In Honor of Labor Day, the FAQ MMP

yawn good morn-OW!

That’s a hell of a wake-up. Anyone else have a near-death experience over the weekend?

Ah, Monday. I’m am ever so glad I don’t have to work today. I hope to be able spend the day sitting around the house, preferably naked, recuperating from yesterday’s misadventure.

On a positive note, I found a coffee pot! Well, more precisely, a coffee maker. It’s a basket thing you set on top of the coffee mug (I prefer a beer mug), put a filter and your coffee grounds in it, and pour in hot water from a kettle. Not as easy as an electric drip machine, but for $2 at Safeway, I can’t complain.

In other Lancia news, my old suburban is dead – permanent death confirmed be a mechanic. Although, a bright spot in this story: the old suburban may be worth quite a bit of money. It’s a fairly rare body-interior setup, and the running gear is in demand. So I may be able to make a few bucks off it after all.

Of course, now I need to a) secure financing for a new vehicle, then b) find a new vehicle. I tried to talk my wife into buying – can you guess? – a Lancia! I can just picture myself cruising down the freeway in a Zagato, the entire world green with envy as I whiz by in my pinnacle of Italian perfection.

My wife wants a minivan :(. I tried and tried and tried to talk her into something cool. Something sporty. Something that can carry all of us but doesn’t bring shame to the family. No go. Minivan or bust. Jeremy and Richard will be disappointed.

Although, there is a nuisance factor in doing a full engine rebuild and wiring replacement every time I want to leave the house. Maybe a Lancia isn’t the best idea for a daily driver.

Oh! And, I got the check in the mail to pay for this fall’s college classes, and with enough extra to put a dent in my cost for the books. Always a good sight to see that envelope in the mail.

I’ll be back later. Need another dose of caffeine from the faux coffee machine.

Oh that’s right, it’s Monday. Heh.

Funny but a couple weeks ago, I’d have said “oh that’s right it’s Monday” because every day was the same to my unemployed keester. Now I say it because I spent 4-5 hours working each of the last two days and I’m back to working 93 hours a day so Monday means nothing to me.

CatDude for semi obvious reasons. Prior to changing my name I was Bus Dude as my name back then was Mr Bus Guy.

Originality = the MMP.

= Echod

I never knew that.

So how did janis_and_c0 become Pearl?

Sorry guys but Labor Day is May 1st; for some reason the country whose bloody May 1st is commemorated by the date is the one which celebrates it in a different day.

Peeps are back to work after vacation, here. Madriz is empty of young pilgrims and full of workers with sand under their eyelids, but not empty of the colorful small backpacks the pilgrims and volunteers wore: those will last years.

Spent all day in a meeting: more of the same tomorrow and the day after. We’ve already decided that the stuff being demo’d for us is not going to work here, so now we’re in “ok, dude, just teach us all you can” mode.

Janis Joplin - her last album was Pearl.

mr ems is bored so is mowing and edging the front yard, he has changed the cat litter, he is going to hang the rest of the pictures and also build the shelf unit thingy that I got for the bathroom all whilst I sit on the couch and supervise. He has said he doesn’t want my help and for me to relax and enjoy my day off as I have a crazy couple of weeks ahead  Love that man!

… and now with more gut and less hair!

Further explanation: BBBobbio came about because I told the story of how I got my rescue squad nickname of Black Belt.

Old business: Lieu, did you ever find my salsa recipe, or should I repost?

Nava: my opinion is that the inventors of U. S. Labor Day could not abide Americans celebrating with those godless Communists… I live near the People’s Republic of Berzerkeley, so I see posters for International Worker’s Day every year.

How sweet, FCM! I feel more at home already

/me sends tasty chocolates to FCM, cold microbrews of their choice to swampy, catdude, and bobbio, a note to the squid to ask if an introduction to my friend Cthulhu in Lingerie would be welcome… and hides the goat from her pit-roasting friends.:stuck_out_tongue:

Screw it, here it is:

VunderBob’s Kickass Hurricane Force Tomato Salsa

12 tomatoes, bigger than a baseball
6 jalapeno peppers
12 large garlic cloves
1/4 cup chopped cilantro
2 medium onions
2 tsp salt
1/4 cup vinegar
2 T lime juice

Core the tomatoes, cut the stems from the peppers and halve them, and peel the garlic cloves. If you don’t want the salsa to be real hot, now is the time to remove the inner membrane and seed from the pepper halves. Place all on a cooking sheet, and spray everything lightly with the cooking spray. Place sheet in the oven set to broil, and let go for 10-12 minutes, until the skin on the tomatoes chars and starts to peel. Keep an eye on the garlic, because it may burn first.

Peel the tomatoes, and chop them up the way you prefer. I’m lazy so I used a food processor, and I drained the liquid out of the chopped tomatoes to leave pulp only. Chop the peppers, garlic, onion, and cilantro, and add to tomatoes. Add salt and cumin, and adjust for taste. Add the vinegar, too. If you’re going to serve this fresh, stop here. Refrigerate about 2 hours before serving.

I canned mine via water bath. To do this, double the batch above, and prepare as directed, Place salsa in sterilized pint jars, add lids, and immerse completely in boiling water. Boil for 15 minutes, then remove. Let the jars cool, and the lids should indent. If the lid does not seal, refrigerate that jar immediately. The double batch yielded 6 pints.

Why is it Hurricane Force? I made this the morning of Hurricane Irene.

ETA: GT, if you post that, the difference between this and the old one is added lime juice, and dropped cumin.

Back - we ran a few errands. I was trying to find the first MMP - I know I once did an anniversary MMP, but due to some lost content and a lousy memory, I can’t recall either event. For some reason, I want to put the first official MMP in November, but Rue’s b-day is in November, so I could be cornfussled.

First record I can find of the use of the term Mumper is here.

We got 2 yellow clownfish while out. They’ll be going into the tank in a few minutes, once they’re properly acclimated. The guy at the local critter store recommended we start with a couple of clowns, so there we go.

First load of laundry is folded. Second needs to come out of the dryer to be folded. Then I attack the garage. ugh.

Added this version of salsa as a new post and cross-referenced with original.

Which leads us to another important Mumper fact: we’ve posted so many recipes that, McUne, whose full name is Most Creative User Name Ever started us a blog. She got too busy to keep it up and handed the reins over to me a ways back. I’ve been cleaning up my bookmarks and found some recipe links from before the blog and am going to add those recipes sometime soon. I keep a link to it and other important Mumper info in my signature, which I hardly ever click on. If you need to get to it, you can go to my profile to find it.

Went to the Arts Festival and saw lots of stuff that I wanted. Bought a couple of photographs from an artist whose work I’ve admired for a while. Also ran into a non-Mumping Doper who had a booth there with some very nice stuff. Ran into a lot of people, actually. Person standing behind me in line was a neighbor who sometimes rides the same bus. Local Best Friend was there with her little girl, so we hung around together for a while. Ran into a friend of a friend that I’ve met at enough social events that we actually remember each other’s names. She was carrying something unwieldy and looked like she was going to lose her balance. I stopped to help her and realized that I actually knew her. Saw a few other people from afar, but was too lazy to actually run after them to say hi.

Now I’m finishing up laundry and cleaning up my room and thinking about artsy things I could do with things I already own.

Off to spiff things up.

Hugs.

GT

Good morn… I mean afternoon. I’m half dead today after a very busy weekend. My long lost brother and his wife (of 16 years) came to visit. We wanted to show them everything, but, we all got too tired to see it all.
We went to the Pike place market, the troll, the space needle, fisherman’s terminal, the water front and the zoo. I hope they had a good time.

It is not necessary to have a shower head to take a shower.

It’s not necessary to have a shower to take a shower, if you have a hose…

The garage is swept, sorta, and some tidying has begun. It’s so muggy out there, I just didn’t feel like messing with it. At least we can park both cars with plenty of space around them. Laundry is all folded, but not put away yet. The clownfishare hanging in the front of the tank - they don’t seem interested in exploring.

Sketties for supper. Class at 10 tomorrow, so I need to leave by 9. Still haven’t gotten my tools together - shame on me!

At least one mumper, gotti, refers to his squeeze as DH. Just sayin’.

Surprise I am indeed proud of your tp post. Sniff I get so emotional when folks understand the importance of a good supply of tp. Sniff

I always figured that everybody kinda knew that OYKW and ACBG are the same person. I have a couple of acronyms I use for friends, namely JDD (JoeDawg’s Daddy) and MOG (Mother of The Groom). Older Mumpers will remember when I was nanny to JoeDawg the che-hoo-ah-hoo-ah (may he rest in peace). MOG came about when her son was gettin’ married and I’d mention her in a post. Oh and I also use YP (Young Priest) when referrin’ to my Priest because he is a mere child of thirty-three.

What’s fun is when somebody uses those kind of acronyms and people go “Oh, yeah, I know who/what that is.” Then again everybody understands the importance of keepin’ up with the minutiae of my life. Right?

Oh, the big news of the day from swampland. We did not switch over to Verizon, at least not yet. There was a question of a fee of $35.00 per line to switch over which I thought kinda excessive. So, OYKW is gonna check with corporate over the idea of waivin’ the fees. If not, we’ll just stay where we are and upgrade our phones.

Yeah, I know how to celebrate a holiday, do I not!

I have phone and internet. Then I don’t have phone and internet. I have phone and internet. Then I don’t have phone and internet. Lather, Rinse, Repeat. Over, and over and over and over and over and over. Tomorrow it’s byebye Mediacom and rehello to ATT. I’ll take reliable over cheaper.

My smoked <snerk> butt <snerk> gets a B-, whilst the Beer Butt Chikkin gets an A. I wound up freezing the butt and one chikkie for **N. O. L.**s at a future date. I never did get sloshed drinking the beer down to the proper levels, so no ODP (birth of a new acronym!) from me.

Bad part of the day: I dumped some burning charcoal onto the wooden deck, and in the process of pulling the hose around to play fahrman, I turned my ankle on the edge of the concrete path. It’s mildly sprained, and hurts just enough to really piss me off, but not enough to seek medical attention.

Time to knit. Good evening, one and all!

Spoken like a true pre-hospital provider. Go get your ankle x-rayed.

Look, I’m here.

Now I want Dr. Pepper and salsa, thanks, you guys and also, stupid pregnancy food-nuts-ness.
We are all alive, including Gnat, although I think all three-year-olds should spend that year of their lives in the salt mines. Just got back from my inlaws All-White House Full of Breakables in Niagara. We had a good time, in spite of needing to be three inches behind TomKitten all the time.

You guys. Since I’ve found out we’re having twins, I’ve had four different relatives volunteer to come and help, for weeks at a time, and one of them is going to fly in from Vancouver. To Toronto. This is awesome.

Or it will be when I’ve stopped throwing up all the time.
