That’s what he told me this morning. He said he kept flipping back and forth from another show, and he didn’t even stick it out till the end. I looked on CNN’s site this morning, and the reporting was much like I expected. This isn’t what they taught us in Social Studies class…
Most of our chores are done. The last of the furniture that needs to be moved will be done before bed. We still need to eat supper so we need the dining room semi-set up. I’ll move my PC tower tonight and lay the screens face down on towels so the desk can be moved. Then first thing in the morning, I’ll take the cat food and water fountain down to the basement, along with Taz. Ziva will likely stay under the bed all day, as usual.
Still have to sweep the kitchen floor and run a mop over the nasty areas - under the fridge and the stove. This all better be worth it, dammit!
Ripple was bad today, tried to bite the vet, so no heartworm test and no checking his ears. He is going to the actual vet’s office tomorrow. They were nice enough to reschedule Adam, so they both can go at the same time. I’ll have to take Echo with me, too, just for the ride or she will flip out being left home. Fun, fun!
I’ll have to take off irk again tomorrow morning since the appointment is earlier. I can’t go in with them either. I’m surprised at Ripple.
Clothes are washing, the packages keep coming.
Did I mention I also have to clean up a ton of stuffing? Echo ripped open one of their toys. Little bits of white fluff everywhere, upstairs, downstairs, and even on the stairs.
My fault I guess for giving them something stuffed with fluff.
They are both lucky that I love them, because both of them have been plucking my nerves.
My Sinus Armageddon treatment is to take a 12-hour Claritin-D or Sudafed Sinus. As noted above, it must be actual pseudoephedrine from the pharmacy counter. Don’t waste your time, money, or misery on anything with “PE” in its name. No idea why, but the 24-hour versions don’t work as well for me.
Then, do a squirt of decongestant spray in each nostril. Wait a minute, repeat spray, but this time, it should be possible to huff it deeper. Wait a minute, repeat. By now, you should be able to breathe. Mix up a neti pot and rinse the decongestant spray and probably a vile collection of boogers away.
Howdy Y’all! We laid in provisions and then had N.O.L. I achieved nappage and OYKW is still doin’ so. Guess he wants to be a nappage over achiever today.
I meant to get back here last night, but my son called, and we had a nice, long chat. He pointed out I could probably get a Zoom consultation, so if I can’t beat this on my own, that’s what I’ll do.
In order to avoid a long post, I left out the backstory. I have a long history of sinus infections–got that from Mom. I ALSO have a diagnosed vaso-motor issue that means I have chronic post-nasal crud. ($900 of allergy tests: no allergies.) The latter exacerbates the former. So per the allergist, I use Flonase (no rebound effect) and saline spray daily. (If I used the neti bottle as often as I should, not sure I’d need the saline spray.) I’m also on daily antihistamines because they control my otherwise-unbearable dermagraphia.
What I Add during sinusitus:
•neti bottle: A big help. If you don’t have a neti bottle or neti pot, get you one. They work! (I should use them daily.)
• ibuprofen to reduce inflammation
• cold compresses (actually frozen gel mask) to do the same
I usually avoid suphedrine because the doc told me it counteracts what I need to do, which is thin the secretions. I do have a small stash of The Good Kind.
I definitely need to drink more liquids. Thanks for the reminder, Boo! And I forgot all about the hot compresses, so I’ll add those between the cold mask.
I have always objected to the election-year “debates” being called “debates.” Debates are an actual Thing with rules, formats, protocols. Election-year debates have never followed these rules and formats.
These events should be called “panel discussions,” or symposia, or presentations, or barroom brawls, or bare-knuckle boxing, or MMA, or anything but debates!
Wifey wanted to watch the ‘debate’, so we watched. Well, I sorta watched. After about an hour Wifey said “why don’t we take the boys (dogs, you pervs) for a walk?” So we did that. Got back just in time to hear Joe tell trump he was the worst person ever to sit in the white house, or something like that. If there was a highlight, that was prolly it.
I doubt she’ll want to watch the other debates, although we may watch Harris/Pence. That might be fun.
My sinus saga: (This may or may not be useful information. Read at your own risk.)
I’ve had sinus problems pretty much my whole life, which I dealt with by getting hooked on Neo-sinepherine. Said neo-sinepherine is prolly why my senses of smell and taste come and go to this day. Even the navy doctoors, and one VA hospital doctor couldn’t figure it out. Finally I went to a real, civilian, nose and throat doctor. He took one look up my nose and said “you have polyps.” He cut them out. A very uncomfortable procedure, let me tell you. Huzzah! I was fixed. For 2 years. Then another nose doctor cut them out again. After that he said “They’ll grow back. We can cut them out every 2 years or so, or do a more radical procedure where we go in through the roof of your mouth, OR you can squirt some stuff up your nose every day for the rest of your life. BTW neo-sinepherine is addictive. Don’t do that.” I chose the nasal spray. It was Vancanase to begin with. Nowadays it’s Fluticasone propianate. (Aller-Flo at Costco).
It keeps me breathing freely.
One more thing. We do not live in a democracy. In a democray, the electoral college wouldn’t be a thing. In fact, it would prolly be considered unconstitutional and be outlawed, as it should be.
I haven’t been keeping up. Sorry. So hugs, boos, wet fish, etc. to them as needs 'em.
It’s not that I don’t care, it’s that I’m senile.
Election “debates” are merely opportunities to attempt to score sound bites. There’s no debating. It’s just semi-organized spewing, altho I understand last night’s fiasco wasn’t even semi-organized. 'nuff said.
We ran some errands, and I wanted to give the digital converter boxes back to our internet company, but their doors are locked. I need to find out how to get rid of them because I’m paying $18+ per month for stuff I’m not using. Dammit.
Gonna try a shrimp-and-veggie stir fry for supper. Except I’ve never successfully done stir fry. I end up just cooking everything in one pot and dumping it over rice. I guess that works. Tonight it’ll be shrimp, onions, mushrooms, broccoli, and carrots over brown rice. I may dump some oyster sauce into the mix. We shall see…
I’ve been hooked on Neo Synepherine many, many times. Even worse is getting hooked on Neo Synepherine 12-HOUR nasal spray!
To get OFF nasal spray, you must spend at least one night gasping like a beached fish, while your nose and sinus tissues rebound with swelling to the point they feel like they protrude out onto your face.
Neo Synepherine used to come in varying strengths, from 1/4% for infants all the way to 1% for the hardcore addict. These days, it’s only available as drops, in the full 1% strength. If you put those drops in your nose, you’ll swear you are sniffing Drano.
My sinus remedy procedure is to dilute Neo Synepherine with almost a full bottle of saline nose spray. If you are not a nose spray junkie, that very gentle dilution is effective when used as I describe. The Sudafed and hot packs to your face do the heavy hitting in that procedure.
I use Flonase off and on. But it only works for me when used in conjunction with decongestant pills and saline nose spray. Flonase is very very drying, and after I use it a while, I get nosebleeds.
I’ve got one of those “vacuum” neti pots on the closet shelf. I need to get it out and see how it works for me.
Love stir fry!! Do you mind me butting in your kitchen? For stir fry I would cook the veggies first Set aside, quickly cook the shrimp and set aside. Scramble an egg in pan -optional, add the rice a little oil to help lubricate it and soy sauce for taste Then add the rest of ingredients mix well. You can marinate the shrimp first, gotta ask where’s the garlic and ginger
Veggies shrimp rice no matter how you mix it it’s great!
I thought about using my teriyaki marinade - it’s got the garlic and ginger as well as soy sauce and wine vinegar. The rice is steaming - its done-time determines when I start the veggies. Soon… soon…
I finished off the beef/chicken/shrimp fajatas today, in a low-carb tortilla. I had two fajita wraps last night and Mrs. L.A. had one, and I think I had two at the restaurant Friday. Not bad for $19! About half an hour after I ate, I went for a 3.7 mile walk – two laps around the beach. Both times around, I saw four Miatas parked in a row along the beach with eight people (presumably with the cars) in beach chairs enjoying the low tide.
Me assembling a rowing machine is like a moose assembling the International Space Station. I’m taking a break because my hooves hurt lupus).
I didn’t watch the “debate” last night because I can’t stand listening to one of the candidates, and when I read that that same candidate refused to prepare, I figured it’d be a sh*tshow. My daughter decided to brave it, but she only made it 20 minutes.
Sinuses are strange. They’re also hard to clean, which I can’t help thinking is a design flaw.
wordy, is your son good at record keeping? Screenshotting the assignments, etc and saving them to a desktop file can come in handy when she backdates or changes assignments.
sari, I think Nelson was about six months old when I banned fluff stuffed toys from the place. His favorites have been these:
Mooooom, if you don’t have a wok (and an electric one doesn’t count. It doesn’t get hot enough), a good steel skillet will work. Prep the vegetation and protein and have them on standby. Put a couple of tablespoons of a high smoke point oil (peanut or avocado work well), turn the burner on high and start with the aromatics. Keep stirring (hence the stir fry name) and add the vegetation with the slowest cooking first and the quick cooking stuff last. When the vegetables are crisp cooked, take them out and add more oil if needed. Once that is hot, add the protein and keep stirring. When that’s done, make a slurry with some liquid and cornstarch or arrowroot and slowly add it to the wok. When the sauce is cooked, add the protein and vegetation back in for a quick swim, then serve over rice or noodles. It usually takes less than 20 minutes to do. :takes chef’s toque off:
I thought EoM was on track and I should have had an easy day until about 1:30 when my boss emails me and tells me that the old bat had beau coup counts in her queue that needed to be wrapped up. The were of the variety that need verified first thing in the morning to be accurate at all, so I emailed her back and told her that I could help, but they would have to be submitted tomorrow and back dated. She agreed. Which means that all of the EoM reports will have to wait until Friday or Monday. I couldn’t have completed most of them anyway with the missing data from tOB’s counts.
I made it through about 20 minutes of the shitshow before the oompa loompa’s voice finally got the better of me and went to streaming something with better production values.
Came home, walked Nelson, visited a few minutes with a new neighbor (Nelson was barking at her and she just loves dogs), et supper and am fixing to do KP.
Ho. Lee. Shite. Cue the drum roll and heavenly chorus. I got the rowing machine put together, and it works! I always screw up this stuff–not putting myself down, just stating facts. My dad was a brilliant man, but he was awful at anything involving tools. Luckily, Mom knew her way around a tool box and loved mechanical tasks. I take after Dad, though not as smart–Harvard never wanted me. Where was I? Oh, yeah! 13 pages of instructions conquered! I like to think Mom is smiling down on me right now.
