Wasn’t he the chap who visited that undersea trench? Once. For 25 minutes.
Never-happen scenario I’d like to see:
Terrell keeps on demanding to renegotiate. The Eagles still refuse. He sits out the whole season. The Eagles go on win the big one, and…
Numbnuts doesn’t get a ring because he didn’t play a down.
I love how the Eagles’ brass is putting its foot down on the matter – he can play under the terms of the goddamn contract he signed or not play at all. It’s about time that a spoiled athlete’s non-stop whining about how much money he’s making was met with a raging wall of indifference by his bosses.
Hot indeed. I wonder what it was that first attracted her to multi millionaire Phil?
As a 49ers fan, I will say once again, thank Og he’s gone.
They wear the same bra size?
Yeah, I have to say I’m quite happy with the way the Eagles have handled that fuckhead. Let his ass rot on the bench for the entire season!
I’m sure there are ample opportunities in the Arena Football League or any of the several Semi-Pro Leagues around the nation.
But, is Terrell Owens FINALLY a case where a guy is such a prima donna that no team will take him? Keyshawn came close, but I still guess that there were a few teams willing to take him on. Will the other teams in the league turn their collective noses up at him and say he isn’t worth it?
The one I’d like to see:
Terrell keeps on demanding to renegotiate. The Eagles still refuse. He sits out the whole season. The Eagles go 2-14, only managing to beat the Redskins and Giants once each.
Eagles cave and screw the Salary Cap pooch. They continue to lose.
Ahhhh…
What was the 49ers record again last year?

Side-rant: What is it about sports media that regrets the lapse of church-going in America and constantly wants to create sermons around this or that athlete. Either “this guy is a class act. His wife has cancer, and you know what he’s going through,” as if only millionaire quarterbacks go to work when a loved one is suffering, or “this guy is a child, he mooned a ref,” etc. When, exactly, when did “class” become a measurable stat in every sport and one that needs to be assessed and reported by any person in the media? When, exactly, did it become obsessively necessary to look for examples and non-examples of model citizenship? When, exactly, did every sports reporter and announcer get ordained as a minister and inited to sermonize to the audience at home? Give me a break. Shut up about it.

I’ll agree with you on this one. These guys are millionaire entertainers who are athletically talented. It needs to stop there.
They are NOT heroes. They are NOT rolemodels.
As Bill Maher says “They are NOT playing for the love of the game, they are playing for the money. If the NBA payed minimum wage Shaq would be a bouncer at a club somewhere.”
When a team losses a World Series or a Super Bowl I feel most sorry for the fans, not for the team. Fans invested their time and money supporting the team. Fans loyalty is timeless. Players loyalty is contract/money based. Players collect their ginormous checks and go on vacation for the off-season as millionaires (boo-hoo).
Touché. Still glad he’s gone though.
Change the word “Giants” to “Cowboys” and I’ll be right on board with ya.
Awww, hell with it…if it would mean a 2-14 Eagles’ season, I’d probably be fine with one Giants loss…
While I’m certainly looking forward to age and injuries eventually catching up to him and causing him to have less of an impact on the game, my suspicion is that he’ll then resort to piercings and colored hair to draw media attention. Carmen Electra likely won’t be far behind.
fiveyearlurker, I think he is about as close as it comes. With Keyshawn, there was always this idea that the right coach, a Parcells-type, could keep him in check. See Terry Glenn as well. T.O. has botched an opportunity with Steve Marriuci and Andy Reid - both of whom are not known as jerks to their players, and he has crossed the line in his complaints about teammates (Jeff Garcia’s sexuality, Donovan McNabb’s puking in the huddle). He’s another animal altogether.
You’d have to find an owner who enjoys a media circus and an equally deluded (or castrated) coach to bite. This is the era of the team-first Patriots, and that’s where every owner, GM, and coach is aiming for. Maybe ten years ago this schtick would have had some teams calling. Who’d do that now? Even the Raiders, Cardinals, and Dan Snyder are backing away from the train wreck, slowly.
As a Washington fan, I’m enjoying the circus, but somehow I doubt what he does one way or another will really affect the Eagles. As much as I hate the franchise, they have built a strong team, Reid’s system has been in place for many years, and more importantly, Owens’ behavior is so out there and bizarre, I doubt anyone in the locker room has respect or understands what his strategy is. I think he will have an okay year, being used as a decoy mostly, while the new Eagles receivers do quite well. The NFC East teams just haven’t improved enough, and they haven’t dropped enough, to make a whole hell of a lot of difference.
Drew Rosenhaus, who I used to think was quite a clever guy, is really mishandling this situation in unimaginably amateurish form. From his ridiculous appearances on PTI to having his ass handed to him by Stephen A. Smith and Leigh Steinberg, he just looks more and more like Bob Sugar from Jerry Maguire. I expected better…
It seems that TMQ agrees with the OP.
Hippy Hollow, I hope you are right about TO. I have a feeling some team might tihnk they can make him toe the line and that his bullshit is worth the production. I don’t know which team that would be, but someone will bite. I hope that does not happen though because he does not deserve to be a pro football player. There are probably several hundred current and ex college players who would kill to be making 1/4 of what he is making. And that crap about taking care of his family, reminds me of Latrell Sprewell.
As for Drew Rosenhaus (I didn’t see him on Stephen A’s show but I wish I had), I think he gambled and lost. If he had won the gamble he would have had player flocking to his door to get more money. As it stands I don’t know if he will be able to get any of his current crop a new contrract if this is how he operates. I also think it is ridiculous that we even know who he is, agents should be behind the scenes.
RickQ, had this happened a few years back maybe it would be worth it for some cellar-dwelling team, but this is the post-Sprewell, post-Artest, post-Kenny Rogers era. I think fans are really tired of the shenanigans of diva athletes. By extension, owners are probably tiring of it too. I mean, Dan Snyder hasn’t called the Eagles, and Jerry Jones is settling in to something resembling professional ownership… that’s as good an indication that the worm has turned. I so hope this is the close of the Deon Sanders inspired athlete-me-first-persona. It’s really tiresome.
Agreed on Rosenhaus’ gamble with T.O. His other clients have started to complain publicly about the amount of time he is spending with his prize spoiled millionaire. The Eagles aren’t going to blink first, and T.O. is either going to ride this season out on the pine or play for the same amount of money he signed for. Meanwhile, if you’re a hot-shot rookie looking for an agent, are you really looking for a guy who wants to appear on TV with you, hogging your screen time and sounding like a small-time wrestling promoter? Methinks the low-key, behind-the-scenes Leigh Steinberg is infinitely more appealing today.
What was Rosenhaus thinking? A low-key holdout, like Hines Ward’s, or Richard Seymour’s, would have been the best bet for getting more cash. Did he not know his own client is a child, and like a child, he was going to draw attention to himself when he really should have been quiet? After the Super Bowl, I honestly think the low-key approach, away from the media and behind closed doors might have persuaded the Eagles to open up the checkbook with some kind of incentive. Not only that, a good agent would have lined up about a dozen endorsement deals. T.O.'s comeback might have been one of the most impressive in recent memory, and I think he could have made MORE CASH through endorsement deals that would dwarf whatever he thinks he can get from the Eagles front office. How many companies would want a guy who was written off for the season, but comes back in the Super Bowl and almost wins the game pimping their product? Answer: All of 'em. Way to lose the PR game, Drew!
Now no-one will touch this guy with a ten-foot pole. Maybe And 1 or UnderArmour or someone like that. But trust me, Pepsi and Nike pay a lot more.
So cricetus, you’re pitting TO? That’s like pitting the devil! Pitting Hitler. It’s so much a WASTE of internet space… why the fuck did you even bother??? Why did you STEAL this bit of bandwidth???
