I'm Up too Early so May as Well Start the MMP

My only remaining sibling quietly passed away last night. Trisha was 83 and had been in a memory care facility for the last year or so. A life long smoker, she had COPD and came down with Covid like many nursing home patients. She was able to beat the fever and the pneumonia but it was just too much for her heart.

It is strange and sad to be the only remaining member of my family.

I am so sorry to learn this. That must be hard… to be the one who is left. My condolences and warm hugs to you.

Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN ‘Tis 76 Amurrkin out and fair with a predicted high of 93 with a fair to middlin’ chance of rain/tstorms/apocalypse this afternoon and evenin’. We shall see. Got a text tellin’ me a couple of folks did a bunch of mowage over to the church house yestiddy, so no need to go today. Fine by me. The text said what needs finishin’ will be done tomorrow. We are supposed to have storms all day tomorrow. I have decided I shall graciously bow out of this round. So, no real big plans for the day. Tomorrow is stew makin’ day. I think sup shall be majik intartoobz pizza and sallit.

{{{Hippie}} so sorry for your loss! Your sister, you, and the rest of the family are in my prayers.

{{{Thel}}} hope you’re able to get some sleep soon.

{{{Butters}}} glad hub’s daughter is there to help out. Attempt to find some time for yourself while she’s there.

{{{Dots}}} sounds to me like you accomplished a lot and are workin’ on a plan for yourself. That’s always a good thing. Eat what you want when you want, as long as you remember to eat and keep up your strength.

Now I need more caffeine and to feed rumbly tummy, Then, onward into the day! Rah.

Happy Firday Y’all!

I’m guessing you’re out of warranty? Or as some sage said: If it’s not one thing, it’s another. Hang in there…

I am the firstborn of 5, so I doubt that I’ll be the last one left. My mom is the last of her immediate family, tho, and she was the oldest sib. Not to hijack… I remember how it felt when a couple of my cousins died - I can’t imagine how it will be for a sibling. Hugs to you.

I honestly can’t identify with forgetting to eat or not wanting to eat. Probably because I’m a stress/boredom eater, which led to the excess poundage. My SIL often forgets to eat and I just don’t know how that’s possible. But he also deals with depression, so I’m guessing there’s a connection?

On to happier things. I slept with Mel again and had a pretty decent night. FCD’s analysis (mechanical, not mental) ran most of the night and he got some pretty good results (he was out there before 4 checking on it) so all that’s left is to write up the final report. Then maybe he can take a deep breath or two for a couple of days.

We’ve got our first front-door-replacement estimate this morning around 10. I’m just hoping it’ll come in under $2K. We want to replace double doors with a single door and sidelights. plus a new storm door. We also need the patio door adjusted/repaired, and I want to replace the small, cheap solar tube in the kitchen with a better one. So I know the last 2 projects will definitely push it over $2K. Still, these are things that either need to be done or I want done, so they shall be done. Soon, I hope!.

And after that, I’m hoping to get Roxy down for a quick, early nap so we can go to their new house. I’d like to get all the kitchen cabinets washed inside, then put down shelf liners so they can begin to unbox their kitchen stuff. And I want to find some deodorizing carpet cleaner to use in their studio/man cave - it really stinks out there, and I’m sure the carpet is part of it. That’ll probably be tomorrow’s chore.

Meanwhile, Happy Firday!!

@LH75 so sorry about your sister. We‘ll all be thinking about you. Hoping you feel like you have a little bit of family here.

Boo

Blurf!!

Me three, down to beating myself up about it all.

ETA: oh, hippie I am so sorry.

I’m so sorry for your loss.

I don’t know your body, but when I start in on a “grapes and watermelon, everything else sounds disgusting” track, it means I’m dehydrated. For whatever reason, I don’t really experience thirst, I just start craving high-liquid foods. Consider deliberately trying to drink a lot of liquid and see if that improves your appetite.

(((((Hippie))))) I’m sorry for your loss, must be a strange feeling. I’m the youngest (and fittest!) so I’m expecting to outlive my sibling, I can’t imagine what it must feel like to be the last member of the family though.

Friday got off to a good start with an hour in the gym, then home to get logged in for work. It’s been a busy day, had a couple of meetings and a catch-up with my boss as she’s been off for a few days. Still got a couple more hours to put in and then I can call it quits for three days as it’s a public holiday on Monday.

In other exciting news, we had to call the fire brigade out earlier this afternoon. We’d shut the windows late in the morning as we could smell burning and thought one of the inconsiderate neighbours was having a bonfire. Later, there was thick smoke drifting outside the front of the house, so when we looked out of the back windows, there was a significant amount of black smoke and the distinct sounds of crackling flames. There’s an old disused factory unit just down the street, it’s small and has been empty for a couple of years - we thought the fire might be at the back of those premises or an out-of-control bonfire in the mews houses that back onto it. So the firemen were duly called, and shortly afterwards we heard the sirens as they arrived, then the sound of the pumps and pretty soon the fire was out. No idea where it actually was, but at least it’s dealt with now.

And that is quite enough excitement for a Friday!

{{Hippie}} {{Dots}} {{anyone else who wants one}}

I wouldn’t worry too much about eating healthy or sensibly Dots, eat what you like for a bit- I’d put getting some enjoyment out of things as a top priority at the moment, and let the nutrition wait. When I wound up basically bedridden for a month I lived on kiddy snacks and chocolate, because everything else was crap and that was all I wanted. It didn’t do any lasting damage.

Garden centre visited, with good timing- there’s a footpath going there from a nearby parking spot, so I got in a short walk rather than just park there- got back to the car just as the rain started. Didn’t buy any plants… just asked if they could order one in for me… It’s a terribly posh garden centre- owned by the Duke of Cornwall, aka Prince Charles, who apparently does get involved in running it when he’s around, so it’s always good for posh people watching -and stupidly expensive decor. But it does do unusual plants, and they’re not always crazy expensive.

Happy Firday!

It’s nice outside now, a partly cloudy 82 degrees.
The dogs are outside with the fence guys. Ripple wanted to come in with me, but then one of the tools started making a funny noise, so he decided to stay out there to keep an eye on things.

{{{Hippie}}} I have always thought it must be hard to be the last surviving.

I took the morning off irk. Too hard to concentrate on calls when the fence guys are irking.

{{{Dots}}} Eat what you want, anything is better than nothing.

Dots you can even look at your favorite flavor of ice cream (or preferred treat of choice) as a perfectly viable, healthy food.

Ice cream, for example, provides protein and calcium, in addition to helping your brain make the good neurotransmitters.

You’re also welcome to buy easy-peasy microwave snacks. Totally counts as a meal, if the other option is not eating one at all.

Morning all. Rain yesterday and more rain expected today and tonight as our present from the latest hurricane. Still, it is much better being 400 miles from the coast.

{{Hippy}}, I only have one brother who I see 2-3 times a year, so I know what it is to outlive most of the family. My deepest condolences to you.

Dot, make yourself a weekly menu of things you like/things easy to fix (not always the same) and stick to it–yeah, you can swap days now and then, but having it written down works for me. And maybe some Instant Breakfast stuff (I have the chocolate ones now–just add milk) or such that are easy and nutritious.

boo fae, glad you didn’t burn down. You’re probably right, some old pile of trash back there either caught fire or had it set. Keep an eye out, might be re-occurrences if it was set by people…

FCM, good luck on the door estimates. Bought my new back/front doors several years ago at a place called Wilson Lumber, can remember what I ended up paying but it wasn’t cheap.

{Thel}, I hope that this too, shall pass.

To everyone else, my hugs, felicitations, chortles and other appropriate (and perhaps inappropriate) noises. All y’all have a good Firday.

Oh, the COVID test finally came back–negative, which is good. Now as long as I stay that way…

I’m well on my way to packing up what I need for my cleaning adventure at daughter’s house. Roxy is napping, and when she wakes, we’ll head out to the new house. FCD is going to go with us too - he’s been working 7 hours already today and he wants a break.

A week from tomorrow, they’ll be pretty much all moved into their house. YAY!!

Dots I’m sorry it’s all so hard right now. Eat what you like and don’t worry about “should”. I get stupid hungry and have zero appetite. It is one of life’s enduring mysteries. I guess I manage something with my pills, to keep my stomach from bitching at me. Lately I’ve been drinking protein shakes, since food is meh. {{{hugs}}}

Thel (what is your nickname?) I got some super strong peppermint tea that I drink when my IBS hates me. It seems to help. What do you use?

Hippie my condolences. {{{hugs}}}

Does anyone know why the best place for my dogs to play is apparently on my lap/around my legs/in the middle of whatever I’m doing? I’ll kick them outside to play and then they stand by the door and stare at me.

I’ve off to have botox again today. Yesterday was a bad headache day, with a side of anxiety attacks, but I finally got some sleep.

Have a good Friday, everyone!

That is my nickname. I have some peppermint tea and I’ll go make some right now.

I wonder if I have food poisoning. I had diarrhea during the night, and now I have what feels like a back spasm on the left side at the height of my waist. No fever, BP is high, but not sky-high. I don’t have cramps anymore but just feel icky all over. I’m drinking water in case I’ve gotten dehydrated. Ate a few spoonfuls of plain yogurt a little while ago. No more intestinal overflow, thank goodness.

Waiting for zoning and planning to call me back.
The fence guy has a question for them and he can’t get through to them.
Something about the height of the fence, can’t be higher than 6 foot, but something about the ground being uneven and the fence topping out at 6’4" and are they measuring from the ground up or something else… which none of it makes sense to me.
So the fence guys went to lunch and will be back in an hour, and hopefully by then zoning and planning will have called me back. I hope the lady there is just at lunch and didn’t take the day off.
They had to cut through the concrete behind the shed to get one post in. I said we should have just moved the shed back and let the back of the shed be part of the fence. Joking of course, but it might have been easier. Now the last post, they have to dig through the maple tree roots. Guess that is why this is taking longer than I think it should.

Not as hot as expected today. We are supposed to get rain. I’d sit outside but the mosquitoes are horrible out there.

Easy dinner last night. I made four, thin, bone-on pork chops with Shake’n’Bake. (Hey, we like Shake’n’Bake pork chops! So sue me.) I made mashed potatoes with butter and cream, and some packet chicken gravy. The three potatoes were very small. Amazingly, there were no leftovers.

I made waffles for Mrs. L.A. this morning. I’m avoiding carbs (potatoes notwithstanding), so they’re all hers. She ate two, and there are seven ones left that she can eat later.

Finally, and if I’m doing this right, critter pictures!

I like to keep my cats neatly stacked (Phoenix on the top, Twister on the bottom):

They’re getting much better about sharing favorite spots and they were focused on a fly outside the door:

This was Twister’s first time on the mantel but she couldn’t quite make it to the bookcase. Right after I took this photo, Phoenix (on the top) shoved her to the floor:

I don’t think we’ve had any chicken pictures yet so here are my neighbor’s chickens, all named after queens and other famous ladies (Victoria, Cleopatra, Hatshepsut, Lady Diana, Ruth Bader Ginsberg and Eleanor Roostervelt):

Nobody warned me that the treatment for diverticulitis is likely more disagreeable than the condition itself. OMG those pills are nasty!
