I got a pair of ear buds that I really like. Rather than being hard and uncomfortable, the part that goes into the ear is soft and flexible rubber. The rubber part has three different sizes, so that you can use the one that fits you best. (Similar to this)

I don’t measure the turmeric in my hands, Muppet, but I either dip a finger into the sauce to taste it (What? It was just my husband and me for dinner last night and it’s not like we haven’t shared germs already! I wouldn’t do that if there were company coming!) or I use my hands to wash off some of the implements that got turmeric on them. And then it gets transferred to my hands and I have yellow fingers for the next 12 hours or so. It makes such a lovely fluorescent color on the plates though! What could be better than fluorescent yellow food??
It’s pouring again outside. WTF. If I wanted to live somewhere where it poured rain every day, I’d have moved to the West Coast. 
I did think about bringing an MP3 player and earbuds, but I’m concerned that it might make me seem antisocial since I face away from the entrance to my pod and already have trouble with people sneaking up on me. Maybe I’ll try it for a day or two and see how it goes.

Quick drive-by. Crazy insane work days here this past few, and now the heavens have opened up and are currently carpet bombing the province with vats of rain and enough pea-sized hailstones to keep fish fresh.
Gonna go back and watch the carnage.
So sad about SpaceDawg. Sadder too because I know I’ll be facing something similar before too long. Even SIL has noticed the Bernie isn’t quite herself. They work their way into your heart, and then they leave too soon…
But, some good news - **FCD ** got the job!! The written offer should arrive tomorrow or Monday, at which point he’ll give his notice at NASA. So he and I will go to work together - yay! And we’ve decided we’re going to go in a little later, and have breakfast together at home before leaving. That means not only will we save a lot of $$$ because he’s no longer driving over 100 miles a day, we’ll also save on breakfast-on-the-run! Plus there’s all that quality time together. We are both very happy.
I’m waiting for him to come home - I’m going to suggest we go out to eat to celebrate, because I don’t feel like cooking. But mostly to celebrate. 
I remember **Bumba ** - I hope he comes back when the board goes free - I miss him. I don’t got to Skip’s board too much because too many threads turn into the same silliness, and it’s not clever, just silly. I can only take so much, so I peek in occasionally to see if anything interesting is going on, then I move on.

Well… I could have worked from home as normal as The Man is trapped in Sacramento for reasons related to the California Budget Calamity. So instead, we talk on phone while he plays hurry up and wait for the legislators to do whatever it is…
He now understands the whole “the governor/mayor/etc. will just mail a certificate of congratulations” bit, and that we’re inviting someone from a local TV station as a person, and not as a TV personality with camera crew.
Some other issues have been smoothed over because another group is chartering the main theater at the other end of the building for a party, so the lights will already be on, and there will already be building security for these people. As the other group is a corporate event, they’ll be picking up the bulk of those associated costs.
I think all we need to sort out now is how much they’ll charge for drinks. Fotunately, we’re friends with the guy who owns the “portable” license that the fair serves alcohol under. 
I’ll be over in the corner now, doing that bb-bb-bb-bb-bb-bb thing with a finger betwen my lips… (What is that called, anyway?)
Howdy Y’all! Been a busy day here. I went to work early this mornin’ and took care of a buncha stuff. So much in fact, that I made an executive decision to take tomorrow off. YAY!!! With pay even. YAY!!!

In good news, Complicated Roommate got a job! He’s going to be a vet tech starting tomorrow. If he gets an employee discount, we’re switching all the pets to the place where he works. PeterCat needs his teeth cleaned, ZeldaDog’s due for her shots, and StormyDog does not need to be a man much longer.

**FCD ** just called - he’s just leaving. He should have been home by now. Stoopit job. Glad it’s almost history. He’s taking off tomorrow and Monday to burn the last of his leave and to wait for the offer letter. And to futz in the basement.
But he’s not feeling too spiffy, so he may not want to go out to eat. We shall see. Meanwhile, the critters are fed, it’s raining, and I’ve got the house to myself. So there’s that.

I’ve managed to shower and get a load of laundry going. Hubby is outside washing his “baby”. We can’t have bug guts all over it now, can we?
So, Skip got back to me, but I still can’t get in to his site. It’s says there’s no user by that name. Whatever, I’ll fuss with it later. I should have just registered with my Straightdope name.
I should do something productive.
No sleep last night–was too anxious I would sleep through the alarm. Am exhausted. Had my second horrible day at work-6 solid hours on my feet until it slowed down. We are short one nurse this week and it shows. Gah. More of the insanity again tomorrow, then off --bliss.
Called my MIL and said I was puzzled as to why TH and I were being invited to our own daughter’s going away party. (this is what pissed me off yesterday–she has never recognized my role in my children’s lives. I wouldn’t have minded so much if she had called and said, let’s plan something for Daughter’s going away. But no! That would be ceding control to someone other than Her.) :rolleyes: As it is, #1 son cannot attend. NO ONE wants this to happen except for MIL, but the cousins have already said yes to coming down. I suppose one could say I ought to be grateful she didn’t invite a houseful into my house–the “party” is at MIL’s. The quotation marks are there for a reason.
I need sleep.
