Impending holidays and stuff in the MMP

Afternoon all. Dropped off letter, bought Pepsi (3 12-packs for $11), dropped off dry cleaning, visited storage site (more below), and bought 2 pairs of sweat pants. So taking a break before cleaning out the car. It’s 70F outside but still cool inside, the house retains heat well, but it also retains cold just as good. Will bump up the heater in a minute.

As for the storage place, it sits next to the soccer fields we played at on Saturday, and one of the boys on my team decided to see if he could shot-put a big rock over the fence. turned out he could and he busted a windshield on a car parked there. So went in today, they had no clue it had happened and will get back to me after contacting the owner. Car is a big old 1980’s wide-body, been sitting there for 30 years according to the guy at the storage place, but the owner is still making payments on it. I’ll take responsibility as I had been talking and sitting with the parents instead of monitoring 10-year old boys like I should have been doing. We’ll see what develops.

Sari, glad you and the deer avoided each other. Deer hits to the car are a pain.

Butters, glad to see you again about these parts. {{hugs}} back to you.

OK, need to find my afternoon snack. All y’all take care.

My brains are tired today. I have got to be better about going to sleep earlier. Also, my brain has now discovered things to chew upon at night, which is really obnoxious since I’ve never had insomnia before.

Anyway, sittin’ on the phone at work, waiting for a committee to peer review something I wrote. I’m so tired I’m not as nervous as usual. It’s grey and gross outside and I don’t wanna work, but I will.

Well, review went well.

While I was presenting, a friend texted me to tell me she has cancer. Fuck cancer right in the ear.

Sorry, guys. This is probably not the right place for swearing.

Congrats on the review.

I second your thoughts on cancer. Perfect reaction to it.

I don’t do boats because the ocean and other bodies of water are out to kill me. Most boats I’ve been on have sunk underneath me or tried to kill me in other ways, so I just watch in horror when people go boating. When we go to the coast, I keep an eagle eye out for sneaker waves because the fuckers are out to get me. But enjoy!

With all the trucking problems, I’m fretting about deliveries on turkeys this year. I like to roast a Mary’s free range (never frozen), and our local store carries them, but I can’t get a straight answer from them on this year’s supply. They’ve always been expensive, but I’m sure this year’s will be even more pricey. Ah, first-world problems, n’est-ce pas?

I grew up with a fair amount of beach time. I am always shocked by how much people don’t know about the ocean: don’t turn your back, don’t get too deep, rip tides, etc. The ocean ain’t a kiddie pool.

I ended up mulching (but not vacuuming) all the leaves in the yard. Next time, I’ll attach the sucker and clean up the detritus. Really.

While FCD napped, I watched Best Little Whorehouse, and it struck me - one of the best singers in that movie never sang. Jim Nabors played Deputy Fred and he didn’t have any songs. Burt Reynolds isn’t much of a singer, but he just had 1 duet with Dolly. Charles Durning could carry a tune, but no great shakes as a singer. And Dom DeLuise was more comic relief, so his singing was adequate. Not that any of that matters - it’s a fun little movie.

Supper was sketty. The dishwasher is sloshing. Chillage is now underway. I shall soon assume the knittage position.

Congrats on the boat Mooooooom.

I’m inclined to agree with wordy about the cat in the hub. Too many moving parts.

Glad you’re feeling better BooFae!

Irked, came home, walked Nelson and et. Fixing to do KP before chilling in the studio.

Stay safe and healthy y’all!

Well, damn. One of my former students just died of COVID. He was 34. He was a good, hard-working kid. His mom was a para, a kindly, friendly sort who often told me how much she enjoyed my classes. I feel so bad for her.

In other COVID news, my friend who’s a conservative anti-vaxxer and who was hospitalized with COVID says that a month after her discharge, she’s still on oxygen and is tremendously fatigued.

Every time it stops raining, I start getting ready for the gym. Then we get a downpour. At least we’re not getting blown to Oz, like flyboy and others.

Moooom, congrats on the boat.

We’re pretty stupid about the Great Lakes, too. Michigan has dangerous waves (My brother very nearly drowned while bodysurfing two years ago.) and riptides, one of which nearly got me when I was 20. (Luckily I decided to swim at an angle, even though I was too dumb to know that’s what you’re supposed to do.)

If only Blueberry were as smart as this cat:

I’m sorry about your student nellie. The cat story was hilarious!

hey the AV has some ok mechanics too lol

you’d think they’d let it stay simply because of rodents

That’s what instacart’s for lol

Had a maybe 15-minute cloudburst last night but it looks like it wansta rain to beat hell … it’s just waiting for me to get offa my lazy ass and haul out the Xmas crap for inventory then well get the flood of ages …

which i have a gogol less than zero desire to do so … but it will happen eventually cause she who must be mostly obeyed has said we shall make it so

have you ever brought her back to landscatter ? ? right now it’s gusting a nice 24 but might get up to 50 mph an hour …

MY condolences to everyone dealing with suckage maybe this will cheer people up

Howdy Y’all! Da cave got it’s monthly debuggin’, laundry got laundered and put away, sup got cooked and et. Thus it was today. Hope everyone has had a good day.

Finally gave into the urge and made myself a chili size for dinner. Was delicious. Now to resist the hypno-stares of the cats as they try to psych me into giving them whipped cream. I shall resist! At least until I finish this margarita.

WTF is a “chili size” and how big was that margarita, anyway?

The Chili Size

Not big enough, so I had two!

But why is it called “Chili Size”? It seems like calling a serving “stew size.” Obviously, I’m missing something, probably something obvious.

From silenius’s link: The ‘chili-size’ ladle was used when Ptomaine Tommy’s customers wanted a bowl of chili. The smaller, ‘amburger-size’ ladle was used to put chili on burgers. Tommy came up with the idea of an open-faced burger with a chili-size ladel of chili, plus cheese and chopped onions, on top. That open-faced sandwich became known as a ‘chili size’.

And that’s what they were called when I was growing up. I craved them when I moved up here, but no one knew what they were. Turns out, up here they’re called ‘chili burgers’ – which is an entirely different thing where I come from (a closed burger with a ‘hamburger-size’ ladle of chili in it).

That’s wrong. The half-buns are upside-down, and not covered with chili.

Up, caffeinated, and sheveled. Off to heave .

Not really a problem. Except for Sundays, everything is moved in and out, with no warehousing and they clean up after every sort. Besides, there’s a Super Wally World and a bunch of restaurants on the other side of the railroad tracks. Plenty of food without the shrieking(machine sand supervisors)

Wordy, that is the olny reasonable response to cancer.

My internal clock doesn’t want to let go of daylight saving time… or standard time… whatever it was that we were on last week. I keep waking between what is now 4-4:30, which means by 8 in the evening, I’m starting to fall asleep in my recliner. It’s annoying.

Today’s big chore is washing 2 bags of afghans that I’m going to donate to a local organization that helps families in need. Some of these afghans have been sitting in the bag for 2 years - they need to be freshened. I’m hoping to drop them off tomorrow. And I have to pick up Roxy today - her mama has a parent conference after school.

Today is her last day of teaching till January. Tomorrow, the kids are marching in the Veterans Day parade, then early dismissal. My daughter will spend tomorrow finalizing the lesson plans for her subs. School is closed on Friday. It’s almost Toby Time! :star_struck:

I may cut up the branches, etc, that I gathered yesterday and get them stacked and covered before the rain moves in. It won’t take long… I hope. Full day ahead, I think.

Happy Wednesday!!

Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN ‘Tis 44 Amurrkin out and clear with a predicted high of 80 and N.O.S. Today we shall procure provisions and I have the usual mid-week church janitor JW duties to attend to. Plus also, twuck and I shall assist in the movin’ of a bed to the new apartment of a lady who has started attendin’ church. She is blind and uses a wheelchair and has been livin’ in a not too savory pay by the week motel for a while, so glad to help her get into some decent digs. Sup shall be leftovers from yestiddy. This all sounds like enough to keep me outta trouble for the day, but ya never know!

Now I need more caffeine and to feed rumbly tummy. Then, alas, alack, woe, and bother of all bothers, I suppose I must purtify and don appropriate bein’ about the public attire. Life is so difficult!

Happy Hump Day Y’all!
