to my glider. A squeeze of lime in the Coke Zero would be nice. We know swampy excels at sloth, I need me some pampering and sloth. Paper plates and leftovers are just fine. nellie and shoe. you come too. A spontaneous mini-mumpfest. Heck, at this point a Zoom mini-mump fest would be a welcome diversion.
